Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Had not heard that BC at MSG was a possibility but it would be fun. York usually isn't amenable to playing non-Ivies/non-Clarksons from the ECAC, AFAICT.
You weren't around, were you? :) See many posts starting with #661 this thread. The link is in #676.

The major changes in league affiliations will probably make it more difficult to get teams from the Big Ten, HEA and the NCHC (or whatever that Ken Ralph league is called) to come to Troy, especially at that time of year. With the students out of town and so much else going on locally – H.S. sports, Siena and UAlbany Hoops, etc. – you are not going to draw crowds to the Field House.
The only HEA teams you are likely to get would be Providence, Merrimack and perhaps UVM or UNH. The big-name Western teams will only come east to play Cornell, Harvard BC and BU. The RPI Tournament was a great event for many years, but its time has passed.
Just for the heck of it, I went back and looked over the box scores of all the tournament games dating back to the 1999-00 season. (thats as far back as CHS.net and uscho goes) From 1999-00 to 2003-04 the tournament was held in December, sponsored by HSBC and had crowds averaging around mid 3000s-4200. In 2004-05 the event was moved from December to November and thats when I see a pretty significant drop in attendance to the 2400-3000 range, its also when HSBC stopped sponsoring it.

Something else I noticed is that the caliber of schools involved really didnt change that much in this time period either. Even back in the early 2000's when the event was drawing well RPI was bringing in BGSU, PC, Northeastern, Notre Dame, QU, Merrimack, Wayne St., Mercyhurst, Colgate, Princeton, etc...

Seems like moving it to November did more harm than it did good, also not having a big sponsor probably didnt help either...

Today is 27 April 2012. There are 162 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Or you could explain it to me here and not force me to dig it up. There's that option.

Sure. Still Crazy posted a link to a post by a BC blogger that there was a rumor that RPI and BC would join BU and Cornell in 2013-14 in a doubleheader at MSG. Then many of us commented. Still Crazy was sad that Son-of-Still-Crazy will graduate from BC in 2013.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

The annual ACHA coaches convention officially starts today down in Florida. Could be some extra drama at this years meeting, be interesting to see if anything happens.

Adam Wodon was allowed by Paul Stewart to float a trial ballon that ECAC tourney will be in Placid.

BTW- Who besides Adam, Stewart and Hagwell thought AC was a good idea. C'mon Adam, time to stop touting the party line from the league office.
you should get together with RC & take turn reading previous posts. :D
