Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

I have heard from people on campus, though I never attended RPI, that the "***" on campus is nothing to write home about. Thus, guys might leave early because their girlfriends are out of state or in Canada. Guess we were lucky Bergin found a local girl and stayed as long as he did. If I say so myself she does have a good set of legs.

Oh, this is how it's going to be. OK.

Guess my surgery sabbatical wasn't long enough.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Today is 22 April 2012. There are 167 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

So sorry to ruin your ruminations. Please, continue. I'm looking forward to your discussions on the team's dietary regimen, or something.

Been there, done that.

Call me crazy, but don't people go to college in order to receive an education?

Pat is a great kid. Very classy young man and would always take time to say hello and shot the brezze. I got to know Pat's Dad who was a fixture at the west end of HFH. Jim was always kind to tb and I and we will miss him coming up to Sec. 9 and sitting with us for a Period. At road games, Jim would share stories from his old hockey days when we would sit with him...good times. God speed to Pat and Jimmy. All my best.
Share your sentiments. Pat was a huge asset to the program and it will be a big loss not only for his Hockey abilities but also the fact that he was a great kid ! I raised 2 daughters but if I had a son I would want him to be just like Pat. Im sure this move is in Patty's best interest and was well thought out. God speed to he and his family. AD and I will be keeping a close eye on his career and Im pretty sure at some point he will get his chance to get to the show ! Lets all hope he doesn't end up at Union sometime down the road. (there is a connection)

Great guy, great family but never lived up to hype. He's straight edge so I will drink a beer in his honor.

Apparently not. Just look at most of the college basketball and football teams along with some of the hockey programs.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

I may very well be in the minority, but I agree with this. A couple of draft picks is fine -- lets recruits know you are landing quality guys. But give me a Chase Polacek, Ryan Haggerty (or Jeremy Welsh) any day of the week. You bust your *** in D1 and you'll end up with more than one offer...never a bad thing.

Wicked-absolutely! Nice to get a couple of boys that the pros feel some excitement about early. More important to me is getting boys into the program who can show progress as they move up in class. These boys coming in are now often 20+ years old and what they show at the Division I NCAA level will determine what their hockey futures will be. Give me a Pothier or a Tapper or a Polacek or a Laing or any other of the undrafted players who can come in and just improve each year. My quandry is how much of the improvement is just the individual himself and how much is the program and the coaches. Is RPI beginning to be thought of as a program where the boys just do not progress?

Some don't appear to have progressed, but others certainly have. Very recently and currently, I would definitely say that Polacek, Malchuk, Lee, Merriam, and Dolan have progressed. Most of the freshmen also definitely progressed over the year. Some of the others, e.g., Helfrich, were held back a lot due to injuries.

Ooh I have waited for this moment...FD please pay attention to the thread and refrain from redundant posts. Ralph, please free to chastise FD for his lack of attention.

Look what happens when I spend too much time "campaigning" for Poser of the Year... :p

Agree on Polacek for sure. Not sure if i can say that about the others you mentioned-or even too many others from the past 5 years. Remains to be seen about our current roster-if last year's freshman can show progress, this good be a much better year.
