Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?
I highly doubt you'll see any attempts at "avenging" the hits on Genoway/Geoffrion if either UW or UND play SCSU in the playoffs. The stakes are too high. That said, next season could be a different story.
It's unfortunate that the refs got in the way between Mario and Marvin. Both parties were willing, and it would have ended right there (the UND/SCSU side, at least).
If a UND player suddenly shows a propensity for taking out opposing players with hits to the head, I wouldn't oppose a suspension similar to Marvin's.
I agree that calling the Marvin/Geoffrion hit a 5min major and DQ is harsh. I would think on future hits like that a 2min minor for Contact to the Head would suffice, unless the ref deems there was intent to injure. That's a judgment call that would rest on the shoulders of refs that sometimes don't have very good judgment, unfortunately.
I think the league realized that they probably got the initial suspension incorrect on the Marvin/Genoway hit and used this recent incident as a way to "make amends" for that error.
Now, I guess the only question is, which Badger is going to be the one to emulate world hero Mario Lamoureux at the X?

UND fans can't see that for some reason....
