St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Boomer, good luck the rest of the way! Hope to see you in Columbus for the return match!

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

A fun game to watch (obviously more fun for the Ohio fans) today at the Concrete Center. Suffering from offensive power outages the past two seasons, the Huskies have a new approach. Today both SCSU goals were short handed. Huskies held a lead for a good portion of the game, until the fateful third period. I can see why this Buckeye team has excited their fans-- they role lines without drop in production, good goaltending and the never quit attitude. Good luck to them the rest of the way, at least until SCSU travels to Ohio in January (if they aren't stranded somewhere).

BRIGHT SIDE: I have to agree with my Gopher friends--the Huskies have improved since last season and will win some games this year. Sophomore defender Aubrey Hanmer had a terrific game defensively and offensively. Freshman goalie Katie Fitzgerald looked good, and my favorite, "Machine Gun" Molli Mott got off 9 SOG and is playing with confidence. Hope to see some of the other freshmen in action next week as SCSU hosts Lindenwood.

OHIO STATE OBSERVATIONS: This is the least physical Buckeye team I have seen. Past squads always seemed to have a few players that played on the fringe of legality. ---Right after the game, coach Hanrahan just screamed at referee Jay Mendel. Now lets remember that Ohio won the game. From the fan's vantage point, this was a typical WCHA reffed series--mostly good, with iffy calls on both sides. I thought it odd that Hanrahan threw a tantrum. Of course the Huskies are coached by Jeff Giesen who is no stranger to railing at the refs on a regular basis . . .

Surely you jest. No WCHA coach would ever question the judgement of an official.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

I look for the Huskies to put a couple in the W column in their next conference series.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Huskies get a W in NC action today vs. Lindenwood. Always like to see that WCHA NC record improve.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

This is to rescue this thread from the second page--unfortunately, rescuing the team from the second division will be a more difficult job . . .

Yes, the Huskies did sweep Lindenwood--barely on a Friday, and more convincing on the Saturday.

Then the maligned/injured/controversial (only because of their firey, outspoken and entertaining coach, Shannon Miller) the UMD Bulldogs came to town. Those that may bode ill will towards Miller and her international squad were too optimistic regarding the "end of the era." Ms. Miller had most, if not all, of her players healthy and playing. Both games gave the impression that after UMD got a 3 goal lead, the remainder of the contests were high-test systems and passing practice. The Dogs moved the puck at will, and the sharpshooters took dead aim--putting up 4 each night against the two very good SCSU netminders.

While all Bulldogs impressed, I was most taken by #19, Jenny McParland. Effortless skater, smart hockey player, and very, very skilled.

On the home town side, local hero Machine Gun Molli Mott gave good effort as always, and Capt. Alex Nelson was impressive Saturday (she did not play Friday due to an upper arm injury in the shoulder area).

But things get easier over the Thanksgiving weekend when the Huskies travel to Madtown for a go at the Badgers. Didn't someone say they weren't quite the power this year??

This will be a good test for the Huskies, on the road too. In 10 games played for both. SCSU gf 12 ga 31 -19 1.2 goals a game is not enough. Wisco is 20 gf and 16 ga +4. This could be the day :)

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Breaking News!! SCSU Huskies rise from the bottom of the league to 7th place!

After a warm up sweep at Lindenwood (by a slim margin), the Huskies hosted the Mad Cows from Mankato and lost a close one Friday before winning the Saturday contest by three. The empty net goal at the end by senior defender Katie Allen was Ms. Allen's first goal as a Husky.

After winning three of the last four games, the Huskies don't play for a couple of months :( Well, at least not until they host the last place Bemidji State Beavers Jan. 4-5.

HA! The rejuvenated SCSU Huskies have vaulted to a 5 point lead over the Beav's from Bemidji with a 4-2 win Friday.

As you know, (??) the Huskies are only 4 points behind Mankato--with a game in hand!

Machine Gun Molli Mott led the Huskies with a goal and assist--the goal being the game winner.

It will be a festive crowd for today's matinee at 2:07. Unfortunately, most of the festivities will revolve around Bemidji's senior, Emily Erickson. For some reason, several of the Sin Bin Crew at SCSU have adopted Emily, and treat her to many M&M's, cards and signage. Some of the illigitimate "Emily Erickson Fan Club" may be cheering for her--but only when she is on the ice. (Fan Club slogan: "#10 in your program, #1 in our hearts."

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

The Huskies are downright explosive this year. Three players have already topped the 16 points that Brittany Toor had last season, the highest mark since the days of Roberts, Nelson, Hogan, and Pezon.

As for BSU's E.E., she's a finesse player. One penalty for two minutes on the season -- what use does the Sin Bin Crew have for the likes of her?

It all started in either her freshman or sophomore season. Bemidji is ready to take the ice, and Skeeterman asked if any of the waiting players wanted popcorn. EE nodded her head, and then proceeded to catch every kernel that Skeets threw! Kolorful Ken began gifting M&M's shortly thereafter, and the rest is history.

And they say SCSU women's hockey has little tradition . . . ;)

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Rescued (?) from page 3! Since the last time, it is believed that the Huskies will, indeed, compete the WCHA schedule for the year. Since the last time, the Huskies (who once owned a 5 pt. lead over Bemidji to escape last place) have again dropped some games and are in 8th place.

I hate to say it, but CrazyDave might be right--the Huskies may "get" to play the U of M Gophers on consecutive weekends. I thought I heard somewhere that the Gophers haven't lost many games this year . . .

If you can get a win in Mankato, then maybe not. I think that SCSU has the tiebreaker over the Beavers, who finish with Minnesota and Wisconsin.

I predict that the Beavers will pick up one point vs the Gophers .... and 2 points vs the Badgers;) So SCSU is going to need more than one win over the next two weekends.

Thus the maybe.

Is it just me, or has Minnesota been the opponent for an inordinate number of SCSU Senior Days over the years?

It's just you. :)

This year, yes, the Gophs will be sending off our seniors. Last year SCSU ended the home part of the regular season against Bemidji. In the 2010-'11 season, Huskies ended with Mankato. Then, in 2009-'10, the Huskies last home game was against the Minnesota Gophers--with a 6-3 WIN. They lost the night before at Ridder. . .

And, IMO, "Fever" may HAVE a fever by predicting the Beavers will pick up any points against either U of M or Ms. Bucky.

Re: St. Cloud State University HUSKIES!!

Yes, the Huskies own the tie breaker against Bemidji by winning three of four games this season against the Beav's.

Why do you think I'm skipping next weekend? ;)

In all seriousness, I haven't seen my niece or nephew in over 7 months, so I'm putting up with riding in a vehicle many hours with my parents to go see them. (And better now than during the playoffs. :p )
