SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

I don't even know if I'd give them that CONSISTENTLY, because I'd say year in and year out they'd be behind MN, UND, UW and DU and would be fighting with CC and SCSU, but we were just discussing how they'd have fared this year.

This year? Fighting for 1st-3rd, only because of the jumblef* at the top. I think DU is better, though (have seen about 1/2 dozen games or so, not including against MN.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

Winona, Idk some people who go there like it, apparently it is pretty down there or something.

I applied to pretty much all the schools in the state (UM-TC, UMD, Kato, Winona, SCSU, Augsburg, Hamline) and UW-Madison and Oshkosh, got accepted to them all, and it's not like I was anything great coming out of HS..So I really don't consider these schools much better than each other, at least for undergrads.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

The area is indeed nice, I used to do American Lung Association bike rides from Hastings to Winona in H.S., but as far as colleges go? Meh.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

#3 vs #4 pairwise. And I am working my way through several posts on Winona State University. Wow!!!! The intrigue and insight on this thread, I can't take no more. Maybe we can discuss where to get the best tasting pasties next.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

Yeah, but sweeping bad teams is better than splitting with them. UW has the following sweeps ALL season:

hosting UNH, hosting UAA, hosting MTU, and hosting MSU-M. Which of these worldbeaters defined your season? If its a fair question to ask if we're for real, then the question's back at you guys.

I agree (unfortunately). I'd be amazed if Wisconsin sweeps this weekend. I think they can do it, if they get serious, but the lack of good sweeps this season suggests to me that either they've got issues with focus or they're not as good as their #3 ranking. How they perform this weekend will say a lot.

And yet this thread is way better then last weeks! :D

You're not kidding!

I'll get it started with a little bit from Husky Bracketology. This weekend will more than likely play the most important role for SCSU - definitely more than the Mankato series and the first round of the playoffs, and probably more than the Final Five - in determining whether the Huskies have a shot at the #1 seed in St. Paul.

I find it fairly unlikely that St. Cloud would pass Wisconsin in the Pairwise this weekend even with a sweep thanks to a couple of pesky down-table comparison losses to Vermont and Alaska (both of which can largely be blamed on the Gophers tanking). Still, a sweep would flip the comparison between these teams to SCSU, which would be a huge development. 3 points could also do it if that would be enough to flip the RPI criteria.

The loss of the Gophers as a TUC hurt SCSU and helped UW (for the time being). That element makes the comparison close even if the Huskies sweep.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

True, but I'd say that WCHA equalling another conference is a down year for the WCHA.

You've seen DU but have you seen Miami? Maybe that's what you meant. They're big, fast, and talented. Plus they have two very good goalies. In the past I'd agree with the anywhere from 3-6 assessment but that program seems to be growing into a consistent contender. We'll see how that pans out over the next 2-3 years when they lose a lot of this junior class.

Not going to lie, looking for a split from the Huskies this weekend. When I was in Madison a few years ago they played very well but lost two one goal games, seems to be their luck at the KC. If they can find a way to get 3 or 4 pts it's gravy. Having the next weekend off is going to be a huge relief for these guys and just in time to get healthy and ready for the playoff run. This IS the year the streak ends.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

It's comforting to know that we are due to win at the Kohl Center. I expect nothing but wins from this Husky team for the rest of the regular season and first round playoffs, and Final 5. Well, until the NCAA tourney where we get our first win.

Mike Hastings will be the next golden choker coach.

You do know UNH is in first place in Hockey East by 3 points with 2 weekends left right? That UNH series sweep, along with beating MSU on the road and splitting the Michigan games have positioned the Badgers very nicely in any comparisons down the stretch.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

Honestly, Winona is often very highly ranked in the "Midwest Masters" category in US News and World Report. UMD is also. Both are almost always Top 100 overall and Top 10 public. The over MnSCU schools are usually 3rd tier, although, as mentioned earlier, all have some great programs and some bad programs, so the quality of the education depends on the course of study.

You really are clueless if you think a degree from Winnona or UMD gives you any great advantage over SCSU. Of course each school has it's better programs, but in general you are not going to make more money or get a job over a SCSU grad because you went to UMD.

Where did I say that a degree from one is an advantage over a degree from another? I was merely stating rankings as a possible reason for his buddy thinking his education was somehow better than others. Here's the link to the rankings: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/masters-universities-midwest-rankings. I went to UMD, my parents both graduated from SCSU, my brother went to Minnesota, my sister to South Dakota and I have a cousin that goes to Winona. I have respect for all of these institutions, and feel that our degrees are all of approximately equal value. An interesting tidbit: One of the main lobbyists for the UofM is an alum of SCSU.

I better add some hockey content here. I am very nervous about this weekend, and getting swept would be a major blow. However, I do feel like there is something about this team that will pull together and win when they need to.

I'm sorry my question caused a thread-jack that is not appealing to you. :(
It is not my nature to start multiple threads like some others here. Since there were plenty of participants here from Minnesota, I thought this was a good place to ask.
Thanks to those that responded.

If i was St Cloud i would try to make your hay friday night because saturday is Senior night, we have a big senior class, even tho it is likely we will get home ice, UW always seems to pull out a win on senior night..

That sweep was in the middle of UNH starting out 2-6-2. It would've been much more impressive if itd been a more recent series, and while UNH may be ahead of Hockey East, Hockey East isn't exactly having an amazing year this year.

:D I love how you guys treat vw and 14, its funny as hell.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

I'd say its a down year because the league's not that deep. CC is in the top half of the league, and I can recall years where they'd be 7th, maybe even 8th.

What?! 5 WCHA teams are in the top ten of the PWR. Every team except MTU has a record better than .500 in non-conference games. The league 45-22-6 in non-conf games. The top 5 teams are 26-7-2!

The WCHA schedule is brutal. They beat each other up all year. There isn't a deeper conference in the country this year.

My point is the rankings mean as much as the USCHO college hockey poll. Why even bring it up?

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

The trash talking is embarrassing. I'm sick of it.

if you don't like peoples post's then ignore them and don't respond, thats what i do with most of yours. Its a forum and people are able to express there opinion and thoughts. You don't like it??? go live in Iran or China where people don't have those rights. I'll continue to post my thoughts and opinions and you will do the same, you CAN choose not to participate in the debate, know one is forcing you to argue another point and certainly not forcing you to disparage other people thoughts. If you want to debate a point then go ahead and do it but trying to make people look stupid, or uneducated when it comes to hockey borders on the line of grade school crap. So debate, express your opinions but there is no need for personal attacks toward other people. My opinions are my opinions, i'm not asking anyone to agree with them, i put them out there to show a different point of view and I NEVER use personal attacks toward other peoples opinions on this forum. Maybe you and some other people on this site can start to do the same??? then again probably not...
