SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

Re: SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

Maybe because some of the people who read this thread regularly might appreciate the info and don't ever go into the gophers thread. Your posts aren't always on topic, so shut up.

:D wow now aren't you the a little ****y today....... Isn't the story on the front page?

Kangas leaving is good for the Gophers. He's been terrible for a year and a half. I can't believe Lucia stuck with him for so long.

Anyone know what kind of beer they were buying? I wonder if they have good taste.

NEWS FLASH: some college students drink beer!

Nothing catastrophic has happened in a while. It's a little too quiet.....

Re: SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

Much needed sweep this weekend to keep the streak going. Should be up to 8 by the end of next weekend the way this team is playing.

I forgot about this thread... At this rate we might not get to a second season thread.

The team was so bad in the first half there really wasn't anything to talk about. Even I can only rag on the players so much before there is nothing else to say.

Especially when its usually said first at Dahuskies

How has Kevin Gravel played for you guys this year? He went to a high school that I'm familiar with and I'm just wondering how he's played.

In a miserable sense your prediction may be for the best. Right now this team is reeling.

Three losses in a row. The 6 - 2 loss to the Landcows hurt us in the Pairwise. But now with their performance in Omaha (Friday night's two-minute meltdown, and the Saturday night third period collapse), home ice for the first round is realistically over.

Listening to the game on Friday night, Don Lyons was lost for words to describe what quickly occurred during the second period. To his credit, he didn't name names. Probably because the entire D-corp is somewhat suspect. Lack of talent mixed with youth equates to a team that leaves its goalies defenseless too often. Not sure how Motzko fixes this systemic problem that the entire league is aware and exploiting.

And now we head to Dulloot. Hopefully this brutal run to close the season will harden the D-corp to prepare them for the playoffs. But at this point, it is hard to imagine SCSU at the Final Five.

How did we manage a swoon without an actual peak this season?

I'm impressed.

I disagree, I think we can get to the Final 5 but it'll be on the road. And honestly, I thought UW, CC, MN and us were fighting for two home spots, and with our remaining schedule, I'd say count us out. Now the key is going to be going to CC, MN or UW, or actually even UNO. I'd say the Kohl Center we'd have the least chance of making it out of, then Qwest, then the World Arena. I'd be ecstatic if we ended up in Mariucci. But let's be real, there are chances we could end up in North Dakota, Denver or Duluth! :(

This team needs to learn to FINISH. After the first period, we didn't have any real chances until the end when we needed it. The team needs to kick a team when they're down and keep their foot on their throats because we don't have a good enough team and especially blueline to sit back and hold on to a lead. Our defense plays best when we keep the puck in their zone and they aren't asked to do anything. As far as a "is it Mike Lee/is it the defense" argument, its both. Our taem needs to take care of their defensive assignments but Jesus, Mike Lee needs to steal more game than one for us in his first two years. He was supposed to be a world-beater, and right now he's about the 4th or 5th best goalie I've seen in ten years. That's not too complimentary.

I hope you are right regarding the Final Five. But you're making a defensive argument as to which visiting ice we would have the best chance of winning. That's not a promising proposition. I agree that our best chance of advancing to the F5 would be to play at The John as opposed to traveling to CC, UNO or Madtown. But looking at our current Pairwise position and essentially making the argument that we hopefully sneak into a play-in-game, tells you a lot about this season and its eventual outcome.

Unless we go on some SICK run, we just became Mankato, Michigan Tech or Anchorage; REALISTICALLY the NCAAs are over, now let's just finish strong, have some pride (remember, I know some people will say "either way the outcome of the season's the same, but to potential recruits if we finish 7th or 8th and win a road playoff series looks a lot better than finishing 10th and going down like a sack of bricks in the playoffs), and finish as best as we can so we've got some momentum and something to look forward to next year.

And I'll admit, I realize that this and all of my posts after this weekend are going to be negative, so before somebody starts trying the "well if you're giving up on them, then go away" save it. I just dropped way more than I was expecting to in Omaha, so my road trips are done for the year, but I'll be watching the aways on b2 and probably make one or two of the UW and UND games. Talking bad about your team is not the same as abandoning them. I wish right now I could see in cardinal in black tinted glasses, but the Mavericks just broke my last pair.
