RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Yup-and the refs have been horribly inconsistent with their calls about interfereing with the goaltender. York has been hit, nudged, plowed into for 120 minutes now and there has hardly been anything called. But if we do it, of course it's a different story.

I noticed that after covering the puck York started leading with his stick to let the brownies know he was ready to give as good as was getting. Also, JFK had two long conversations with Feola following pile ups in our net.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

I had a great angle on that play, and it was Pirri. He and the Brown player were going hard after the puck. They got there at the same time and Pirri made the hit (a clean hit) to take the Brown player off the puck.
A play that I must have seen thousands of times in hockey games, and nothing is called.
At that point, I was beginning to believe that Baker had something in for Pirri.
That was nothing more than a "hockey play".
Very poor officiating all night long.
Completely agree. Pirri was guilty of hustling back, nothing else. Appert went over to the "Addessa Drive Thru" window in the penalty box to let Pirri know it was all good as far as he was concerned.

Great to see Cullen score a goal last night, his first in 17 games. :) Dang Id love to see him go on a tear. I have a feeling he's one of the players thats gonna have a break out season for us next year with it all starting in the playoffs this year. Now go prove me right Pat. :D Lets Go Red!!

Absolutely right RH...his goal was very nice....curled around from behind the net..held the puck as he drifted in and then let it rip.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

I believe you get the same refs for all 3 nights unless Whiny Mike is involved, as was previously stated.

I think this is correct. Knowing the el-cheapo ECAC, they won't want to pay for another crew to drive in for the day.

I would note that Pirri's last penalty occurred when he entered the fray to get the Brownies out of our crease. On that play, one of our guys -- I wanna say Bergin -- drilled a Bruno into our net hard. That's how it needs to be -- every time.

I'd prefer it if Bergin wasn't throwing people on top of Allen York. :)

I still didn't see where Pirri did anything on that pile up. He was the only forward that appeared to not be involved in a scuffle at all.

I believe the call was regarding him tearing the Brownie's helmet off...

Totally didn't see that. This is one time where the audio being mixed with the video online makes us seem like total dummies. More than usual anyhow. :D

Are you on the call today again, Joe? We might be able to get you a monitor, or you could watch the feed on a laptop (approx 6 second delay; enough to get a quick replay by glancing at it).

We had a laptop working up there last night, but we have to put it on the table behind us. There's no way safe to prop it up in front of us unfortunately.

The delay works out well enough because while I'm talking at least Tim can get a look at the play and set the record straight if need be.

Saw the scrum like everyone else, and the brown player's helment came off. However, I dont remember facemask violation in the list of penalties when I used to play, must be a new one like kneeing and embellishment.

Anway I thought Pirri played pretty inspired, loved his hustle to the loose puck that led to his slapshot goal, we need more of this tonight from everyone to put a pesky Bruno squad away.

I think RC should stand up there and hold the laptop for you..

Absolutely, if he can channel the frustration of being "profiled" (as one of the guys in my section aptly called it) he will be a lot of turning heads

Yeah, the catwalk is not the safest place for computers. :D

Rooting for you guys tonight. Unless there's another upset going on either in Canton or Hamden, in which case I'm rooting for Bruno.

Tearing is a bit extreme, there, Doc. He was pulling the Brown forward away from the net. Unintelligently, he decided to use the neck / head / face to take him away. That chinstrap must have been really loose for the facemask to come off so easily.

I thought JFK would get the matching for pushing #18 onto York. I didn't see Bergin's interaction with the opposing forward, so I can't judge those penalties.

Let's not encourage the boys to start roughing it up unnecessarily. We already have a bad reputation and there's no need to encourage this reputation. Plus, our speed is the best way to beat the clutchy / grabby Bears.

If we keep allowing an opponent to run York, then we run the risk of a) losing Allen to an injury and b) appearing as patsies to our opponents...neither is an acceptable option, IMO.

I understand and agree, WS. But, there's a line between retaliating and being reckless. I advocate one, and not the other.
