SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

All the best to the best of the best. From the SLU press release: "Three of his former players are Division I head coaches: Bob Prier at Princeton and Chris Wells, coach of the St. Lawrence women's program, and now Carvel."

Hmmmmm. I would say they left off one other former player who is a Division I head coach. Anyone care to guess who ???? Hint Hint: He and his wife are co-head coaches ;) .

What makes you think it wasn't intentional Vic??? After all........if we acknowledge that fact.... we would then have to acknowledge that all those losses to you guys over the years actually happened and existed. This way we can pretend they never happened. They didn't, did they??

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

"The number of individuals that Joe has positively helped is endless, and that is his real legacy IMO."

Nothing else needs to be said.

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

Best wishes to Coach Marsh, he will be missed. Here are published comments from Seth Appert and Rick Bennett.

"I was sad to see it," Appert said. "He's just a legend in our coaching profession, and one of the best people that we have in our game. Forget about coaching, he's just one of the best people.

"Sometimes, now, with rivalries, as coaches, you don't become friends with the opposing coach, or you don't go over to talk before games. But when you see Joe, it's always a hug and how's the family. I know St. Lawrence will miss him, but we'll all miss him."

Said Bennett: "I thought Joe was the Godfather of this league. Our league took a hit today with Joe retiring. I thought he was one of the classiest guys I've ever met in this racket. He was a guy who would go out of his way to talk to assistant coaches or head coaches that didn't matter, and that said a lot about his character. Just being a finalist for the [Tim Taylor Award] that we're up for, he gave me a call. I just thought Joe was a first-class guy. We're going to miss him."

Nice little hi-light video on the ECAC website for coach Marsh. Some very old footage and some from Lake Placid and the ECAC championship. A nice tribute to the best coach in D-1 Hockey and an even better human being. We will miss you Joe!!!

Re: SLU Hockey 2011-2012

congrats to Wells and whole squad on a great season!
Anyone know source of that Joe footage where he's wearing a mike? Could watch that all day.
And too bad about Cornell getting blown out in AC. A pity.
Hate to see an ecac team lose out on an NCAA bid, but in this case....go Red Raiders!

Bunch of tweets today

Mike McKenzie has hung up the skates. Good luck on his future endeavours!

Yep, too bad but he had a decent couple of years in the A. I'm sure he'll have great success going forward with anything he does.

Army had his first career goal with Trenton in their final game of the season. Hopefully he gets another look somewhere next year.

I sent this to Tim shortly after, but here's a shot of me getting to hold the National Championship trophy about 15 minutes before the end of the game and trophy presentation to BC and Coach York. Pretty awesome, they took it around to most/all the suites during the 3rd period for "private" photo opportunities, and also had it on display during the pregame festivities out in the plaza for pictures, but I don't believe anybody could hold it outside.

Also, met Pete Besio outside the rink before Thursday and again today. According to hockeydb, he played 2 games @ SLU in 73-74. Funny thing is that he is from the same hometown as I am. Pretty neat. I guess his brother played @ Clarkson as well.

Had an awesome time at the Frozen Four. Tampa was a first-class host of the event, and really did a great job for those who came down for it this year. While I don't want it here every year by any means, I hope Tampa or Sunrise gets another Frozen Four in the future. It may not be a "traditional" city for hockey, but the locals in Florida are really getting into hockey and I saw numerous people with Lightning apparel on. Plus, it makes for a pretty darn nice vacation of sorts for those who attend ;)
