SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Now, I guess the only question is, which Badger is going to be the one to emulate world hero Mario Lamoureux at the X?

I highly doubt you'll see any attempts at "avenging" the hits on Genoway/Geoffrion if either UW or UND play SCSU in the playoffs. The stakes are too high. That said, next season could be a different story.

It's unfortunate that the refs got in the way between Mario and Marvin. Both parties were willing, and it would have ended right there (the UND/SCSU side, at least).

UND fans can't see that for some reason....

If a UND player suddenly shows a propensity for taking out opposing players with hits to the head, I wouldn't oppose a suspension similar to Marvin's.

I agree that calling the Marvin/Geoffrion hit a 5min major and DQ is harsh. I would think on future hits like that a 2min minor for Contact to the Head would suffice, unless the ref deems there was intent to injure. That's a judgment call that would rest on the shoulders of refs that sometimes don't have very good judgment, unfortunately.

I think the league realized that they probably got the initial suspension incorrect on the Marvin/Genoway hit and used this recent incident as a way to "make amends" for that error.

At least you're consistent in your utter lack of class.

For the record, I disagreed with the 6th best Lamoreaux's suspension, since they didn't actually fight.

But yes, it is unfortunate, I would have loved watching that little clown get destroyed.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

It looks like he deliberately went to the front instead of just going for his shoulder. He came up from behind. I don't know why he exerted so much effort to get in front of him instead of just hitting him in the side.

I disagree that he really came from behind. Marvin was only about half a stride behind at the blue line, at which point Geoffrion started to glide and Marvin took one extra stride, I'm guessing because the puck was further up ice at that particular moment.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

In your previous post you said that it's not the checking player's responsibility to know where his opponent's head is when in fact it is.

I don't doubt that this suspension is longer because of the "unfortunate mistake" on Genoway, but it's also a result of a pattern of behavior.

There is no way marvin could have known blake's had was going to be where it was going to be. As marvin starts to initiate the check, the puck is passed to blake, the pass wasn't tape to tape, causing blake to look down and slow up a little bit. Marvin lined up the check for where he thought blake was going to be when he started it (this is called leading), after Marvin initiated the check blake slowed down to compensate for the poor pass causing that lead to be ahead of blake. Blake then turned his body unknowingly towards marvin's incoming check, which caused him to be hit in the facemask. all of this happening in under a second.

I have no idea what video you're watching then.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

No, the head is down looking for the puck as the pass comes in.

And as far as I can tell from the video the only contact made was shoulder to helmet.

ya and marvin intimated the hit just before the pass, another defender was in front of the guy who passed to blake, and marvin saw that the pass was coming.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Allow me to roll back the clock about 12 months ...

Bruess was suspended for a hit on North Dakota defenseman Derrick LaPoint. ...

Bruess was not assessed a penalty on the play.

“We need Trevor to understand that he needs to make every possible effort to avoid these types of incidents and want to emphasize to him that he is responsible for his actions on the ice,” said WCHA commissioner Bruce McLeod. “We hope he will use this as both an educational experience and as a time to reflect on his play.

“We also want to use this occasion to again let all of our conference-member student-athletes know that the game must be played not only within the rules but within the spirit of the rules at all times.” ...

“A hockey player is responsible for his actions,” said Jutting. “Hockey’s a physical game and Trevor’s a physical player, but you have to play under control and with respect to your opponents.”

Folks, the "Trevor Bruess" message hasn't sunk in. The league needed to crack down again. Contact to the head is an NCAA point of emphasis. This is *two* All-American calibre, Hobey contender calibre, team captains that have been damaged (we don't know how badly) due to hits to the head ... by one guy! The league offices had to be hearing about it ... from offices in Indianapolis (think: NCAA) because I know that's where I sent my complaints after the second Marvin head shot.

Marvin was stupid enough to allow himself to become another case study. {obligatory joke about SCSU education here}

" ... you have to play under control and with respect to your opponents" ... or you'll be watching.

None of that(your interpretation of the events which I don't agree with) absolves Marvin from being responsible for his body.

I've seen CFB's that were clearly unintentional, but never have I thought that the checking player wasn't responsible for the act.

Im not arguing it shouldn't have been a penalty he hit his head and that is a point of emphasis, I'm arguing the 3 game suspension is ridiculous, for a hit with out intent to injure

And he accelerated knowing that he had a chance at a "highlight" hit when a solid hit would have been sufficient. He made his own bed here.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

If Marvin's hits weren't that bad, let him volunteer to take proportionally the same hits he delivered to Genoway and Geoffreon:

We'll find someone six inches and 50 pounds bigger to take a 200 foot "crush to the glass" run at his head followed up by a full speed shoulder to the head by someone roughly his size. After that, Marvin's free to do whatever he's still able.

If the hits weren't that bad both Marvin and SCSU fans should be all for it, right?
I haven't seen ANY SCSU fan say the hit on Genoway wasn't bad. EVERYONE has said that was dirty and deserved a longer suspension. If someone wiped out Lasch the way Marvin wiped out Geoffrion I'd say that it was unfortunate and we should get a power play, but no further action is necessary.

If a UND player suddenly shows a propensity for taking out opposing players with hits to the head, I wouldn't oppose a suspension similar to Marvin's.
This is a serious, not a snide, question...what's your take on Zajac slashing the back of the legs of a player heading to his own bench after the whistle?

Haha. :D
Please show me in my post what part of it was classless. :p

You, on the other hand, are quite consistent in your trolling. :)

But yes, it is unfortunate, I would have loved watching that little clown get destroyed.

It wouldn't have mattered who "won" the fight. At least it would have been over and done with.

I've seen it mentioned both here and after the SCSU/UND series, but I haven't seen the video posted of the Zajac/Roe incident. I don't recall if there was a penalty assessed, but I seem to remember that there was.
Either way, it's against the rules and cheap if that's how it went down. That's my take.
I would like to see the video of it to see more of what happened...

The problem is by suspending Marvin for this hit, the league is going to have to suspend everybody no matter what when a hit like that happens. I just don't think that is good for the game.

I will say I am happy this discussion has actually been civil over the last couple days. Funny how we can all have a good discussion when peopel don't act like idiots.:)

You obviously don't know the meaning of trolling. If I were trolling, I would be actively seeking to evoke negative reactions from people, something which I have never done. I have always, always tried to engage in actual conversation regarding a topic I have interest in, and in a thread in which I have business posting in. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't make me a troll, and I'm getting pretty **** sick of being called one.

I'm sorry, but expecting, anticipating, and applauding revenge tactics seems pretty classless to me. I'm just calling it as I see it.

It wouldn't have mattered who "won" the fight. At least it would have been over and done with.

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

What is it about this rule that's so difficult for some to understand?

Contact to the Head
SECTION 8. A player shall not make contact with an opposing player’s head or neck area in any manner.
PENALTY—Minor or major or disqualification at the discretion of the referee. Contact to the head shall be assessed in front of the infraction (i.e., contact to the head – elbow).
Note: The rules committee instructs officials to use a zero tolerance policy in this area.

I couldn't find a video, but there was a major assessed against Zajac for slashing. I was a little surprised that there was not a suspension for intent to injure, but I'm certainly not going to whine about it since I thought that Marvin should have gotten at least 5 games for the Genoway hit and so far has only gotten 4 between two hits. The league may have decided that there was embellishment on Roe's part (entirely possible of course) but it looked really bad in person. (I don't recall them replaying it on the video board.)
