I guess the "backswards" typo doesn't warrant highlighting...after all, it was perpetrated by a fellow Canadian so...hush hush. :D As an American, I'm unfamiliar with the word "backswards."

What the frig does that have to do with me? I already said I'm just as bad. Yikes! You always try to be prim and proper, that's all. How are the KID'S? Just a question that many more on here are wondering about. Why such the huge interest and following? You have no kid's. Where is the passion coming from? Grands or what? :)

Re: Sayonara - Wayne State

A question one never sees asked when the topic is men's sports.

Yes if women's hockey had more fans (with or without kids) threads like this one wouldn't even exist.

As men's program's have been dropped (i.e., Wayne State) and many fans think more will fall after the B1GHC forms, it is likely threads like this will still exist even if women's hockey had as many fans as men's hockey. Let's just hope that they are few and far between.

Why ask "How are the kids" if you know I don't have any? Where's the curiousity with that coming from? All those "wondering" about the source of my passion and considerable interest can keep right on wondering. Do you actually believe I owe you, and them an explanation? I really don't feel any obligation to explain my interest...not that it should be a mystery to any other sports fan. You're aware there are others within the forum that have an interest at least equal to my own, who also don't have children...maybe if you and the many others are equally curious and consumed with the source of their interest you could inquire as to why they follow the sport with passion.

*** does any of this have to do with Wayne State?

I figured a guy with 20000 posts here might want to do some talking. I find it interesting, your interest. Maybe if you explain it, it might help women's hockey in some sort of way. Why don't you give it a shot, people might love it. It just might be the opportunity you've been waiting for. I agree with the posters above. :)

I was planning on watching the Indy 500 this weekend, as I'm a pretty passionate motorsports fan as well. Actually attended on several occasions...but I don't have any kids so I'm not sure it's appropriate for me to watch. I remember the last few times I attended...when each time, I was accosted by several others in attendance who were confounded by my interest in the race when they discovered I had no children. :)

In all honesty, anyone...anyone at all who is a fan of sports, including hockey and women's hockey in particular should have no difficulty whatsoever in understanding my intense interest in the sport. Those that seem to believe having children is required to have an interest in the sport would be the ones that have some explaining to do IMO.

But has a college mens' or womans' program that fills their arena to the rafters ever been dropped? As someone else said above it's all about money, and I suspect if the mens' and womens' programs at Wayne State were rolling in the dough for the school's athletic department they would both be very much alive today. The trouble is, with womens' hockey in particular, very few - if any - programs are currently profitable due to low attendance, and of all womens' sports hockey is among the most expensive to operate.

You must understand that your comparison is nothing more than apples and oranges. I would hazard to guess that interest on these boards may be about 90-99 % people that have a connection with kid's or family. There may be a few journalists, and then a few like you. If you can't see why it is unusual or fascinating, then I'm an idiot. Having said that, I still would be interested in hearing how you got involved. Really. :) It's your chance to shine buddy. You are male, correct?

I've wondered why people will not go to games also. Lot's of students go to football games to cheer for the team, and they probably haven't strapped anything on in their life. Why wouldn't they support hockey? I may be a little biased, as I have a daughter playing, but the hockey is great to me, I was a player myself. This is precisely why I want Brooky to shed some light on the topic. We're missing something here. What can be done to stop another WSU from happening?

Depends on what football games. The simple reason regarding hockey is in the Detroit area unless it's the Wings they don't support hockey unless they have some connection to that team. It's not the same hockey culture as say Can or MN. Wonder if they sold beer at the WSU games since it's not on campus?

Ah..."buddy?" And for some reason I thought I was just a "DA." For the games I attend, you underestimate the number of "the few like me" by a considerable margin. I think you underestimate those numbers in this forum as well. The difference would be I don't make any distinction among fans with an interest in the sport and don't understand what I consider a bizarre need to imagine there must be some "unusual" distinction at work. For the record, I am not motivated by or interested in an opportunity to "shine." ;)

How about a little respect for those more personally involved and suffering related to the topic of this thread? I think that's more appropriate than your strange obsession. :)

Strange obsession, now that is funny. You have 20000 posts here and I am obsessive. You also choose to hide when you sign in, that is weird. Curious, I would have taken you as a demolition derby kind of a guy rather than a cart guy. Maybe even Nascar. Well, if you do not wish to help out in this experiment, maybe you can pay double the next time you attend a game. The girls will appreciate it. :)

Yes, I have over 19,000 posts, and yes, you have a strange obsession with that as well as my interest in women's hockey...you are strange. What is the significance of a forum members post total? Are you as strangely curious and obsessed with those who have 50,000 posts...100,000 posts?

You also choose to hide when you sign in, that is weird.
Why? What's weird about it. It's actually extremely weird to care about something that insignificant, or be so deeply disturbed by the simple use of invisible mode.

It's long been extremely clear you grossly overestimate your powers of perception and ability to reason soundly. Being a cart guy doesn't indicate a lack of interest in Nascar or a good demo derby. I think I'll stick with face value for game tickets even though I won't be assisting you with your experiment. But thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion. :) If I come across a willing guinea pig I'll be sure and send 'em your way!

Edit: I felt badly for not having been completely honest in a comment contained within this post and so thought a correction was called for. I haven't actually purchased a ticket for a game in nearly two seasons as I've been a guest of a player for both home and away games. A player who is an outstanding member of the Minnesota Golden Gophers and a fine young citizen as well...and a great asset to the University of Minnesota and Minneapolis community.

You're still not being honest. The only reason you came back to edit is because of your concern that someone you know may read it and call you on it. Cheap son of a gun. For a seemingly intelligent person, you certainly eat a lot of foot. :D Now you're going to have to make a considerable donation to make up for being a DA. Put it down in the name of the Canadian contingent on the team. :)

How 'bout I make a donation to the "Get DS CanHockGuy a Brain Fund?" :) Deal? ;)

Now we're getting somewhere. Beer definitely would have helped. All the junior rinks and many of the privately owned rinks in the Toronto area have it, and it really makes a difference. The kid's would soak it up and money could be raised. Brilliant! :)

I don't know Brookyone or you, but I must say that I find your inquiries about his/her interest to be needless and inappropriate. Who the hell cares why someone is interested, whether they have family or not. It's a public forum in America US college hockey and we even allow Canadians because I don't know, we're big on free speech that way. Certainly you're free to your opinion too but geez really do you have to drag this out. Give it a rest already, enjoy the game, get involved, read up, post away but wow. Really give it a rest pls for the sake of the rest of us.
