SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

One good start in his last five, he hasn't sewn up anything.
If the rotation continued when Lee was playing well and Dunn wasn't, this game isn't going to change anything.

At some point he is going to have to decide. I would think that won't be until at the earliest the fort round of the playoffs. If Dunn keeps playing like he played tonight and in the first half of the season it is going to be him.

Why does he have to decide?
DU didn't and won a national title with it a few years ago.
If he trusts both guys, there's nothing that says he has to do anything.

Not really, there is no reason he couldn't continue to rotate right through the playoffs.

I'm not saying that is the best approach but if Motzko thinks the rotation is working then why would he have to change it?

because they are not sweeping every weekend. The NCAA's are one and done and you have to put your best players on the ice every game. He could rotate in the first round and final five if he wanted.

Name another team in the last 50 years that has done that and won Rabid?

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

While I'll agree that when you 2 have guys rotating it is hard for one to feel comfortable as "the guy" I don't think either one has done anything to step ahead of the other.
It seems like Dunn was better in the first part of the season and then Lee took over as playing better. Now Dunn has made solid starts while Lee has struggled in 2 games against CC and UND (although NO ONE played well on Sat. against UND) he has done well for most of the 2nd half of the season. It is also hard when the other team is working really hard to get a win.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

So because there hasn't been means Motzko has to pick one.
Well hell, using history as a guide, we won't win in the NCAA's anyway so why does it matter who plays the one game then?

I gave you the reason, go back and read it. I think you should call me some more names rabid.:D

I'd still argue neither goalie has proven by consistent play which one is better and I'd still argue Dunn's record is more a product of the offense than his overall play.
His SV% and GAA aren't that much different from his previous two years but the offensive numbers he's getting are.
He's still inconsistent, just as Lee is and it's still my contention that someone needs to step up and grab the job, put together a string of great games, then you've earned it.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

Wow. Just got home after that slaughter. Thought SCSUs 2nd goal changed the game obviously, sucked the life out of the crowd and the Badgers.
Not to take anything away from St. Cloud of course, they played very well, and like an above poster said, did very well in the 3rd period. I kept on waiting for a Badger fightback to come but it never did. Oh well, salvage a split tonight and not much is really hurt.

Re: SCSU and UW: Badger hunting

Nice win. What is Madison going to be like after the Huskies finish the sweep tomorrow? I'll be happy, of course, but I have a feeling the after game atmosphere at the bar won't reflect a typical Madison experience.

EVERYONE came up to us and asked what happened... and we told them we kicked their ***. That was good ****. Oh my god, that felt good.

80-81, 82-83 Badgers, Kleisinger and Behrend. Behrend played both games each year in the Frozen Four, but I'm sure they rotated up to that point. A more knowledgeable Badger fan may be able to verify this. I know in 81-82 Behrend played the first game in the Frozen Four and Kleisinger played the championship game, but the Badgers lost to UND 5-2 that year. :(

If this felt so good, you'll probably just drop dead on the spot if scsu ever wins a game that actually matters.

We need to salvage the split or this guy could die of happiness and pride.

Enjoy it while it lasts. The clock keeps ticking towards the NCAA's and then...:(

I think the best statistic is the number of wins. Offense usually wins games, as the team that scores the most wins the game. Goalies rarely score goals, and pitchers don't hit a whole lot of home runs. However, they do use a win vs. loss stat for both of them. So, who has won the most games? Dunn or Dunn? Consistent, spectacular, whatever, the fact is he's winning games. Let's see what happens tonight. I don't care who he puts in goal, as long as we continue winning. Maybe it's time to put Hardy in there, or maybe Laurel.

And number of wins for a goalie is just as important as number of wins for a pitcher.
The team has scored more goals for Dunn, it's that simple.
Now is it because Dunn is playing?
Possibly, I don't think you can really judge that, but I also don't think it's fair to judge a goalie just based on wins.

Dunn was really consistant the first half of the season and before last night was brutal in the seond half. The one thing we both have agreed on is it seems the team has played way better in front of Dunn than they have in front of Lee. When Dunn was letting in soft goals after soft goal I wanted Motzko to sit him as a wake up call. Motzko obviously knew what he was doing and he came back with a strong game last night. If the team is going to play better in front of Dunn, maybe he needs to be the guy come playoff time. If Lee keeps playing great it is going to be a hard decision for the coach.
