RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Given they have some chick spend five hours doing one anthem and throws them into section 13 like yesterday's trash, I don't think that the staff even cares about the band any longer. I'm just sorry you guys don't get to perform on the same stage that Bon Jovi once played on.
Interesting that you picked Bon Jovi of all of the people who ever concerts there. :)

Not new, just previously primarily a lurker. My main point is that the fan experience at the HFH has a lot of room for improvement.

Given that they tore out a row of seats for us and installed lights so we could see our music, I think the staff cares about us plenty. The reason we are where we are is because Appert thinks we better serve the team in the stands. We are louder on the ice, and we are particularly loud on the opposing bench. This is at the cost of being quieter for the fans, but it's an unavoidable trade-off.

As for the shift to having a singer for the anthem, I'm pretty sure it was to cut down on the yelling of "RED!". I don't see their logic; it frees up the voices of a whole pep band who loves yelling the name of a certain color.

In any case, welcome to the wonderful world of posting, hrbrendan. Sorry my first response to you was so... curt.

I guess 50k/yr doesn't go as far as it used to haha. My money is on the switch to a singer being more related to the fact that from the far end of the building on the student side, the music being played by the band is very hard to hear (given that you're hearing both the original sound along with the echo/delay) which is not the best way to present the national anthem.

I don't see how you are louder on the ice from the top of 13. They should have put the stage just above the glass where you were. Its tough for the fans sitting close to you including several parents who have complained about the placement of the band. I'm guessing its more than Appert. The fan experience at HFH is terrible compared to years past and placement of the band is part of it.

I thought the band was better on the stage as well but I sit in section 9 so now they are facing us. It is a bit louder then when they were on the stage because of the projection coming right across the ice rather than straight up the ice. I really really really hope they have upgraded the sound system!!

I think Coach's reasoning was that there's no glass in the way, not to mention the edge of the building creates a bandshell of sorts. We did more than play music, though; we distracted the opposing goalie. Nothing like getting in their heads during warmup, either.

Lets go the route of the Valleycats. Pack the place, have a circus with a game thrown in and reap the monetary rewards. The 'Cats were very very good this year on the field so Im sure that helped in packing the place as well. I suggest we have Troyboy and AspyDad lead the fan cheers from a special luxury box built above the spot where the band used to be. It would be great.

For the football fans-RPI appears in the D3 national rankings for the first time in a while at number 32 with a total of 20 points.:)

See if we can coerce SAJ into giving them access to the throne. :D

I know someone who works in the Valley Cats org and they were actually down this year in attendance to previous years. I was there on TWC night when you could bring your cable bill to the box office and get 4 free tickets and you also got a free hot dog and soda with your ticket. The place was not even sold out!! Although the mayor characters are pretty funny and they did make an appearance at HFH last year one game that I remember.

We still do the sieve line (I've had my share of pucks lobbed at my face), and I doubt yelling through the glass really affected the goalie any more than yelling from on high does. He can certainly hear us better now.

I went to a game with my work and while we sat in the porch area in right field, the place was pretty full the night we went. Sure it wasnt a sell out but easily 3,000 if not more. Lots of families and groups. Could more be done to draw people to the HFH for games sure, but as Ive said before in Albany-Troy area you need a winning team on the ice/field to bring out the fairweather fans that live here.

Very true but my point was that the attendance was better last year when they had a losing record.

Don't laugh it's been discussed but people are afraid we will use it to yell at Refs.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

In honor of Bo Dolan and Alexa Gruschow, today is 25 September 2012. There are 11 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is scheduled.

I think you could play the character of the guy who runs around as, I believe, the Mayor of Troy. The one who is kind of tall and skinny with the big black hair do and glasses. You wouldn't even need the mask all you would have to do is put on some glasses!! :p
