St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Asst Coach Brita Schroeder Bragnalo missing???

FYI, goalie Katie Fitzgerald looked great in summer skates.

Yes. Brita took a job in the front office of the USHL team her husband works for. :(

She was replaced by assistant coach Jim Fetter's wife, Shera Fetter. Shera played at Mankato a few years ago (don't we all have our own cross's to bear?). "Insiders" say she is very active and knowledgeable, and that the players like her.

The Huskies are off to a hot start--a tie with Team Japan, and a 3-0 shutout over University of British Columbia. Fitzgerald and Friend split both games in goal, and looked good.

"Machine Gun" Molli Mott, Vanessa Spataro, Julia Gilbert and Audrey Hanmer have all looked improved from last season. Some of the newcomers have shown some skill, but lets wait until the competition gets better.

The Huskies are now playing in the renovated and re-named Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. (Some of us will still affectionately call it the Concrete Center.) Phase I of the renovation includes a 60,000 sq. ft. addition to the South side of the building that is now the main entrance. Four stories of a glass front, new concession stands, new restrooms, lots of great SCSU murals, etc. It is something else.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

That is cery cool. I wonder if it will affect attendance (at least if games are televised real time?

With respect to your signature line or whatever it is called...before you could expect world peace by everyone watching the Little League World Series, first the USA would have to stop stacking the deck in their favour...they have about 600 teams in the tournament and every other country has one.

Other than that I understand your sentiment. I watch it every year...the Championship looked good on Japan this year...neat kids.

Nice shutout win... oh... err... ummm... TIE. :o

Good job by Friend to keep QU off the scoreboard, but the shot totals indicate that the Husky offense was a bit lacking.

The Huskies tallied 19 SOG for the game, and in the "modern" era (last 3 years!), that is a MASSIVE offensive push! Julie Friend and her counterpart Katie Fitzgerald will need to be very good all season. Both are excellent goalies. Quinnipiac was big and quick. They moved the puck around, but couldn't capitalize on power plays--mostly in the second period. Then, when the marbles were counted and SCSU had more PP's in the third period, the locals were only able to toss 4 shots on net.

Newcomer on the blue line Caroline Markstrom (Sweden) will help improve the defense.

Crazy Dave is right--Huskies will need to figure out how to put the puck in the net. Matinee match tomorrow at 3:07.

Boomer, I tried to reply to your email, but it bounced saying the user is suspended. All those years of hanging out by the Sin Bin were probably a bad influence on you. Speaking of which, what happened to the Sin Bin Crew? Must have moved on up to the ritzier side of the rink.

Hmmm.

Wonder if I'm suspended from USCHO, or just here at home. Guessing it is here.

The first two games, they wouldn't let anyone sit on the North (press box) side. When we figured it out, we were all too lazy to get behind the penalty boxes. Plus, sitting in the "ritzier" side of the rink, I have to watch what I yell, as the players and coaches are really close! And, am missing the conversations with Nick the PA guy, the off-ice officials, and of course, the ON ice officials. We need to move to the North side next game!!

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Great opening season game--2-2 tie that eventually ended up with the extra shoot out point (Machine Gun Molli Mott).

Huskies have one loss and the rest ties. Do we see a "streak" here?? IMO, they have improved on defense, the goaltending is superb, and the offense has a "hint" of being able to score some goals.

They have won more than a fair share of contests over the years against Ohio State. Hopefully, they can spoil the Buckeyes weekend with a win on Saturday.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

FINALLY--an end to all the ties! Oops, we did lose, didn't we. Good to see the Huskies come back in the third to make a game of it. ---Now off to wisco to visit the Badgers. [IMO Mark Johnson is a better coach--men or women--than Mike Eaves]

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

You deserve a bump today!

Huskies...Huskies...Huskies!!!

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

The last entry was to announce the end of a streak of tying the opponent. This is to announce the end of the six game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the UMD Bulldogs. Husky goaltender Julie Friend had 52 saves on 53 shots, and our captain Amy Olson got her first two-goal game--along with renowned sniper Machine Gun Molli Mott and senior Julia Gilbert.

Evidently UMD coach called it "The Halloween Horror Story," and from anybody but Ms. Miller, this would be hyperbole.

Trick or Treat!!!

Is this the first time the Huskies have topped the Bulldogs?

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Huskies leave Duluth with 4 out of 6 points.

And the Gophers streak is still intact.

What was Al Michael's big quote from 1980? And the game will be played at the Herb Brooks Hockey Center on the campus of St. Cloud State University!!

Now I'm getting goosebumps . . .or, it might be the early onset of a cold . . .

Funny you bring up 1980. I'd like to be in St. Cloud next weekend, but... well... I'll be in Lake Placid. :o :p :D

Well today will be the end of the season and hopefully the Giesen era. One can hope right?

You never wish anyone to loose their job but Giesen has had ample time to turn that program around, and has done very little to improve it. The question has to be asked, or maybe it doesn't. My opinion, he must be replaced. do you give his assistants a chance, or do you find someone new. They have not been able to convince the top new talent to the program, their facilities are second to none, it's a excellent academic school, (comparable to other WCHA) so is it the programs lack of winning or the poor recruiting? Maybe they need someone with ties to the Minnesota area where a lot of great talent comes from? Maybe they need someone with ties to the u-18 USA or Canada hockey? Not sure, but change is needed. Does anyone have any ideas, who could replace him or if Fetter is name coach , you hire a new assistant with potential to attract the best freshman from this country and Canada..

Surprising that no one posted anything about the Gophers vs SC series. As we all know, both games were very entertaining, the 2nd game was a heart beaker, to be up 3-2 with 2 mins left and loose was tough to swallow. What must have been exciting for the girls, was too watch that rinks attendance grow as the game wore on, our section had a handful of fans when the game started, by the end of the game we had dozens around us.
My husband and I really notice how well the freshman line played, we thought they were the Huskies best line over the 2 games, they scored in both games and I'm pretty sure they led the team in goals 5 on 5, and seemed to have the puck in the offensive zone more than in their defensive zone. Yet when we attended last weekends game, they were split up, all 3 freshman forwards (the only 3) were on different lines, what happened? Logic would tell you that you keep your top line together, they can score, and keep the freshman line together, they were providing secondary scoring and at least some hope of scoring, something this program has not had in recent years. I wonder what the strategy is behind that odd move?
Hopefully the team can turn things around in the new year.
