Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Today is 29 April 2012. There are 160 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

There seems to be quite a bit of talk/rumors going around about new rinks being built at Colgate, RIT, UVM and even Bentley. Along with already completed new facilities at UMD, BSU, QU, Miami, Notre Dame and BU. Makes me wonder if RPI should have just went ahead and built a new rink instead of just making renovations to HFH. Just curious, does anyone have an estimated guess or know how much the renovations have cost so far? That figure will be getting much larger when they get around to replacing the seating and build up the east end.

I love HFH and all its history but a new rink would have been great to see. Maybe something similar to the one at Qpac or even Dartmouth.

A new rink would probably have less seating which would currently be only important for the BRF!, but if we ever start getting bandwagon fans again, it will be a problem. I do suspect that if those changes are also made that an entirely new rink might have been cost effective. RPI, as most colleges, regard most (all?) of its buildings as historic. It might have made sense financially to tear down the quad instead of renovating it several times since I was a freshman. Similarly with many of the old green-roofed academic buildings.

I believe that Paddy Cullen will win most improved at banquet on sat. Thoughts?

Yes, indeed. I think that you believe that. :p

My original thought was the Lee would get it, but since he won last year, perhaps Tinordi.

I don't think so. Had Tyler Helfrich received it last year, I'd agree with you, though. It may just be me, but PC seemed to "get back to even" this year after a couple of tough years from 2009-2011.

Tinordi would get my vote-but then again I have liked him since day one and expected a lot out of him.

I didn't expect much out of Tinordi.

There actually are quite a few who could win it depending upon the criteria used. Curadi could also win it.

I agree about Cullen.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

I think Tinordi should probably take it. His improvement, especially toward the end of the year was phenomenal. Curadi could have a case for it, but it depends on the improvement considered is based on past years or the beginning of this season.

Hello, Lugnut.

how did you do on your survey project about the location for the band?

I remember when his dad came up to play for the NY Rangers in 1987. I saw him play a couple times-he was one tough mother out there and just did not back down. I was very sorry the Rangers did not see fit to keep him. He averaged over 100 PIM per season for his entire career and i don't think I ever saw him back down from anyone. I tend to believe somewhat in hockey genetics and i think we have a good one who will only get better.

I have no idea who will get most improved, but if I had a vote it would go to Leboeuf. He did not impress me at all as a freshman, but he really stepped it up this year. JMO
