Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Today is 9 April 2010. There are 182 days (26 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

1/2 year? Holy mackeral-we will have to think of a lot of thread titles by then:(

I'm sure the number of posts will slow down in due course, probably once Mr. Bailen's season is over. It might pick up at the draft, and then when school starts. At least this is the trend I have seen while viewing and posting on this forum (though y'all have been here longer). Add in Ralph's day counting, I think we'll have 2 off-season threads before the next regular season thread.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Does any body have a rough draft of the 2010-11 schedule. Or a guess to when the first few home games will be.

thanks

According to SportsCenter, you guys made the Frozen Four. Unfortunately, you lost to Wisconsin 8-1. But congrats on the appearance!

There has been some speculation earlier in this thread or in the final season thread for this year about game possibilities, so I would start there. Also, I believe a SLU fan posted on at least one thread the ECAC schedule. I do not have all of this data in front of me, I'd recommend searching the forums.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Coming in yelling about looking towards making coaching changes is not asking questions, it's being a creep. A young team having issues closing out games or playing smart shouldn't shock anyone. It's all part of the ride.

But hey, if he wants to toss the coach out on his ear after the first good season this team has seen in a few years, I'll let him be the village idiot.

Every village needs an idiot, but that post didn't qualify as idiotic. I didn't see a call for appert's removal, just a bit of head scratching over the extension. I think the extension makes sense; it will let recruits and current players know that he is not likely to be put out any time soon and gives the coaching staff some security so that they can concentrate on the job at hand.

I agree that this team is still experiencing some growing pains, but a lot of the problems came from the experienced defensive corps. The young guys up front and in the goal were the strength of this team.

Nov. 5 at Dartmouth
Nov. 6 at Harvard
Nov. 26 Holiday Tournament
Nov. 27 Holiday Tournament
Dec. 3 at Yale
Dec. 4 at Brown
Jan. 7 Clarkson
Jan. 8 SLU
Jan. 14 at Cornell
Jan. 15 at Colgate
Jan. 21 Harvard
Jan. 22 Dartmouth
Jan. 28 Brown
Jan. 29 Yale
Feb. 4 at Quinnipiac
Feb. 5 at Princeton

The BU, Northeastern, Niagara, UAH and Union games are unknowns at this point.

I'll take a guess and say that some sort of schedule will be released at the banquet in a couple weeks.

Naturally, whenever someone mistakes us for those clowns, it casts RPI in a negative light.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2010 -- The Calm Before the Storm

Team Percent Averege attendance/ capacity

Cornell - 99.9% 4264 4267
Yale - 89.6% 3124 3486
Clarkson - 88.2% 2647 3000
Harvard - 85.6 % 2378 2776
Quinnipiac - 86.6 2671 3084
Union - 84.4% 1878 2225
SLU - 73.8% 2213 3000
Princeton - 73.6 1545 2100
Dartmouth - 65.2% 2935 4500
Rensselaer - 54.8% 2859 5217
Brown - 51.9% 1294 2495
Colgate - 51.7% 1161 2246

Number wise RPI would be in 4th

This would be a relevant stat if there were teams that were selling out Messa-sized rinks and presumably would have more people at games if they had the capacity, but that's not the case. Am I supposed to be impressed that Union is at 84.4% capacity when that translates to 1878 people per game? The relevant stat is actual attendance, and while it has been on the decline at RPI, this could easily be remedied if it were in any way advertised to the student population or the community that RPI hockey is good again, but I think most just don't know.

Also, note that college hockey attendance anywhere besides huge state schools is not impressive. The highest average attendance for any private university is 6,548 at Colorado College, which is located in a city over 8 times the size of Troy. The largest average attendance of a private university not located in a major city is Cornell with 4,264.

PS - I know you just posted the stat to satisfy knsmith's curiosity, so I am not pointing out the irrelevance of your posting, just his original point.

Ralph:

Do you know what the HFH will look like after the work they are doing on it this summer? How it will be set up differently from now.

thanks

Basically, no. There have been plans in the media guide.

One of our goals for the near future is to once again have the best hockey team among schools in New York that are commonly identified by three letters, the first of which is R. ;)

We will prove that early in the season. :)

I predict that the continuing saga of JL will keep us posting unless he does something to make us know for sure -- like signing with a major junior team.
