SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Back from the game.....There is pretty good word to describe tonights game and that word is "depressing"....We actually played pretty badly in my opinion, many missed passes, many missed shots (we straight up fanned on several) and it seems like a major step backwards after the 3 game winning streak of the past couple of weeks....And what in the world has been going on at home this year? We have a solid schedule loaded with home games and after the first 5 at home we are 1-4. Not only that, but we have managed to score a total of 6 goals in the 5 games combined. That isn't going to get it done! Alot of work to do still.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Hope you guys do better toknight against the Crimson. Hahvad is not that good. There was some absolutely atrocious refereeing. These clowns were bad against both teams but Hahvad took advantage and Clarkson did not. Hahvads game winner came on a shot from the point that was redirected in off a Clarkson leg only because a Clarkson player was blatently interferred with trying to clear the puck. Clarkson only had themselves to blame for this loss. They had a 5 min major power play for the last 5 minutes of the game and could not even get the puck into the Hahvad zone to set up due to crappy passing and stick handling. Hope the clowns were sent packing to central New York for toknight. Good luck.

That's sounds typical of the good ole ECAC. Hopefully those refs stay away from Appleton Arena tonight, we have enough problems to deal with ;)

I watched most of the game on webcast. The team was as punchless as the crowd at Appleton. Having the students there is a big deal, and they were not there. 1200 quiet fans is not going to do it either. As for the game, SLU dominated possession for long stretches, forced turnovers on the forecheck and then did nothing with it. No passes connecting in the slot, Dartmouth blocked a lot of shots, we missed the net a lot, Dartmouth finished and we didn't. I have a feeling SLU is going to be a better road team than home team this year. It figures this will be the year we have a ton of home games. Hopefully, we bounce back tonight. On the bright side, officiating wasn't as bad as usual in Canton but we will probably get the crew from Potsdam last night and vice versa. SLU took two frustration slashes in the 2nd half but on the first they missed interference right before it. Well above average for ECAC refs. It was a let down...hopefully, we bounce back.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Thanks for the game recap. Always nice to hear from someone who was at the game as opposed to those of us who have to rely on the Internet to see or hear them. Sounds like a lackluster game on our part which makes tonight's game all the more important. Harvard is clearly one of the teams in the have less category this year so it makes tonight a "must win" game. Dartmouth on the other hand does have tons of talent and is picked by most to finish in the top 3. It is disappointing to see our home record so far. Granted most of it was early on but we have to start making Appleton a harder place for a team to play particularly with all the home cooking we have this year. Let's go Saints!!!! Let's put a W up there tonight!!!!!

We need to figure it out at home. Appleton Arena used to be one of the toughest places to play and lately it seems to be quite the opposite. We used to win lots of games when the students were out of town, but lately we are not as dominate and we need the strong student support to push us through the tough games. The place felt like Meehan with as many empty seats and quiet fans last night. Disappointing, but we still are 3-2 in the league and have a big game against Harvard tonight. Let's Go Saints!

Granted that Harvard was picked near the end of the pack in the league, no game is easy in the ECAC. The Harvard game will be a battle for sure. Hopefully we can pull it out as this game is pretty important for us.

In other St. Lawrence news, the St. Lawrence mens soccer team lost 2-1 in double overtime to Oneonta State in the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 in Canton. This was the first loss of the year for the Saints and they finished with an 18-1-1 record. Congratulations to the soccer team on an outstanding season!

If you think Appleton is bad, try attending a game at Bright Center as a Harvard fan. We are regularly overwhelmed by the opposition's fans and we are as loud as church mice. Really embarrassing considering we had one of the tougher arenas to play in during the 80's. Reminds me of when Bright was being built and we had to play our home games at BU. Yeah, that was fun.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Big 4-3 win over the Crimson tonight for the boys. Gunnar hughes gets the GWG for his first career goal, while Martin nets 2 to lead the charge. Only 2 points off of Cornell's pace, and realistically, if SLU averages splits for the season, that puts them at 22 points, and would probably put them close to the top 4, which would be better than any of us expected I believe. Good win in what was a game they should win.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Nice bounce back win by the Saints tonight in a tight one. Nice to see the Freshman contributing so much particularly when it was needed with Flanny out.

Anyone have any info on his "upper body injury" and how serious it might be??? Will we expect him back soon?? Hope so as he has really elevated his game this year.

I have been to the Bright Center once a few years ago. We outnumbered the Harvard fans and I felt like I was at a home game all the way in Boston :p But in Appleton Arenas case, we are never outnumbered by the opposing fans, but when the students are gone the attendence figures are less than appealing.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Last nights game was much better effort for the guys. We seemed to be quicker and have more energy for all three periods. This ultimately resulted in a win (a much needed one) for us. We managed to have a couple of bounces go our way for once and as we all know the lucky bounces typically don't go our way ;). The game winning goal appeared to deflect off of the goalies glove and downward into the net. A couple weeks ago that wouldn't have gone in. Hopefully that continues to be a trend. Michigan Tech next weekend for a pair of non-league games. A chance to get back to .500 on the overall record. Continue to make us all proud Saints!

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Prier is really struggling at Princeton. May be sorry he ever left SLU !

Struggling before his first recruiting class? Give me a break. Prier is a winner. Prier is class. Prier will not be outworked. I am an SLU fan and the hardest part for me is watching my team compete against a team that he will turn into a winner.

I agree with Critsports. Rubbish!!! No further comment needed!!!
