If he shows up now, I am going to blame you, and then I am going to kill you!:p :D (Borrowed that line from A Few Good Men, which clearly doesn't describe our referee corps)!

Ask and ye' shall receive....

Hopefully TTTIMMMMYYYYYYYY doesn't blow this series for SLU.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Mike McKenzie is really writing himself into the SLU history books this year.

Great win. Gotta get another one, though.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

What a great game, Saints! Well-deserved win.
You must feel right at home ;)

Thanks for bringing such great fans every year
See you tomorrow

Go Bears!!!

Thanks........we certainly have been in this position before. Hope the outcome is different this time.

It was a very evenly contested game and I didn't think either team had a big edge over the other. I think the first star of the game was easily Tisi. He played an outstanding game and made some big saves particularly in the first period.

Does Bogo have some jets in those skates or what??? That and as Tim U said Mike McKenzie is on a hot streak.......not only two game winners in a row but his stats against Colgate are staggering.

Here's to a good game tomorrow night. We'll be there in force with Cow Bells, hopefully the drum, the Let's Go Saints chant and hopefully singing "When the Saints go Marching In" a few times and hopefully one time more than Colgate.

It is one almost one o'clock and I have the Q Pac game on and it is in the 5th overtime and it is now the longest game in the history of NCAA hockey.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

What a great night of hockey across the board for the ECAC! Three "upsets" in one-goal games and a Cornell win on the men's side, and Cornell's women's team advances to their first Frozen Four by blasting Harvard. Not to mention the longest NCAA men's game ever....

Good luck tomorrow Saints! End the jinx that we've had at Starr Rink over the years and March on to Albany

I wouldn't have remembered this, but someone mentioned a few days ago (who could it have been? ;) ) that Mike had the GWG in both regular-season games against Colgate this year. Make it three straight now against Colgate in addition to the last two overall. And he's doing it with sheer determination, taking a beating around the goal and making some incredible in-close plays.

Colgate will be extremely tough to beat tonight.

I haven't posted with anything substantial, because I refuse to accept that crappy B2, so I can only listen to Greg & Wally--which leads to my question: what the heck is the real problem with our PP? One goal--which was just an amazing hand-eye thing (thanks, Dan!)--is not gonna cut it. Is it standing around, no creativity, not winning the cycling battles, poor passing, or what?

A couple of thoughts: when Flanagan is out there, our PP is a constant threat to score. He's calm, he's smart, he sees everybody, he makes excellent passes, and he gets shots to net. When he's not . . .

I think they look really good along the boards and they move the puck well. They do win the cycling battles. They're getting the puck where they want it. But all of our point shots are getting blocked right now. I think they either need to start spending more time down low, or the defensemen need to get their shots off a little quicker. I think they're trying to make sure there's traffic in front - which is good - but that extra half second is allowing the defenders to block every last shot before it gets within ten feet of the net.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Thanks, pal. I appreciate the info. Sounds like the one-timer is the key.

Adding to what Tim U said.........I'll take our 1 for 6 on the PP when Colgate was 0-6. That was the difference in the game!!! (Besides Tisi)

Over the last few games and even in the Clarkson series we are getting a ton of shots blocked. It is one thing to get them blocked down low as that is less "dangerous" but we have a very high percentage (or so it seems to me) getting blocked out high which in many instances knocks the puck out of the zone and we have to start all over again (losing valuable PP time). The other worst case is getting them blocked out high and the other team goes off to the races. This isn't just happening on the PP but at even strength. The other thing I noticed is (look at Dan's video's) at times we have two guys in front (which is fine) but that allows the coverage to "bunch up" and makes it easier for the "D" to cover the shots from the point. We want traffic in front and there is no easy answer. I'm thinking it's just getting the point shots off quicker or discretion is the better part of valor and if covered they have to fire wide to avoid hitting the guys covering the points.

Quite the night in the ECAC and elsewhere. With Niagara's win two teams from a 4 team conference will likely make the NCAA's which isn't a good thing for the rest of the leagues. Q Pac's win was epic.......I can't imagine playing a game that long and being on the wrong end of the stick at the end. Talk about deflating!!! And Bruno beating Ylae??? Even minus Backman I thought that was the sure bet of the weekend. It will be interesting to see how Ylae responds.

I'll be there tonight and due to my superstitious nature I'll have to wear the same darn clothes again so as not to jinx anything!!! (My red sweater has really been a charm this year and I didn't wear it last Saturday night but put it back on on Sunday, so there's your answer!!)

Let's Go Saints!!!!

The thing I've noticed is the non-Flanagan PP unit also seems to have problems getting set up in the offensive zone. They like trying to drive it in and around the glass/boards, but often it gets picked up by the opponent and shot back down the ice. Once they get set up, it's almost always 'get the puck to the point, get a shot... that gets blocked.'

Wish I could make it up there for tonight, good luck to the boys and I'll be listening/maybe watching as usual.

Not the oldest, there are class of 64 regularly in attendance. B2 is a good way to see the game, just hard to watch because the audio is a good 20 seconds ahead of the video. You can listen to the audio and then let it tell you when to watch carefully...kind of what I did last night!;)

As for the PP, I am not going to second guess the coaches on this one. The two PP units have two different looks. The Flanny PP is an umbrella with Keller and Caister taking all the shots, Bogo fetching the puck along with Bollig and Bollig screening. The other is a bit more of a traditional PP but has been getting a lot of the big goals including the GW last night. The days of the open up the ice and look for the back door pass are long gone. The defense is too good these days and they collapse so much you can't get shots through let alone a cross ice pass. Having said that, I do think there are too many shots from the point on both PP's and that some more work needs to be down low to pull the forwards away from the points bit more. I am not going to get down on any part of this team. They have just won big games in 4 out of their last 5 contests and are doing a lot of things well. Five on five these are great lines to watch. It would be nice to have our PP at 25-30%, but we don't have that kind of skill on this team. We have some competent scorers, some work like horses guys and two exceptional scorers in McKenzie and Flanagan. This is not the NHL or a Denver where they are two lines deep with top skill / scorer guys. No one, except maybe Yale on a good night, is that in the ECAC and that is why everyone's PP is right around 15-22%.

Congrats to all the boys but especially the St. Mikes Buzzers who came through with a huge goal (again) and a huge night in net (again). We will have to come back tonight with a lot more effort and determination if we want to prevent a third game.

Go Saints!!

I'd also recommend it. Normally the video and audio come through together for me. Last night the audio part of the feed was broken, so we had to grab the SLU radio feed separately. For me the audio was actually about five seconds behind!

Anyway, it's not like watching a profesionally-produced TV broadcast, but it's pretty darn cool to be able to watch the game. I think it's worth the $8, and I'll be watching tonight.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Great Win by the Saints! I only wish I could have been there, but my varsity baseball coaching duties take priority. It is awesome that McKenzie has thrived in the payoffs. No one deserves it more than him, especially with a lot of his critics. Sounds like our penalty kill did the job once again keeping Colgate 0-6. Lets collect a win tonight and ride this freight train right to Albany.

Go Saints Go
