RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

My job on campus is calling alums for the Annual Fund - I've mentioned the streaming to anyone who I talked to about hockey who lives too far away to go to games. :D I hope the streaming goes well this season and only gets better - I'll certainly be taking advantage of it in a couple years when I graduate if I'm not close enough for season tickets. :)

It did OK during the Brown playoffs a couple of years ago (although they weren't allowed to do that, and ended up getting fined for it), and there were a large number of people watching that. Granted, I'm sure that the staff will keep a close watch on attendance figures, as I'm sure some people think people won't go to the games because of this.

In speaking of this, has there been any discussion regarding playoff streaming? Obviously it's the ECAC that controls budget on that and not the school (hence the obscene price for playoff tickets), so it wouldn't surprise me if the league demanded stream revenue.

Hey, if you could let the other people who make the calls know about this as well, that would be awesome. I am setting it up so that we can stream to potentially thousands for some games.

I have recently graduated and I am not in the area anymore, so this is the way I am planning on watching everything.

I will tell my boss and she can probably include it in the announcements at shift! I think we only call Let's Go Red lists in the spring but it's still a good thing for people to talk about.

You weren't the one who called me a few days ago, were you?

I don't remember calling a Ralph Baer, but maybe? If you get called by RenXchange you can ask if I'm there, I suppose. :) I'm at shift quite a lot, I like talking to alumni and I like making money, so it works out well. I've come across a few men's hockey alums while on shift but none ever pick up. I did talk to one mom of a player from Class of 2003 today and she talked about how classy the people involved with RPI hockey are - I agree with her. :)

It looks to me like 17 to 20 wins. Our goaltending needs to get much! much! much! better. If that in fact does happen and our goaltender can steal a couple of games for us I could easily see 20+ and a deep run in the playoffs but thats a big if because our talent @ that position is very young and can as easily give one away as they can steal one. I really don't see talent at any position being an issue we have both talent and now size throughout the line up. So the question is "Compete Level" for the younger guys how quick can they get up to speed ?. I look for us to have some good weekends and some bad weekends in the first half, but if we start stringing some wins together approaching the Christmas break thats going to be an indicater. If that happens we may all be pleasantly surprised and I stress IF ! Another indicater is we need to be a much better team @ Home last year we were a good road team and our biggest wins came on the road (Clarkson playoffs,Colgate,Cornell series etc.) we absolutly need to start getting it done @ home think of the winable games we gave away and the games we didn't even show up for at home last year and what our season would have look liked if we had taken care of business ! Lets Go Red !!!!!!!!

Mom raised no fool. I believe that we will be in the Top 20 part of the year. Most likely second half because we are still young and need to get cred from voters. I think Haggs, McGowan are on track for monster years. I look to see the progression of JL and Zach. I think they are going to be good Engineers. The whole story is goaltending. I expect Diebold to be in net the majority of the time. His effort at Colgate was awesome and I think he's going to earn it. I expect Bailen to be like he was in his Soph campaign. He took alot on his shoulders last year and I hope he plays his game without putting too much pressure on himself. But again, it's all about the goaltending because we outplayed Union last year in playoffs and didn't win. We need somebody to make the big saves!!!! I'm totally pumped. I think this is the most talented bunch of guys since the 80's. As I'm sure you all know, I have total faith in our great Coach.

I don't remember calling a Ralph Baer

There actually is no such person. The person who posts under that name uses it to protect his identity. Nobody would ever use their real name on a board.

It probably wasn't since whoever it was asked if I had been to RPI recently, and I said i was there a year ago and was going again in a few weeks to see a hockey game (actually two). I suspect that you would have reacted to that.

Yes, I would have. :D Well, I'm definitely looking forward to the tailgate! (and just the start of hockey season in general!)

The reason that I did it, and it isn't a good reason, is that when I started, I wanted everyone who knew me from the Hockey_L mailing list to know who I was, and just about everyone there uses their name. I don't use my real name anywhere else that I post.

I remember you telling tb and I this story at Babo's shindig. Just having fun with you.

In honor of Johnny Rogic and Jenn Godin, today is 24 September 2012. There are 12 days until RPI's next game.
There are also only 18 days until the tailgate. :D

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is scheduled.

I use mine. I legally changed it years ago for business purposes.:)

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Interesting post. I do remember whilst at a "road" game at Union last year thinking that even though their setup sucks, Union had a better pre-game fan experience. I know it doesn't exactly go along with the history of the program, but something to engage fans a bit more, along with not losing the first umpteen home games would likely draw bigger crowds. A full HFH is a fun HFH. That and a **** band stand. Its an engineering school, you'd think someone with the power to make it happen would realize how awful the band sounds when projecting out of the corner of and echoing around a big concrete bucket.

Give it up. It's not happening. You're new, so you haven't heard us go over this repeatedly. The stage is not coming back. There will eventually be something constructed in that end, but unless the school gets a big donation for something different, it's going to be nothing more than a workout room and another luxury box.

Given they have some chick spend five hours doing one anthem and throws them into section 13 like yesterday's trash, I don't think that the staff even cares about the band any longer. I'm just sorry you guys don't get to perform on the same stage that Bon Jovi once played on.

Not new, just previously primarily a lurker. My main point is that the fan experience at the HFH has a lot of room for improvement.
