St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Happy New Year to all Huskies fans and women's hockey fans. Im really looking forward to again watching games at the Herb Brooks centre, my hip surgery kept me away for a little while at the end of last year. It will be interesting to see what type of recruits the new coaching staff bring in next year,

Spoken like a dyed-in-the-wool hockey fan!! Sincere good wishes for a complete and speedy recovery.

I'm excited too about the new recruits coming in during the Rud years. I remain optimistic--Rud is a smart guy, and smart enough to have two excellent hockey people as assistants/ recruiters.

Maybe SCSU could hire Shannon Miller as an independent contractor to comb the European area for some Huskie Talent. Hey, we have four Finns playing on the men's side, so the welcoming committee is already in place!

Look forward to meeting you at a game, Sandy.

I'd expect recruiting to improve, but next season may be a bit early to get a glimpse of what you can come to expect. With the whole staff being new, they were at a disadvantage to all the other programs with recruiters in place to land a class by the November signing period.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

What do you expect when SCSU hired an inexperienced women's coach? There's a big difference in coaching men's hockey to women's hockey.
Mike Sisti, Mark Johson, Brian Durocher. I don't think that coaches from the men's side are automatically better, but they aren't automatically worse either.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

I always try to give the SCSU Women's coach at LEAST 4 years before the criticism starts!:)

It will take a while (years, not months) for Rud and his assistants to make a difference in the landscape. Let's give them a chance.

What happens at Duluth would be Duluth's issue. They brought in on themselves. Shannon Miller has a lot of history on the negative side, but she is the only coach I would go watch no matter who she coached. She gave me entertainment, raised by blood pressure, and once gave me a dirty look! Her teams were always pretty good--often (5) the best, and to see her work the officials was amazing.

Back to the Huskies. . . I checked, and no golf courses open in Central Minnie. So, will attend both tilts with the Marooners. Hope to see the usual Gopher regulars at the Herb. Oops, we are not to call it the "Herb" so lets just say the Concrete Center.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

What do you expect when SCSU hired an inexperienced women's coach? There's a big difference in coaching men's hockey to women's hockey. Not to mention he brought in two assistant coaches who had a combined total of maybe 3 years of coaching & recruiting women's hockey at the Div. I level. Don't blame the coach, blame the people that hired an inexperienced women's hockey coach. Shame on the administration for letting the Fetter's go, and/or for not pursuing other successful women's college coaches. The student athletes deserve better. Instead they hired a good old boy who happened to have a previous history at SCSU - thinking that would translate into success in building their program.

Give him and his staff 3 years to clean up the mess they inherited from Jeff and Jim in particular because they couldn't recruit enough higher end players. Shera was brought in last minute and was only there for one season so she can't really be blamed for anything. Wasn't Jim a coach with Canada's U18 program for a few years? Where are any of those players? What was Jeff's hockey background before he got the head coaching job? Did he play in college or juniors or at all? The new staff has a far better level of hockey experience so give them time to build because they basically have to start over and yet still use the players that were already there until they all graduate. Once every player is there because they were brought in by the new coaching staff then we'll see how things are and if we should criticize.

Had a nice visit with family tonight, a nice walk down bemidji sculpture walk, then took in the Huskies game. I thought it was a good effort by our girls. The team is playing better, think coach Rudd is starting to figure out his squad. I must admit , sometimes emotion mixed with some glasses of wine can lead to strong opinions, my hubby can atest to that. I had some strong opinios about coach Rudd earlier, it was probably not fair. He is a smart hockey man, he knows a lot more than I will ever know, and I'm sure he will do his best to help these girls. I have faith this program will improve under his leadership and let's not forget his assistants . From here on, let's support him, our girls and this program . Emotions can get the best of us , and we sometimes forget that this is just a sport. From here on, let's keep it positive , let's support our girls and coaches . They are all doing their best , and i know they all care, win, loose or draw, I supoort our players, and coaches,. go huskies

Sounds like you had a nice visit with some booze too. ;) Your earlier opinions aren't completely off. There should be a more noticeable difference to the overall outcomes, etc, but there really isn't. It will be a very long unpaved road ahead for this program, unfortunately mostly because of the ineptitude of the previous coaching staff, particularly the unqualified former head coach and the ineffective male former assistant.

Haha, did you see what time I posted? This ol lady does not stay up that late without the help of the corked juice. We were enjoying ourselves, visiting family. You make some great points in your last 2 posts, agree with all of them. Yes this coaching staff is far superior, and they will be better.
I'm going to keep my promise, the game plan was solid , the execution almost worked tonight ;)

Good for the Huskies! Jinelle Siergiej, assistant coach for SCSU who played for Wisconsin had a nice part of the Wisconsin preview video coming into this game, saying sitting in the opposite bench from Mark Johnson was 'intimidating'. She was part of a nice upset!

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

A very important win for the coaches, the program, the administration, the fans, but mostly for the players--especially the seniors. It has been another long and frustrating season for the Huskies--with some renewed hope with the coaching staff changes and a few new players added. The seniors--Abby Ness, Kalli Funk, Amanda Arbogast, Audrey Hanmer and Julie Friend--have put everything they have into this season. Friday against Wisconsin, they were rewarded.

I'm guessing they are enjoying today in Madtown!

Congrats to the entire team.
