Re: St Lawrence Hockey

No HD tonight?

Also nothing listed for tomorrow's men soccer

I am at loggerheads!

I watched on HD, but wish I didn't. Want to hear from someone that was at the game, but I thought we looked dreadful. Did we not show up? That is the perfect explanation of why I don't want to be ranked. The second we think we are so good we don't have to work, we get beat.

That was a big game and, well, ouch.

I'll say this, Vaughner coached them well tonight. They took away our forecheck, kept us from getting a sustained forecheck, and took the puck away from us a ton in the neutral zone. Love going into a game with Cornell that is almost a must win....NOT.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well that was one to burst everyone's bubble.
I only watched on the Internet feed..... but that sure didn't look like the team I saw the last two weekends. I'd be curious for those at the game to post their opinions/thoughts, but, watching without sound (don't know why I couldn't get the announcer broadcast but I had crowd noise?) it sure looked like we weren't very hungry tonight. Very sloppy play led to a couple of Colgate's goals.

Also it could be where the camera and arena microphones were placed but I sure was hearing more Colgate cheering and fans than SLU fans.

I guess with young teams you never know what you are going to get, but, I would label tonight as our first "bad loss" of the season. In the other games I have watched on the Internet or the three in person.....I always felt we put out the superior or at least equal effort. Didn't feel that way tonight and that is disappointing.

Who was there that has a report??? Tayt? Muskieman? Tupper Lake crew? Saints1?

I was there and you are dead on, we were terrible tonight!!! We were slower than I have seen us all season long and we had way too many lapses in the defensive zone, also couldn't manage to stay on our feet and connect any manageable pass as well. I have seen them a couple times this year in person and every game that I haven't been able to make I have caught online and this was by far the worst effort of the season. Going to have to be a BIG turnaround tomorrow night or we are in big trouble!!!

Also, I have always noticed this trend with the crowd noise on the live feed, the camera/microphone is directly above the visiting fans. The crowd tonight was packed all around and definitely favored the Saints as it always does in Appleton ... But yes I have also noticed this odd little nuance with the audio on the live feed, kinda strange ...

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

This was the 4th game I've seen the Saints in person this year and 7th overall. I can easily say this is the worse amount of energy we have had all year. Give Colgate credit, they showed up to play.

I think my girlfriend said it best when she leaned over to me halfway through the 3rd period and said it looked like the Saints ate a bunch of spaghetti before the game.

That is disappointing. The one thing I didn't think we had to worry about with this group is "energy". Every time I've seen them they have had jump, hustle and looked for large stretches of the game to outwork their opponents and skate fast and hard.
Going to be a tough one tomorrow night. Cornell looks to have been completely shut down on offense by Clarkson so they will be hungry. Don't want to see a zero points weekend, particularly at home!!!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I watched the first 2 periods, then had to catch some sleep for my night shift (12a-6a eastern time). Going to echo the thoughts here, just an all-around poor effort. How much of that is due to Colgate shutting us down, and how much of that is attributed to us directly, I won't get into.

The video camera and mic are definitely right over/just to the left of the visitor section, so I'm not particularly surprised it picks up that noise the most.

Baker's goal was one of the sparse highlights, reminded me a lot of his goal against Northeastern I believe it was.

Unfortunate result to say the least, but hopefully a teachable moment to the new guys that may have felt this was the easier of the 2 games this weekend. The RPI fans generally felt that Colgate gave them the tougher game last weekend, despite the score discrepancies. Hope the boys come out with a fire under their behinds tomorrow night and take it to SUNY Ithaca ;)

If they do the game should be similar to what Clarkson did to Cornell. They will control 5 on 5 play and limit the number of shots Cornell had (only 11 shots on goal for the entire game). Cornell could not handle Clarkson's speed and grit. Stay out of the box however. Their power play is the best part of their game (they got 2 pp goals in 4 tries).

You the fans overlooked Gate a little for sure. Our six losses are to teams ranked in the top fourteen in RPI in the nation.(five in the top ten) We played neck and neck with St Cloud and Ferris St, clobbered by Q-Pac who is the best team I've seen this year, including St Cloud St. Last weekend we played well beating Union and outplaying RPI in one of the weirdest games I have ever seen, losing 6-2.

Colgate is very very fast, as quick as anyone I've seen this year, I think maybe we snuck up on you a little. Our soph class has scored something like %80 of our total points, Spink, Baun and Spink are a great line. Don't take it so hard, it was "not" a bad loss. We have played the THIRTEENTH hardest schedule, even with a 5-6 record we are twenty fifth in the RPI, go figure. You have a very good team and I'll bet you school Cornell tonight. I will reiterate that Colgate is a lot better than most people think, so it wasn't necessarily a bad loss at all. Good luck tonight and hammer those big Red pylons.

The video feed was good but it was strange watching a game with no audio, is this normal. It did sound like Gate fans outnumbered SLU fans but the placement of the microphones probably accounted for that.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

“It’s only one loss, but I feel this is the only loss that we deserved,” Carvel said. “Tonight, I thought Colgate deserved to win, they just played quicker and harder and that’s how they scored their goals.”

“This was definitely the first game of the season where I believe we were really out worked and we really deserved to not win that game,” Baker said. “It’s really a lesson to come home after two weeks and put on a performance like that. It’s disappointing.” http://watertowndailytimes.com/article/20131116/SPORTS03/711169849

I have faith that Carvey and the boys will use this as a good teachable moment.

Definitely was the placement of the cameras. There was only maybe 50-100 Colgate fans directly underneath the camera/microphone compared to the 2,500 or so fans in the stands ... It is what it is

Our new TV set up has been mostly good......not sure why we didn't have the announcer feed. That is the second time this year that has happened. I'm guessing it was some technical snafu....

Thanks for setting us straight on how good your team might be. Takes a little of the sting out but still....getting outworked at home was not a good sign for us.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I'm an SLU fan, except when they play 'Gate. Hope you take SUNY-Ithaca to the woodshed tonight. I'm sure they will be loaded for bear after last night. Good luck the rest of the season....or until you visit Hamilton :)

The video cameras with the microphones are in the press box directly above the visitors bench. Long ago, it is also where the SLU bench was and all the dignitaries sat like the president of the university. It should be much worse if the Cornell band is there tonight or when we play Clarkson.

I am not sure if SLU took them lightly or what went wrong. All I know is that is not even the team that resembles the team I saw last week and the week before. I do credit Colgate, they did exactly what they had to to maintain the lead and to frustrate us on the PP. Not to take it away from Colgate, but we played like crap in my assessment. I think that is the performance I had in mind when I said I don't want to be ranked. I also don't know why Smolcynski didn't play....personally, I didn't like the lines last night. I also think there was additional complacency coming home. This team is only going to be successful if they work their butts off for 60 minutes.

Anyway. That was ugly. Tonight better not be.

I don't know details, but Smolcynski posted on twitter that the team manager was a trooper for waiting at the ER with him a few days ago. Could be illness, could be a "lower-body injury", no clue.

Wasn't even thinking about microphone placement with the Cornell band tonight. Ugh. Please let there be a radio overlay for audio.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

At the game now ... Hopefully we can turn it around tonight and get a big "W" in the win column, we need this one!!! I'll be cheering loud and proud from Section P, same seat as always ... Let's Go Saints!!!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well, if it was even remotely possible we look even worse than last night ... Some key issues we have right now are puck control, getting shots on net, discipline and last but certainly not least GOALTENDING!!!!!! 4-1 Cornell end of the 1st

A little better here in the second but another penalty here to kill.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Stink, stank, stunk ... That about sums up this weekend. We looked awful both nights and it actually got even worse as the weekend progressed. I could sit here and try to come up with something positive to say, but why bother. We need to get back to basics ... In a hurry!
