Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Agree on Polacek for sure. Not sure if i can say that about the others you mentioned-or even too many others from the past 5 years. Remains to be seen about our current roster-if last year's freshman can show progress, this good be a much better year.
Well, we can disagree. :) I also should have included Tinordi as one who IMO has significantly progressed.

Most NHL draft choices will remain with their repective NCAA college hockey teams..................unless the NHL teams are concerned about the development of their prospect.

True story. NHL teams put more value on college players than they used to, but if the player's development is behind the curve, they will pressure them to come out. Also comes down to the parental unit (see D'Amigo) seeing the value of staying versus going. Has little to do w/ grades, unless they know they're getting kicked out. Which from my data, is very hard to do at RPI if you contribute to the hockey program. I also worry about the extra perception with recruits that a) an NHL draftee has trouble getting ice time on a sub-par ECAC team and b) as Doc mentioned an atypical percentage of the draftees up and leave before their time is up.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Today is 23 April 2012. There are 166 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

FWIW, just glancing over the schedule again for next season and looking a bit into the future it seems the 2013-14 schedule could almost be complete.

2 - SCSU
2 - @WMU (assuming the home series that was slated for October gets moved to 2014-15)
2 - @Mercyhurst (assuming RPI will return the trip)
1 - BU
1 - UNH
1 - vs Union (RPI being the road team)
1 - possibly vs BC @MSG

Leaving just 2 games, maybe for a tournament, 2 game series against a team out west or a couple single games against HEA or AHA. (Personally, I wouldnt mind seeing the return of the RPI tournament in 2013.) Im hoping with more non-conference dates to fill, we will see an increased number of games against Hockey East teams in the years to come.

Would like to see Appert & Leaman possibly getting a game or two together for 13-14.

The RPI Tournament is dead, let's hope it stays dead. Bad teams, no crowd, no students, and usually no band. It is better to play a couple of games on the road or at a tournament that has the money to support a stronger field than RPI was able to attract the past 5-10 years. If someone was to revive an Empire Cup type event with four teams from NYS playing in Rochester, Syracuse, Utica or Albany, you might get a crowd.

For the 2012 -2013 or 2013 - 2014 season. Not sure what you consider "next year"

I don't know what the basis of rvd's knowledge is, but I do not see how his statement can possibly be read to mean anything other than the 2012-13 season.

I am sure taht he meant the upcoming season, but next year could mean either either that or the following one.

Given he said "100% coming", I would take that to mean the upcoming 2012-2013 season. We wouldn't be 100% about someone showing up in a future year.
