RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

I predict that the continuing saga of JL will keep us posting unless he does something to make us know for sure -- like signing with a major junior team.

Maybe it will be like "Fifteen", where the story never ends. :D

Though it did end, and I'm pretty sure only about 6 people on this board will get this reference.

If he's stuck with his RPI commitment for this long, though, I think he'll give everything he has to become eligible to play.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

The BU, Northeastern, Niagara, UAH and Union games are unknowns at this point.

at Northeastern - 10/15
Niagara - 10/23
Union - 11/12
at Union - 11/13
BU - 12/11
at UAH - 12/30
at UAH - 12/31

I'm a bit confused by an away game at Northeastern and a home game vs. Bentley on the same weekend, but that's what the schedule I've seen lists.

On the Field House front, very little is going to change seating wise. Section 1 is gone for good. In its place will be a two story structure with VIP balcony seating, offices for the coaches, and conference rooms on the 2nd level. The windows along the front are all being reopened and will probably feature EMPAC style lighting which should make the Field House look awesome at night. The bathrooms in the northwest corner are being replaced/renovated, and there will be a walkway above them that connects the new structure to some of the auxiliary rooms (including the new RPI TV room!) under the stands.

It was found that the lighting over the ice was rated at an average of 63 foot-candles, whereas the NCAA mandates at least 100 foot-candles, so expect all new fixtures. I believe they're working on finding the budget for new house lights as well. They'll also be painting the ceiling, which should lighten things further. The PA system will likely not be receiving an upgrade.

There's also quite a lot of talk about a video scoreboard/jumbotron. The prevailing idea is to replace the current scoreboard with a 3 or 4-sided video board, much like the screen at Harvard. However, there would not be room for the score/period/penalty information below the screen, so that information would be relegated to the catwalks. The other idea is to mount a much larger screen above/behind the Pep Band stage, but I'm not convinced the sight lines would be very good, especially considering the netting behind the goal.

Ralph:

Do you know what the HFH will look like after the work they are doing on it this summer? How it will be set up differently from now.

thanks

RVD: They had renderings of the renovations set up on easels in the HFH for all home games this year...Essentially, according to those drawings, the entire front facade of the building is to be removed and replaced with a modern full-glass facade...including a new lobby, box office and entry doors into the rink. Also, as part of the work, the old Section 1 is slated to become one or two club type rooms for game rentals and VIP groups...as well as a few offices, IIRC. Also, you may recall that along the front wall of the rink there are air handling units, so I would imagine those will be replaced/upgraded -- or at the very least hidden from sight in what becomes the new wall.

I don't have time to find these drawings on the RPI website, but I know I have found them there in the past. I know the original schedule was to begin this work right about now, but what I do not know is whether the admin. is sticking to this plan.

For the poster who was getting on SA about criticizing his players, that person should have been around when the Fat Man (Adessa) was coach. For example, SA was honest when he talked about Yorkie giving up a cheapie on the winning goal (soft backhand) at Colgate. I remember him saying that he thought Yorkie "wishes he had that one back" or words to that effect . That's honesty, not coming down hard. Speaking of York, I am hoping that SA recruits some goaltending because I've heard from some folks that Yorkie may not be staying the whole four. What say you Ralph about bolstering the netminding area especially in light of the poor showing by backups during freakout weekend. I will hang up so I can listen to your response.

That is still the plan. Talking with JFK, he said that the ice was being melted and the cranes were ready to move into the concrete area.

5-year trends of ECAC attendance coming later today or tomorrow.

BTW - Not asking anyone to divulge sources but how reliable on the Appert extension posts? Appert is a first class guy and will bring us to the promised land. Hope it is true. We need to lock him up because OS might be throwing $$$ at SA's pal Blasi. Known fact OS is lusting after Blasi. Seth could be a candidate for Miami if Blasi takes the cash. Gwozdeky connection. Stranger things have happened.

It's nice that everyone thing that my opinion is worth something. :)

I don't think that York is leaving now, but he could leave after next year. IMO, he would be a more important early loss than any other single player (i.e., Pirri or D'Amigo but not both).

We do know that SA has been looking at Stevens who would be available in 2011. He's probably looking at others also. As to Merriam, although I don't see him ever being a number 1 goalie, we haven't seen enough of him to be sure.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Just got a text message from a friend who is in Detroit and let it be known that Chase Polacek is a 1st team All-American....Congrats Chase.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Awesome. Congrats to Chase. I believe Chase was brought in the first full recruiting year for SA. Another retort to all the bedwetters (homage to Red Cloud) who carp at SA. If we can sure up D we are going to be good next year. Question for Ralph -- Last RPI 1st team All American that weren't from the Capital Region?

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure Luke Curadi is at the RPI Accepted Students day festivities. Luke or someone who looked exactly like him was talking with some ACHA guys at the activity fair. I'll confirm if I have the chance.

The B.R.O. is hard to miss -- 6'4 250ish, shock red hair and big enough to bench press a Buick. :D

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

I had the opportunity to witness one of Doc's buddies - Frank Murphy - work his magic in the AHL last night. He was a linesman for the Adk. Phantoms game vs. Bing. Sens. Can't say he was much better than his ECAC work... :D
