Wrong again...they already won the Great West Conference in 2006 (when they were still in the "probationary period" or whatever they call it).Well at least you read my comment and you are correct about NDSU, they think having a D1 football team is cooler than liquid nitrogen. Unfortunately they don't realize that they will never win a conference championship or NC as a D1 team.

You, me, and 9 other posters picked at random could win the Great West Conference next season.
I hate NDSU as much as next guy, but he didn't specify a conference...and they were ranked in the Top 5 of Div 1AA for most of 2006 and 2007.

UND screwed up some great rivalries with SCSU and a few other schools by going D1 and for what? Money? Great, another couple 100k we can waste on indian cultural centers and on-campus pow-wows. I'm surprised the natives are even agree to the on-campus activities, UND is a dry campus.
You know they have to start some where... I have also heard rumblings about SCSU trying to go D1. So did they screw up those rivalries or just put them on hold until the rest of their rivals made the jump. Also I'm sure a majority of the schools in the country would love the "measly" extra couple hundred grand.
SCSU doesn't have the money to go all D1. I would love to see SCSU drop football and go D1 in everything else like Denver did. I highly doubt that would every happen.![]()
With a 5-yr old football stadium, I don't think so. I think staying D-2 was the right call when UND and USD decided to go D-1. We simply would not be competitive in any sports. Whats the draw to D-1? So we can maybe make the NCAA bball tourney maybe once every 10-15 years and get blown out in the 1st round? No thanks, I'd rather stay competitive in most sports and not be the old Mourningside of D-1 athletics.
We're not great, but not that bad at football. We at least have an NCAA appearance and a couple of close calls in recent seasons. The avg attendance of 3500-4000 is above average for D2 and probably enough to come close to breaking even. I do care about D2 sports though, and I knew quite a few others while growing up in St. Cloud who followed more than just hockey.
SCSU's looking to expand their football stadium within the next 10-20 years.

...and is less than half of what a little D3 school 15 miles up the road draws....
St. John Football?? This is a hockey thread guy...and in that case I propose the fact that your precious D-III team should maybe get their own hockey rink...instead of playing at ours.....roasted

Why are you comparing football programs in a hockey thread. As SCSU said, SJU Hockey draws how many fans to home games? Less than your average high school game from what i've seen.
