Uhh, Kep? Wasn't Virginia Dare, like, 1-2 years old when the colony disappeared? Ewww.

Now Eleanor (Virginia's mother) on the other hand...

Um. People grow up.

The point is the High Brow Klansmen who like to brandish Virginia as the emblem of white sainthood and why we should kick the Muzzies out (for, reasons?) never considered the obvious: that people are people and the colony merely assimilated into the native culture, probably taught them a few things, learned 100x more, left the Christian BS to rot, and got down to the basic human business of getting down.

My favorite part:

The fact that LD2 is fairly new to the inner reaches of the solar system suggests that it’s made of relatively pristine material that has been in the back of the solar system’s freezer for billions of years, unaltered by heat from the sun. That would make it a time capsule of the early solar system. Studying its composition could help planetary scientists learn what the first planets were made of.

Let's go get it. Nom nom nom.

After tonight's Mets games and news and with November hopefully approaching, right now I believe in our species again.

Watching the DNC gave me that tiny glimmer of hope. I just felt like as dark as it’s getting and will continue to get, we have room to hope for the future.

And I didn’t realize just how devoid of hope I’d been the last several months. It hit me like a pallet of uranium. Very emotional.

I figured this fits here, I guess?
After 38+ years, I just realized today I'm left eye dominant after going to the hotel room door and naturally using my left eye to look through the hole.

I write right handed, play hockey left, switch hit in softball but have more power right, drive and chip right but putt left, throw right but catch equally with both, and shoot guns right with right eye aiming.

I've never tried shooting guns left handed or aiming right handed with my left eye but I've always been super accurate shooting right handed using my right eye. Even hitting match sticks with a BB gun from 10ft away recently.

Anyone else have this weird collection of left/ right? I always assumed my ability to bat from both sides of the plate was because I had practiced extensively as a kid hitting tape balls left handed but maybe it's a left/ right dominant eye thing?

Do you talk liberal out of the left side of your mouth but vote R with your right hand?

I do precision functions (drawing, writing) lefty and power functions (throwing, chopping) righty. I experimented with switch hitting and picked it up almost immediately but I was a high K power hitter righty and a high average singles hitter lefty. I drive righty, putt lefty, and can't short iron worth a f-ck either way. It may all be exacerbated because I am blind in the right eye.

A neurologist told me precision lefty and power righty (me) is about 1% of the population, and precision righty and power lefty (you) is about 0.1% of the population, and that it has nothing to do with your physicality and everything to do with the way your brain is wired. It also correlates with high incidences of addictive behavior, creativity, genius, mental illness, and suicide.

So we have that going for us. Which is nice.

I learned to bat lefthanded and my contact rate was much better, but I gave up a bit of power. My right eye had much stronger vision until I had lasik.

Another way I have heard it described is above (similar to power) and below (similar to precision) the waist. But things like hockey reverse that, so I like power vs precision better.

Dominance and power are typically the same side (as with me) but not always. For example, you block with your off hand so you can counter punch with your dominant hand, but some people are reversed which I can't fathom. It's like they are thinking primarily as catchers rather than throwers.

I have no idea if there are gender differences.

Were you ever as comfortable lefty? I always felt that righty was natural and lefty was an instrumentality. As a righty that bat is part of my arm, as a lefty it's a tool.
