SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

Re: SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

I don't think we need to worry about that happening.....

That's cryptic. What are you referring to, specfically?

1) The SC Times' jounalistic standards would preclude them from pursuing the story? (i.e. dismiss the allegations as hearsay and not repeat)

2) The SC Times is afraid of SCSU and would not want to bite the hand that feeds them?

3) The SC Times has a vested interest in protecting SCSU and it's hockey team, and the relationships they have with the coaches?

4) The SC Times is too incompetent to notice this story or care about it.

How did you guess all 4 answers correctly???

Re: SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

But if the St. Cloud Times decides to repeat the Florida allegations, then I think St. Cloud needs to be ready to respond to it.
I think if there's any chance of litigation, then SCSU will be all over it.

One mistake that fans make is assuming that players, even 21 year-old players can drink all they want or anytime during the season. Many schools have rules prohibiting drinking during the season, on specific nights or on road trips. Depending on the school, rules are enforced by the Athletic Department, enacted due to liability concerns and conduct is a condition of their scholarships or financial aid. Every Athletic Department has ironclad rules regarding behavior on road trips.

It doesn't sound like that is the case at SCSU where the fanbase has largely adopted the stance of "what's the big deal".

Of course, and thats because the fanbase won't be sued if an accident occurs.

SCSU's Athletic Department isn't just beholden to the hockey program. They have 15+ other sports to run and hundreds of student athletes out on roadtrips on any given weekend. The rules are designed to protect the school from potential lawsuits and protect the athletes from harm.

The SCSU beat writer sucks and doesn't dig into anything. In fact the story in the Times with quotes from the school president wasn't done by the teams beat writer. He is to much of a weenie to say anything...

So what you're saying is that he takes his lessons from Mike Chambers.

Chambers is no weenie. He's had a number of difficult recent periods with DU because he's been very aggressive in his reporting of things like the Gwozdecky contract extension impasse and the Jesse Martin injury. I'd say he's on a par with Andy Baggot in Wisconsin as one of the more objective reporters in the WCHA.

Aside from last season when he proclaimed DU one of the best college teams ever...before the first puck was even dropped on the season.
And the checklist thing at the end of the season was quite funny as well. ;) :)

Re: SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

If you discount all those instances where he was partial towards Denver, Mike Chambers is rather impartial!

Re: SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

Go back three years to the Brock Trotter fiasco. Chambers makes the SC Times guys look like Woodward and Bernstein.

Re: SCSU 2010-2011 Season Thread- Frozen Four or Bust

The Brock Trotter "fiasco" was 'under-reported' because the school managed to control the story very well. As a private school, no one from DU would go on record about what really happened, because it was a internal school discipline matter and they aren't allowed to quote on those in public (private school). And since the matter was not a police matter or was there anything of public record, there wasn't much Chambers else could say in print without printing hearsay or rumor. Trotter signed and left school before anything could be permanently adjudicated within the school process.
