Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

Sad about the outcome but the last few games were tight with a lot of strategy and tons of rocks in play. This one was meh. It was over. Mercy rule shouldn't have had to wait until 8th
There shouldn't be a mercy rule. This isn't Little League. Play until you don't have enough rocks left to win.

It's a good thing nobody is overreacting about the US loss in hockey today.

There is no "mercy rule." It's more like chess than Little League. The team that's behind simply decides it has no realistic chance of winning and concedes.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

Well, it doesn't matter too much what you think but, getting relegated, or even just playing in the relegation round, is pretty embarrassing to hockey in this country.

At least attempting to give a * about the WC would do a heck of a lot for hockey here.

Relegation? Yeah, that's the ticket. Let's see those weasels in Bulgaria and Lichtenstein try to shut out the USA if we get relegated. We'd clobber 'em. And it probably wouldn't even take a goal by T.J. Oshie in the eighth round of a shoot out. Six rounds, tops. Maybe five. ;)

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

It does and that's a big reason but, the attitude displayed towards it really effects the way USA Hockey handles the Olympics. They based a lot of selections for this Olympic team based on play in the NHL and the Stanley Cup playoffs, which is not a good idea when it comes to the Olympics. They're not the same. They need to find out if guys can come together on short notice and win. Do guys have the ability to play in consistently for 2-3 weeks, can they play against teams that are going to better than the last team they faced? Do guys have any sense of pride in representing their country? If it's a burden to add two weeks to your season, if you're available, for the World Championships then what is it for the Olympics?

That's the big problem with USA Hockey, they don't put pressure on guys to stand up and represent. They don't press guys to play at the WC, they don't press the teams to medal. If they press guys to medal at the WC, "if you guys don't medal, it's a failure," then we wouldn't have had this embarrassment today. USA Hockey is not respected around the world because of things like today and it's because of the attitude at the top.

Is this in code?

I wasn't talking about mercy for them. I was thinking of myself.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

Toews opens the scoring at 12:55 of the first just like he did in Vancouver. All Canadian goals this tournament have been scored by Western Conference players.

1-0 Canada after 1. Sweden will have 1:48 of PP to start the second because of a high sticking call on Chris Kunitz.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

Daniel Sedin with a nice sliding play to block a partial break. I guess the Swedes are serious about this one.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

best player in the world showing as he has been the best player in this game.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

With the way this one's going...it'll be Toews'. :p

Yeah, just meant Sid's was the dagger. Just need Perry to score for a replay of Vancouver. :)

Swedes need to score as many goals as we've given up all tournament. Not happening.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

BTW...Oliver Ekman-Larsson hasn't seen a second of ice time this game...

EDIT: And OEL finally gets a shift...

US Women, that's how you play with a two goal lead. You try to make it three, not fear letting it get to one.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

think finland (with rask) would have been only team with a chance against canada.
