Signs of the Apocalypse

Re: Signs of the Apocalypse

Flyers in 6...VooDoo & goaltending will be the difference.

The gods should be sending a message that you can`t loot, burn and pillage your city every time you win series. :(

Flyers encounter skate problems at Montreal

Buzz up! 7 PrintMONTREAL (AP)—The Philadelphia Flyers sliced through the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday despite a skate-sharpening mystery that affected them throughout Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals.

A mysterious substance—hard enough to cause dents in skate blades—on the rubberized mat in the tunnel leading out of Philadelphia’s locker room and on to the ice, led to a parade of Flyers players getting their skates sharpened and re-sharpened during a 3-0 win over the host Canadiens.

Speaking in French after the game, Flyers forward Claude Giroux(notes) said he didn’t know what the substance was, but it created a big dent in his blade forcing him to miss a couple of shifts. Giroux added that captain Mike Richards(notes) also had dents in his skate blade.

A message left with NHL spokesman Frank Brown wasn’t immediately returned.

Richards, who had to have his skates sharpened at least three times during the game, said he didn’t check the mat to see what the substance was. He said equipment manager Harry Bricker told him the substance was larger than sand pellets.

The Flyers’ equipment staff eventually laid towels across the mat in a bid to protect the skates.

NBC first reported the problem during its telecast of the game, calling the substance sand.

Richards made his way up the tunnel midway through the first period and was spotted standing in his socks. He missed about 3 minutes of game time, partly because he had to wait for teammate Kimmo Timonen(notes), who was also having his skates sharpened.

Philadelphia coach Peter Laviolette would only acknowledge that some Flyers players had “skate issues.”

Re: Signs of the Apocalypse

Doesn't matter...Philly would have won that series wearing flip flops.

Hawks in six...end of a 49 year drought is just around the corner...making the Leafs the new long-term laughing stock. :D :D

Thanks for your insight Seymore. Given your prowess to pick winners (ie: Plattsburgh Cardinals and Detroit Red Wings), I see your prediction as a clear indication that the Flyers are going to win the cup.

BTW despite Chicago's record...the Leafs always have been and will continue to be.... the laughing stock of the league.

Hmmm....we've got two national championship trophies sitting on our mantel...and the Wings have a few Stanley Cups to their credit over the past few years...tell me again about YOUR National Championship success??? And YOUR Flames??

Pfffffttt!!!! Nuf said!

Peter Pocklington Charged with Perjury in US Court:

Good News - He now meets Bettman's criteria for owning an NHL franchise!

Bad News - He was sentenced exactly 22 years to the day he traded Gretzky! VooDoo?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=322804

Ain't that the truth! He joins an impressive  club of NHL execs having high profile legal woes. Just few off the top of my head....Al Eagleson, Bruce McNall, Harold Ballard, Conn Smythe, Eugene Melnyk, William Del Biaggo.

Quite clearly, Balsillie does not meet the requisite character profile to join this club.:p

And don't you just love the karma of the timing! :D

Re: Signs of the Apocalypse

IIRC only 2 teams have ever lost the Stanley Cup Playoff's after having a 2 - 0 series lead. One just last year as the Detroit Red Wings lost to the Pittsburgh Penquins, the other....the 1971 Chicago Black Hawks.
