Re: St Lawrence Hockey

While there is certainly no such thing as a bad win, I'm hesitant to read too much into beating the Sioux, even in their own barn. This doesn't appear to be the type of UND team we are accustomed to seeing, at this point. They have shown they are capable of beating very high quality teams (@ Miami early this season, off the top of my head), but they haven't really proven to be consistent.

Regardless, a very nice road win in a tough arena. PP was en fuego, penalty kill was forced to do a very good job tonight as well. Hopefully they come out blazing again tomorrow night and finish the weekend off with another victory.

Yup........with a 4-7-2 record it is not the team of years past. Still....on the road in their barn is a job well done. In the SLU write up Wally referred to a newspaper article about Greg Carey.....below is a link to the article for those inclined to want to read it.

Perhaps, but anytime we can beat one of the most historically elite teams in hockey, with such surgical precision, on the road, and a program we have beaten only once before, ever, it is a very good day for SLU and ECAC hockey -- no matter how good or bad the individual squads might be. I thought it was a tremendous statement in response to the RIT debacle. UND is stacked with NHL draftees. Their coaches and TV guys sounded like they were going to need suicide intervention on the post game shows.

This year seems to me to be one of those years like '06 - '07 where no team is *that" overwhelmingly good, even amongst the teams that are historically "always good" (save possibly Minnesota). Tonight is the same day after all that Holy Cross upended BC.

Great win. Worth every penny of the $10 I paid to watch.

I was not promoting the Union-RPI rivalry as the best rivalry. I did say it was a great one, but didn't once suggest it was better than Clarkson-SLU or any other rivalry. I did say that it was special because of the old-school feel in old barns and not the new, pumped in music, advertisements for every icing, etc that you see at the new school rinks.

I have always respected the SLU and Clarkson programs. As much as I'm supposed to be unbiased one of my favorite things about college hockey is the smaller schools having success. It is special and makes college hockey what it is. I wish I could get out to cover SLU-Clarkson in two weekends, but I'll be covering Hockey East games.

Good luck to SLU the rest of the way.

Jeff, I failed to use the appropriate tongue-in-cheek smiley face. I appreciate your coverage of and respect for our league. I just like to keep the college hockey media on their toes and always aware of our history. We're too too easily and too often overlooked -- as a general principal.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Nice win by the Saints last night. While Greg Carey will get much of the spotlight with his 4 point night, one person who shouldn't get lost in having a great game was Jeremy Wick. He won so many battles along the boards and was a monster on the PK. It was great to see him get the empty net shorty for his hard work last night.

Also not to be lost was the play of Winny. He made some key solid saves last evening and had a great poke check with his stick in the 1st period on what was a bad defensive turnover.

I agree with bcarlisle, that the $$ spent to watch the game online last night was worth it.

It was worth every penny for sure ... I too was impressed with Wenny's play, especially considering the downward spiral he had been on of late, it was a good sign to see. We will need him (or whomever is goaltender tonight) to be on their game because UND will come out flying no doubt. Hopefully we can weather the storm early on, settle in and who knows what could happen ... Let's Go Saints!

On another note, looks as though we are only about 6 posts away from a new thread. Who wants to do the honors? ;):D

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Good to see SLU having a good season. As a UVM fan I still like to see certain ECAC programs do well and SLU has always been fun to watch..good luck the rest of the way (except against UVM ;) )

It is definitely nice to see, hopefully we can keep the ball rolling. I only live 45 minutes away from the Gutt, so i'll definitely be making that trip for sure...Good luck to UVM as well, our former ECAC brethren ;)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Btw, for those who haven't noticed yet, I took the time to start our new thread. Can't remember ever starting a thread before, hopefully I am good luck! :)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Great win last night, fun game to watch. Maybe next year we'll see ND make the trip to Canton.

Do us a favor and take Cornell out...:D

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Talk about home town officiating! I think that black eye distorted the view of the official on ND second goal. It clearly hit the cross bar. Wow, great goal by Greg Carey.
