RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

:D
You're 100% right we have lacked a guy to go to the tough spots on the ice. Where's ESPO when you need him.
Just the fact that you'll likely have two forwards on separate lines weighing in at better than 6' 200lbs +...both love to mix it up and get to the net.....sheesh, its bringing tears to my eyes jsut thinking about it.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

I don't think anyone is saying he should be replaced, at least not yet. I personally just don't think they have been outplaying their skill level recently. The coaches job is to figure out ways to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.
I agree with all three statements. We just haven't really played as a team well. Beating Clarkson last year was good, but IMO we were not the favorite only because we had not played that well during the season. IMO we had the better players all year.

There's always Hill Street :D
Oooh my, don't bring up Hill Street. They had a barmaid there a few years back who slayed me-- devastatingly beautiful. Oh yeah, the beer and wings aren't bad either. :p

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

We are still talking about guys who graduated/left 2 or more years ago right? Ok, just checking to make sure. Once again, I will present the question to all those who want coach appert removed from his position, who is out there to take over? Don't give me a wish list full of big name coaches who would most likely never come to Troy. Give me some actual names and what they have done.

Nobody's put up the "Fire Appert" thread (at least recently). We understand that this is his first time as head coach, and that it's a learning experience for him. We've been spoiled with a lot of things, such as gifted talent in York, Polacek, JDA and Pirri, also with true leadership in guys like MacDonald (yes I'm going back THAT far) and Kennedy. It's the sorts of years we had in 2008-09 and last year that truly define a coach, when the chips are down. How do we respond?

I'm being serious, I totally agree with your post except the stuff where you go after me. SA is going nowhere. The caliber of player has improved no doubt.

Bad day at the office so my apologies for going after you. Just tired of hearing those names thrown around like they could have done something to change last years results. But thats just me, I dont like thinking what ifs. If this conversation is going a totally different direction then where it should, I will just stop now. :)

One thing I just do not understand, though... only counting the years in which I've followed RPI hockey (i.e. from 2004-05 on), the only times we have won a playoff series is during our absolutely worst seasons. Someone explain that to me. The thought that we have nothing to lose? Kepler's third law? Something else?

We scored more goals and won more games than our opponent on that weekend. Simple as that. No need to think deep on that. :)

When you ask a silly question...

The true blame for our crap power play lies at the feet of E. Stewart Jones.

Not to bring up something a bit crass, but I think we can all safely assume that the Big Red are blushing a little extra redder than usual today.

Unless of course this belongs in the puns thread...

Not looking to get booted off the forum or anything haha, but if you do some research their library has been getting a lot of action lately. Be warned that whatever you find while looking could quite likely be nsfw.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Great take Doc. I didn't mean to omit Tinordi. I flat out love the kid...he changes the tone on the ice every time he goes over the boards. FWIW - as per the roster, Zalewski is 2" taller and 10# heavier than the Tin Man.:D
I am certainly not the expert having seen the team play in person only a few times in the past 2 years. But you have Tinordi pegged right. He is a player who actually plays bigger than he is. The times I have seen him, he has been a rock out there. We have not been blessed with much size and toughness up front and it just appears to be a necessity in Div I play. I have been awaiting the arrival of the Zman and can not wait to see how he fits in the role of a power forward. Let's get this season going already-"Klytus, I'm Bored!!!"

Never a need for an apology. Your takes are always good. When our great coach got the job Andy Murray, (West. Mich, former NHL coach), Cavanaugh (long time asst at BC) and Donnie Vaughn were being considered. Coach after the NCAA bid had an opportunity to move on and he stayed here. You are spot on. I'm glad he did and believe that this season will have many thrilling victories. You always get my back. God bless.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

For as many years as i can remember-I have kept hoping that we would concentrate more on having effective special teams. Having a potent power play and being able to defend well short handed just seems to decide so many games. I am not sure how many minutes are spent either a man up or a man down per game-but often that makes the difference.

Absolutely agree - Isn't having a deadly power play something that has distinguished Union over the past several years ?? ;)

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Totally agree. We need look no further than across town to Union. Their special teams have been excellent for the past two years. Their PP was lethal last season.

Oopps - sorry WS. Posted my comment before getting to this.... Still agree though !!

Sometimes it doesn't even have to show up in the box score so much-often times just having good special teams can alter the style of game and how the opposition is forced to play.

I tried to win enough money at the track this summer to sponsor the power play this year, but sadly, NYRA got the best of me.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Could you explain? I googled his name and found out that he is a local lawyer.

Sponsored the power play last year. It was the E. Stewart Jones Power Play. Had a clever video showed in between periods with Coach Appert wishing the team luck.
