Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Wasn't able to follow the game at all, but good to see we are back on track.

Gotta wonder if Wenny is going to get the whole weekend off, or if he gets the nod tomorrow.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Great to see the balanced scoring last night and the PP fired back up again. It still looks like we have some work to do on the PK though.

I would be surprised to not see Wenny tonight. We will certainly need him to be on his game out in North Dakota.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I was able to watch the game through the America One broadcast and I must say, that was a vast improvement from last weekend. Our PP looked very sharp throughout the game and the Penalty Kill needs to be addressed. The defense left Parks out to dry on a few occasions, but other than that they were improved as well. Hope we can keep it going tonight, I expect RIT will come out hard, if not even harder, than they did last night to earn the split on the weekend at home.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

4 goals on 9 shots? I'm sure I'll hear a lot of the "defense this", "defense that" over the next few days and of course our defense is not perfect, but I think it's time to face facts here ... Something is clearly not right goaltending wise with Matt Wenninger right now. Is there some sort of nagging injury that is keeping him from performing to the ability that we all know/ have seen him be capable of? Whatever the case may happen to be, this should be the main concern of the team at this point. Something just isn't right! What does everyone else think?

Really don't know what to say. I don't think it is something recent. In games I watched in person, as well as those via the web, it has appeared that he is/has been fighting the puck. He has certainly won a ton of games for us in his career, so why he is struggling this season and the last few weeks is puzzling. I didn't see the game or get to listen..but reading Wally's recap it sounds as if the defense really made some bad turnovers along with a couple of freaky goals. Still.....had Wenny been sharp the coach wouldn't have pulled him.

Overall a very disappointing weekend. The scary part is this is against a team that had one win prior to tonight and was struggling mightily. Now we are headed to North Dakota which brings on a whole different challenge. Not feeling very comfortable or confident about that. We should have had two relatively easy wins this weekend. As coach Carvel has said in his comments......the team can certainly score, but until they find a way to keep the puck out of our own net things will be difficult.

For the most part I'm speechless. Don't know what to say.

I do know what to say: shaky defensive play, shaky goaltending, and taking an obvious (per Greg Lapinski) penalty just after we score twice in 20 seconds to get within one late: EQUALS A LOSS. Well, no bragging rights either way in this house.

I'm trying to stay positive and remember that last season we started off strong as well and went through a slump around this same time of the year. We all know how well we turned it on in the second half of the season. Let's hope for more of the same this season. Gotta work long and hard on the defensive end of things and hope the goaltenders can start to stop the puck! Let's Go Saints!

Muskie, like we talked about at the Cornell game, we score and then take a penalty or give one up within two minutes, These seem to me to be mental /maturity let downs, As far as Wenny, games are won between the face off circles at both ends of the ice and he is getting little help at his end. This was what stood out for me on the TV vs RIT.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Done.

Now, Jeff Cox: How come SLU-Clarkson is listed below "Other" on your poll? Notwithstanding that disadvantageous position, SLU v. CCT is winning this poll going away.

When you write the article about these results, (you're going to do that, right?) you might want to mention that Union has only been D-1 only since about 1980. SLU v. Clarkson goes back to the 1920's. That's an extra 50+ years of rivalry.

Everyone else: Not that I would ever advocate it, but if you wanted to, you could vote again -- on your phone and your iPad without killing any cookies in the process.

I was not promoting the Union-RPI rivalry as the best rivalry. I did say it was a great one, but didn't once suggest it was better than Clarkson-SLU or any other rivalry. I did say that it was special because of the old-school feel in old barns and not the new, pumped in music, advertisements for every icing, etc that you see at the new school rinks.

I have always respected the SLU and Clarkson programs. As much as I'm supposed to be unbiased one of my favorite things about college hockey is the smaller schools having success. It is special and makes college hockey what it is. I wish I could get out to cover SLU-Clarkson in two weekends, but I'll be covering Hockey East games.

Good luck to SLU the rest of the way.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

A Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Saint fans, team members, coaches and supporters.

Best of luck out in North Dakota and safe travels.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. Hope all of you are able to enjoy the holidays with family and friends.

I get the pleasure of flying home from work today, earlier flight than I was supposed to be on, so hopefully I can get to my house and come up with a decent meal.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Alright, a tough loss for the Saints last Saturday. They showed some real heart and character battling to the end.

It seems Saturday losses are always tough as you need to chew on it all week until the next game. Well, the next game is finally here!

Time for the Saints to win a couple in North Dakota. We have the talent and skill to win these games. I'm sure coach Carvy will have them ready to play.

As a side note, if anyone made the trip, let us know what you think of the "Ralph". It's one trip I hope to make one of these years.

If I wasn't already going up to Charlotte this weekend for a friend's wedding, I probably would have made this trip. I've heard fantastic things about the rink, it's also on my College Hockey Bucket List.
