RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Just as a spark of curiosity, does this cheer have something to do with some of us wanting Al to announce "even strength"?

And yea, from the stage, I had to yell "Bye bedwetters!"
I'm not familiar with the cheer. What is it?

What's interesting is that this announcement is not usually made throughout most of the hockey world.

Al: "[insert team] returns to full strength."
Crowd: "That's debatable!"

Hence why we'd like to try to push for "even strength" to be announced.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Is anyone from the Albany area headed to Cornell on Saturday? I have a car, am willing to drive, and have some place to stay that night. Just like for someone to split gas money with.

If you are, respond here, or leave me a rep, and we could exchange e-mails.

All of this hullabaloo about that?

Arguing about "that's debatable". Monty Python would be proud.

No they wouldn't! :D

I'll be at both games, but am going from Syracuse. There's a Winter Storm Warning expiring at 1PM around here for Friday, so if anyone is going to the Colgate game, be careful when you drive out. The trip for the Cornell game shouldn't be TOO bad, though, but do be careful along I-81, because it can get ot be a little crummy of a drive.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Let me preface this by saying that I fully expect us to win tomorrow night.

However, If the bye question is settled against us on Friday, I hope York is rested on Saturday. I think we'll be fine with Merriam in there but don't see the upside in risking York's ankle to finish 5th instead of 6th. I know this means we could face Union before Albany but... you never know what could happen to the 5th seed against Clarkson - especially if that seed is SLU.

The argument about full strength not being debatable is because the opposing team is at as full of strength that they can be at that time, without any regard to a comparison of strength between them and us. I understand this concept, but will still yell "That's Debatable!" because of the old saying of what to do when in Rome. ;) This is why there's a push to have "even strength" be announced, because that results in a comparison of strength between them and us, and is, without question, debatable.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

I understand what they are trying to imply with their cheer, and that doesn't make it any better. When the initial reaction to a cheer is "W.T.F? That's stupid...", maybe it's time to rethink it. Heckling other fans may make the heckler look like an a**hole, but using stupid chants makes everyone look like an a**hole.

Well said.

As much as I despise Fat Mike and his marauding pack of clutch and grab goons  :p, that argument has merit. If nothing else, it might give Seth pause heading into Sat. night.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Apparently Chase Polacek hasn't been a "go to guy" !? Amazing.

He also isn't a Blackhawks draftee. ;)

Plus, look at the amount of scoring Paul Kerins and Marty O'Grady have done. Not to mention, the number of goals Chase has on the power play. Who is on the ice at the same time and most likely gave assists, let me think.....

FD, do you have an extra ticket for Lynah? I had a friend at Cornell try to grab me a ticket, but they sold out by the time he got to the window. eLynah's ticket request forum is already inundated and the HFH is out of their allotment.

I do not; I got my ticket through an alumni event. :( Do you not have one, or just one of your friends?

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

I'd say at this point you're SOL. And as much as I can have a friend get a ticket via an e-mail list for you, I would not subject you to unfavorable territory.

Stay in touch with the RPI box office as well as the Alumni / Let's Go Red folks....you never know when someone will turn in a ticket or have a change in plans.

I actually want to go to the game on Saturday because I've never been to Lynah, and I want to see what all the fuss is about (I mean, really, how great could a crappy 53-year old barn be? :p). Well, that and the potential for an awesome game with huge playoff implications.

I'll e-mail the alumni coordinator and see if I can get some info on if a ticket has opened up. Could you IM me an e-mail address so I can CC you on it?

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Apologies - as this has absolutely nothing to do with RPI - but it appears that another longstanding Olympic tradition is being upheld...that being fraternization.:D

Apparently organizers have ordered an emergency airlift of condoms to the Olympic village, as the initial supply of 100,000 has run out.

If I didn't know better, I'd say DocD has made a road trip ! :D
