RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Look, I'm trying to be civil here because that's what I do. If you want to be a tool about it, I'm not responsible for the outcome.

I don't know what you're talking about with the "calling up a post from almost 2 weeks ago." I'm talking about a post you made THIS EVENING.
Your post about a losing streak would suggest a series of losing arguments, so I decided to look up my last post before this whole chant disagreement, which was almost 2 weeks ago, and you sort of disagreed with. I mistakenly believed that you were referring to that, so that's my bad. However, I would still like to know how my comment towards hawthr is a complete failure.

Who's the arbiter of what's stupid? You?

Sure, I will decide what's stupid. My decisions will be as valid as any of hawthr's "commandments".

Perhaps all cheers have to have "sucks" in them to be understood then.

Actually, I think we have plenty of "sucks" cheers already. Producing new "sucks" cheers would show a lack of creativity. Feel free to try new chants/cheers, but since I am now the self-proclaimed "Arbiter of what is Stupid", do not continue the ones that I disapprove of, unless you want to be deeply hurt by scathing personal insults like

"I can't believe you're so dumb"

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

So how about we all as a group of RPI fans keep it about the team and not other members of the board. After all we are fighting for a first round bye. Check the egos at the door. If you were wrong ok it happens, if you were right great but this thread is about our team that we follow and support with all we have. If I make anyone upset with this oh well.

I agree...

You know what's stupid? Stifling creativity. That's stupid.

It's fans like you that are the ones that cause problems. They're cheering. That means they're engaged. It doesn't matter what they're saying. In fact, from now on, if it makes you mad, that makes me happy. I hope the First Church comes up with even more "stupid" cheers, just to **** you off. The "stupider" the better, you guys.

Angry, spiteful and spot on.

Approved.

I will take your suggestion under advisement but I make no guarantees. If Kronojon wants to continue to act the fool, I can't guarantee that I won't continue to laugh at him.

Beman must be feeling off the hook, eh? :D

I agree with your philosophy. We should be nice to each other, but sometimes answering a challenge is necessary.

I've got two eyes.

If Kronojon were a fan of any other team I would have lit him up by now. But that doesn't mean he's allowed to decide what cheering is OK and what cheering isn't OK.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Weep, for Sullivan has chosen us to beat Colgate.

Also, picked up this interesting little factoid:

If Colgate beats Rensselaer on Friday, the Dutchmen get the head-to-head tiebreaker.

So I guess Union's rooting for Colgate. :p

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

A couple of startling revelations from Jerry D'Amigo's dad on the RPISPORT-L.

Also, the comment about his USA play being "electrifying", and the inference that his play at RPI since returning has been anything, but. That probably bothered my wife a little because two weeks ago she got a call at 3:00 am from Jerry and he was throwing up blood which eventually turned out to be food poisoning, and just last Thursday he sliced his finger down to the bone and was in the Emergency Room until 3:00 am with his roommate. Also, seeing some of the hits he's taken and listening over the radio that your son just got knocked out and taken off the ice is sometimes hard to take.

Oh yeah, and he gets run three times a game and the ECAC won't do squat about it.

And he hasn't missed a game since returning other than the one at Quinnipiac when he was at home recovering from the WJC.

Brass. Balls.

Fair enough Im just the new guy on the block here and dont want to offend or step on anyones toes. Just trying to keep things somewhat on topic. With this new found success the team is having after a couple down years we are gonna see more and more overzealous fans pop up here trying to law down the law on how to and not to cheer for our team. But as long as I can yell when a goal is scored and clap when a great check or play is made then I should be good to go in the cheering department.

It's all good. Glad to have you around.

I have always found it funny how people can bash the athletes that compete day in and day out about the way they are playing. I understand they make mistakes and might not play well on a certain night but I doubt a quarter of us could handle the pressure of playing hockey and going to a tough school like RPI. I have been guilty of making comments about how someone is playing but at the end of the day I respect the crap out of these kids who for 4 years of their young lives make us smile when times are good and make us fret and pull our hair out during bad times.

Jerry D'Amigo even before his outstanding WJC was one of my favorite freshman because of his hustle and grit. He could have came in with a chip on his shoulder being a draft pick but he didnt. He came in and has made himself better night in and night out. We can only hope he stays for more than 2 years so we can see him develop into a greater player than he is now. Sorry for the long rant.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

I think after I heard from the Union hit I saw that he was still going to play the next weekend, this player is something special. And I know we're talking a genuine hit, not a "Take the fall, act hurt, get indignant" like some teams I know. And after getting run so many times that even delivers a few hard hits.....

Jerry has a fierce set of bollocks.

Well said.

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

I actually want to go to the game on Saturday because I've never been to Lynah, and I want to see what all the fuss is about (I mean, really, how great could a crappy 53-year old barn be? :p). Well, that and the potential for an awesome game with huge playoff implications.

Burgie, if Flagdude's contact has two tickets I will gladly split gas. Let me know.
