Signs of the Apocalypse

Re: Signs of the Apocalypse

Pronger stealing game pucks after losing.:D Is this a desperate attempt at Voodoo reversal? Flyers win big tonight, they have to. If they lose, Pronger might eat the puck. :)

Re: Signs of the Apocalypse

No hitter ?....Check that ! A Perfect Game was on the line. There have only been 20 of those in the history of MLB. You are talking 2000+ MLB games a year for many years and there have only been 20. That is about 0.01% chance, to be part of an exclusive club.

Right! My mistake...a perfect game. 27 batters!

Something tells me the City of Detroit could have used that one.

Maybe they should expand the video reply in Baseball?

Actually this morning on TSN, his manager said he was better than perfect since he retired 28 batters!! :)

A travesty no less!!!

I heard that some official has the power to reverse the call. Does he have the yarbles?:)

Then we get the Marris effect. An asterisk beside the result forever.
(For those not familiar, Marris's home run record was considered with an Asterisk for many years as he had more games to do it in than Ruth). This was all forgotten after the drug induced home run derby shattered the record.

So let's get this straight...for 101 seasons of baseball there have been 18 perfect games...now there have been (almost) 3 already this season? Can you spell Adderall?

Boy that pitching is really getting good! Just like McGuire beating the homerun record and Bonds coming along a few seasons later and smashing it. Like we thought they were on the juice.

Wonder how long it will be before MLB bans Adderall?

and the list of humble hockey people marches on...

Ron MacLean helped save someone's life Thursday, helping pull a man out of the Delaware River on an off day in Philadelphia between Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup final.

MacLean couldn't be reached on his cell phone, but his wife, Cari, confirmed the report when reached at the couple's home in Oakville, Ont.

"There was already a man in the water helping someone who'd tried to take his life and I don't know if Ron jumped in, too, but yes, he was part of a team of two who saved someone's life," Cari MacLean said.

"That's how Ron spent the afternoon on his day off."

MacLean, a host of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, is in Philadelphia to cover the series between the Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks. He appears regularly with Don Cherry on HNIC's Coach's Corner segment.

Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Friday night at 5 p.m. PDT.

Downtown Philadelphia is located right on the Delaware River, which provides the city with its waterfront. The river divides Pennsylvania and Delaware from New Jersey before emptying into the Atlantic just south of New Jersey.

Re: Signs of the Apocalypse

Nope, but I can handle "add them all".
( Never had any education in English, but numbers I can handle all day :D )

add them all...that's fitting. I wouldn't walk across the street to see a ballgame.

The sport is a joke, right up there with WWE....fake. :(

Good for Ron. Not sure if you knew that Ron is actually a very accomplished high level hockey referee as well. I've watched him ref, and while those who know me know I'm not generally a particular fans of refs, have to admit he's one of the good ones. He's done a few girl's games for special occasions because of his relationship with Don Cherry, who promotes the women's game too.

Ron is however very well known as the master(?) of bad, corny puns in his telecasts. My kids used to love going trick or treating at his house on Halloween to get the full size chocolate bars he handed out personally. He always imported the Cadbury bars from England for the occasion, presumably because they had bad puns included inside, much like those in Double Bubble gum here.

Not sure about "fake," but I agree with you that the sport is a joke. My reason for saying that is until MLB institutes a salary cap like the other pro sports, it will always be broken. Teams like my Cleveland Indians will never be able to outspend the Yankees or the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (or whatever they're calling themselves these days). That's the really great thing about the NHL ... any team out there can win the Stanley Cup. Even my Columbus Blue Jackets could squeak into the playoffs, get hot, and Rick Nash could hoist the Stanley Cup in Nationwide Arena (yeah, yeah, I know, insert alarm clock sound here ... LOL). :D

Loved his sparring session with Bettman the other day. It was classic Bettman vs McLean, an annual event during the Cup final on CBC.

Exposed Bettman yet again as a pompous arrogant slimy little windbag. Maclean's just too nice.

In another sign of the apocalypse, tickets for the Stanley Cup games in Chicago are apparently a hotter & more costly commodity than games in the Laker/Celtic series

Re: Signs of the Apocalypse

Ain't that the truth. If Chicago wins the cup this year, the crown for longevity in NHL futility is handed over to the Leafs.

Longest time since Last Cup win:
( of previous winners continuously in the league ):

Chicago (3) - 1961 - 49 years
Leafs (11) - 1967 - 43 years
---------------Start of expansion beyond original 6--------
Bruins (5) - 1972 - 38 years
Flyers (2) - 1975 - 35 years
Islanders (4) - 1983 - 27 years
Flames (1) - 1989 - 21 years
Oilers (5) - 1990 - 20 years
Canadians (24) - 1993 - 17 years
Rangers (4) - 1994 - 16 years (At the time broke a 54 year dry spell)
Dallas (1) - 1999 - 11 years
------------------------------------------------------------------
No one else over 10.

There are also a bunch of teams who have never won in the modern era, the oldest being:
St-Louis (68)
LA Kings (68)
Buffalo (70)
Vancouver (72)
Washington (74)

Hawks Win. Leafs take over the mantle off longevity at the other end of the spectrum (was that not a rink somewhere ? :D ). Tyler Seguin will be the draft pick that would have come to the rescue, but alas he is going to the Bruins...... and Ballard Curse continues.....

Not totally sure about this, but in the "Start of expansion beyond original 6" group, I think if you combine the Dallas Stars with the Minnesota North Stars they would leap to the top...err bottom if you look at it that way.

- Leafs are still on top/bottom. Not only do they have the longest time since their last win, they have by far the longest mark since they last were in the final (43) years.
- Stars won a cup in 2000 (Brett Hull goal), so you are WAY of the mark with them.

If you include expansion teams, the futility list looks like this:

Leafs (11) - 1967 - 43 years..Never been in Final since
---------------Start of expansion beyond original 6--------
Blues (0) - 1968 - 42 years...Been in Final three times
Kings (0) - 1968 - 42 years...Been in Final once
Sabres (0) - 1970 - 40 years...Been in Final twice
Bruins (5) - 1972 - 38 years...Been in Final five times since
Canucks (0) - 1972 - 38 years...Been in Final twice
Capitals (0) - 1974 - 36 years...Been in Final once
Flyers (2) - 1975 - 35 years....Been in Final six times since
Jets/Coyotes (0) - 1979 - 31 years...Never Been in Final
Islanders (4) - 1983 - 27 years...Been in Final once since
Flames (1) - 1989 - 21 years....Been in Final once since
Oilers (5) - 1990 - 20 years.....Been in Final once since
Sharks (0) - 1991 - 19 years...Never Been in Final
Sens (0) - 1992 - 18 years....Been in Final once
Canadians (24) - 1993 - 17 years...Never been in Final since
Panthers (0) - 1993 - 17 years....Been in Final once
Rangers (4) - 1994 - 16 years (At the time broke a 54 year dry spell)
Dallas (1) - 2000 - 10 years...Never been in Final since
Trashers (0) - 2000 - 10 years ...Never Been in Final
Wild (0) - 2000 - 10 years ...Never Been in Final
------------------------------------------------------------------

Forgot about that...we in Minnesota still harbor a grudge when Norm Green moved the franchise to Dallas! :(
