Scoreboard

Refs have a tough challenge in D1 hockey. There is a big gap between the standards of international (US/Cda games) and D3 hockey (if someone goes down, call a penalty). If you can, watch a replay of the Clarkson / RPI game where the refs let a lot of tough hits go. Clarkson didnt seem to like the approach but I think that it was close to the international standard.

Stone apparently said the refs are easing off, as if it were a policy thing.

But, what’s with the whistle at 00:00? Ignore the boarding and call out the tardiness?

Uconn swept BC I’m pretty sure but UConn’s website says they split and now reflects an incorrect record for the team. I’m sure it’ll get fixed but it’s a lot of sleuthing to figure out what happened.

Nice job by the Lakers getting a split with Penn State. Keeps things interesting in the CHA. Hurst is off again next week.

Tommies beat Lindenwood last night 4-1.
Clarkson beat SLU 5-4 in OT. SLU outshot them, Clarkson without Haley Winn.

This weekend:
4th ranked Colgate plays Harvard and Dartmouth.
7th ranked UMD plays St Cloud.
8th ranked NU vs BC. I suspect NU is without Maureen Murphy for Rivalry Series.
9th ranked Cornell also plays Dartmouth and Harvard. Probably no Rory Guilday due to Rivalry Series.
10th ranked Providence vs UConn.

Rest of the top ten is off. Colgate was ranked sixth just a week ago; I don’t think they’ll move to 1 no matter what they do this weekend. But the OSU Colgate game in a couple weeks is setting up nicely.

BC NU is on ESPNU.

Providence beat Northeastern 3-0 tonight. 2 power play goals and an empty net goal.

Canada USA starts now on NHL network. Giguere making her senior national team debut.

USA defeats Canada in a shootout after a 3-3 tie. Fun to watch the energy and excitement of the young ones on both sides. Roque’s emotions seemed to get the better of her as she whined and did diving impressions about Poulin getting a penalty shot after an obvious Roque trip. She’s not at her best when she’s in whiner mode, imo.

14,551 in attendance at Climate Pledge Arena for todays rivalry game, a new record on US soil. John Forslund and Alison Lukan on the call. Last record was set in 2020 in California.

Hilary Knight has 2 goals and an assist tonight, USA up 4-2 in the third. She’s so good!

US on another power play with less than five minutes left. Knight is feelin it, putting on moves we haven’t seen in years from this ol power forward. Would love to see her get a hatty . It’d be fitting to see her do it in front of this crowd, exhibition or not. Either way what a night for the USA GOAT.

And the game ends 4-2 with Poulin yelling at Knight for a perceived slight. She is also the best.
Would love to have that audio track! The refs had to step in to make sure all the yelling didn't erupt into an all-out brawl. Anyway, it was a great game until that last penalty put the game out of reach for the Canadians.

The Lakers have taken up hockey again and defeated SLU 6-4. Shots were 55-35 SLU due to a lopsided second period shots wise. Nystrom in net for the Lakers, goals from Boucher, Pedersen (2), Johansson (3).

Halfway through the 2nd period the Buckeyes are up 5-0 over Colgate.
The Raiders are attempting a comeback from a deeper hole today; now 5-2.

Meanwhile, SLU salvaged a split by that same 5-2 score.

1-0 Yale after 2 periods, vs Mercyhurst. Goal by Yale’s Boucher.

Doesn’t seem like Mortlock is playing for Hurst, wonder what’s up there.

3-1 final for Yale. Upson scores in the dying seconds for the Lakers. Really nice behind the back pass by Welch on Yale’s third goal.

Hartje (Yale) and Perreault (Lakers) both had great energy and forechecking throughout the game. Didn’t seem like Seitz played for Yale. These teams play again tomorrow before Lakers get a day off and then off to Post for 2 games.
