SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Headed to Appleton Arena shortly. Hoping we can pull off at least one win this weekend. It will be tough, Michigan Tech is a vastly improved team from last year! Let's Go Saints!

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Sounds like a good performance by Wenny and some even strength scoring got us the win against a Tech team that is doing pretty well over in the WCHA. How was the game?

Excellent game all around. We came out flying in the 1st and it showed at the end of the period when we were up 2-0. Wenninger was a beast tonight, he easily stopped 10-15 quality scoring chances (or more). The crowd was once again sparse and despite the goals and the win it was rather dull in the stands. Hopefully Wenninger stands strong tomorrow because I have a feeling Michigan Tech will be coming out hard to start. Nice win tonight guys!

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

I think a couple of big weekends mixed in between with the SLU/Clarkson Appleton tilt makes for an important bump to the top :)

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

I ordered tickets to the Clarkson game in LP through the alumni association and asked to have them mailed to me. Haven't seen them yet. Has anyone else received them?

Tim.......did you just order tickets to the game or the reception too? It might be that we have to pick the tickets up at the reception but if we want to see the first game that's a problem. Here is the number on the Alumni events website to call to find out what the scoop is: 315.229.5526

Very tough road trip coming up closely followed by a Clarkson game. Tough stretch. In years past this trip was one tough game and one easier one. Now it is two difficult games for sure. A split would be wonderful but that might be too much to expect. Any kind of points on this trip will be good. Gate is clearly a much improved team and Cornell at Lynah is never easy.

Yeah, I sent them an e-mail yesterday. I ordered both. I'm pretty sure on the order form they asked whether you wanted to pick them up or have them mailed, and I'm pretty sure I said I wanted them mailed to me. I'll call tomorrow if I haven't heard.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Getting shut out sucks. But getting shut out by Cornell, at Lynah, without Flanagan, Hughes, and Wick, isn't such a disaster. I only heard the third period, but it sounded like SLU actually won it. (Clearly they were on the short end of the first two.) At the other end, holding Cornell to one goal on the road is a very good result, especially without Hughes.

Good losses don't get you anywhere in the standings, but that kind of effort will probably win a lot of games, particularly once they get healthy.

Agree 100% but on the other hand 13 shots on goal is not going to win you many games either! I'm starting to get concerned and wonder about Flanagan's injury.........he was supposed to be back for this series but with the kind of injury he has weeks can turn into months. While depth and a good freshman class is a strength of this team......we are not deep at the scoring and skill positions and missing Hughes and Flanny puts a lot of strain on the team.

Hopefully we will keep Gate off the board like we did Cornell but get a little more offense going tonight.

While Colgate isn't a 1 player team, shutting down Austin Smith has to be priority number one for the defense tonight. 17 goals, with another week or 2 until the semester break, is a very, very respectable total.

Hopefully they steal a couple points tonight, would definitely be a very good road split.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

OK, that was a lost weekend. Not much to do but forget it and put everything into beating Clarkson.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Yep, any positives that came from the end of the Cornell game were lost in the first 20 of the Colgate game. We knew it would be a tough weekend down there, and I honestly would have been alright with taking a point out of it, but we didn't and now have back to back Clarkson games ahead of us. I guess the good thing is we host them first, and it is guaranteed to be a great atmosphere, hopefully the fellas show up and are ready to put the engine in overdrive.

We're still in a good spot, a 3 way tie for 3rd with Yale and Union, but 3-11 is only seperated by 2 points. It is early, but the league is again showing it will be a bottleneck in the middle, where a single point could mean a 2 spot jump, maybe more.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Hey guys,

Haven't been on here in a while and I hope everyone is doing well. Big game tonight, huh?

I just wanted to let you all know that I plan to live blog tonight's game with Clarkson and at Lake Placid on Saturday. A colleague informed me of a new blogging tool that allowed you to ask me questions during the broadcast, so those who can't make the game feel free to go to my blog, and type in your questions once the session starts.

Good luck to the Saints tonight. They are 7-2-1 against Clarkson the last 10 games in Appleton.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Where have all the SLU fans gone.....long time passing??
Where have all the posters gone.....long time ago.
Where have all the true fans gone....turnovers and Clarkson picked us everyone.
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever, learn?

Sad state of affairs when we have an SLU/Clarkson game and no posters, no comments.

I will be in Lake Placid hoping for a better result....I thought this team had turned a corner but we seem to have regressed. Certainly we are feeling the loss of the two players out but Clarkson was missing a bunch of players as well. Injuries are a part of the game and season.
See you all in Lake Placid.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

One analogy may be that "talk is cheap" or another may be "actions speak louder than words". All BS aside, this is a critical and potentially trendsetting game and nobody knows that more than the guys in scarlet and brown. Besides it's getting harder to get a "hate on" at my age...

Ya I know I put the ball on a tee but no insults are required from you Leckster. LOL

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Good win last night. Nothing like seeing SLU beat Clarkson in Lake Placid. Nice crowd for both schools, too.

I thought the game could have been very different after two periods, both ways. SLU set up a couple of gorgeous back-door passes right at the edge of the crease but missed both of them. At the same time, Weninger made 2 or 3 stellar saves. Clarkson moved the puck well in the SLU zone and got some excellent looks at the net.

St. Lawrence won the third period handily, though. Great to see Carey start to find some space and turn that shot loose a few times, and it was fun to see the freshmen in person for the first time. When Flanagan and Hughes get back, this group could be pretty darn good.

Finally, it was nice to see the TL guys, the hp1015 family, Steve, and Tayt, and catch up with an old friend at the reception. Hope to see everybody again in Burlington.

Thou Shalt Be In Burlington unless thy plane crashes heading home, or some other unforeseen event. Looking forward to it, especially because unless I hit the road or get a chance to make playoff game(s), I'm not sure when I'll be able to go again.
