I really enjoyed this ECAC Power rankings that WaP did. http://www.withoutapeer.com/2010/12...tml?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter It has Tute over Union. Agreed. Strength of schedule, comparasion w/ common opponents. Well done. Was hoping that Tom was going to weigh in on the Krach, RPI issue, etc. that has been taking place here because of his vast expertise on the matter.

Doc... I understand that you are being facetious but the fun thing is that you have to ask yourself... other than Yale, is there a game where we aren't going to be favored? The answer to me is no. 18 wins would be crazy of course but other than Yale, we are in the best position in the NCAA to actually run the table.

And before everyone rails on my overoptimism... no I don't expect this to happen. It's a long season and we'll lose a couple that we don't expect to. But... 16-6 in the ECAC doesn't seem outrageous and that would translate to 24 wins before playoffs.

Love that word-facetious (has all the vowels in the correct alphabetical order-perhaps the only word I know that does). And yes i was being partially that. I honestly do think we could (if healthy) run the table to the playoffs. I think Yale is beatable in the ECAC but perhaps only by us. They are clearly a very good team-but so are we. We are young and will make some glaring mistakes. But we have perhaps the best goaltender in the ECAC (if not the country) and one of the best defenses in the ECAC. If we can just avoid going into the lulls tht we sometimes do in games where it seems we are backing off and asleep at the wheel-we may end up with a couple ties but the rest should be wins. Before the season started i figured us for 20 wins. I now think we are heading for 22+ and 24 or more is not unthinkable. How we will do in the playoffs is a whole different story-short series are notoriously hard to predict and a hot goalie or an injury often makes the difference (see Jon Casey 1984 in HFH). I really like this team and think we are deserving of a top 15 if not top 10 ranking.

Just curious, does anyone have an update as to whether or not the new videoboard and sound system will be getting installed during the 18 day layoff between the USA and Clarkson games? I know there were plans to have it installed mid season but Im not even sure if the new board has been delivered to RPI yet. Maybe RHam can fill us in. :)

Actually heard from a reliable source that it will be :).

12/20 was what I heard...

The unit is scheduled to be shipped on 12/16, arriving 12/20ish. It will be installed over break and will be providing scoreboard functionality for the 1/7 and 1/8 Clarkson and SLU games. Video functionality won't be ready until a couple weeks later; there's quite a bit more work on the video infrastructure that needs to be done before we'll be able to send a video feed to it. The goal is 1/29 at the Freakout for video, but I'm hoping it'll be ready for the Dartmouth/Harvard series on 1/22 and 1/23. I'm returning to campus a couple weeks early to check out the infrastructure work that's being done and to run some tests.

Also, no sound upgrades. They were delayed a couple years for budget reasons.

This thread is nothing if not illuminating.:)

In almost 63 years, my head has gotten filled with a lot of worthless information. I think that there is no more room for important information, so I am retiring. :)

This is part of the reason Jenny and I went into semi retirement. There was no more room in my head for anything until I cleared some stuff out. Retire from work if you must but stay on the threads-I need someone who understands my facetiousness and sarcasm. Besides-we have so few from our era on here to give that historical perspective.

This explains why RPI hockey is practicing at the Knick, in Troy, rather HFH...Dec 27,9-10:50 & Dec 28, 9-12:30

I just had to chime in: "facetiously" and "abstemiously" have all the vowels, plus "y", in order. ;)

We attract a literary crowd here. We may not always know everything about hockey but we are among the most educated threads!
i would be amazed to see those words come up on any other thread.

In an attempt to get back to RPI hockey, does anyone think we have a legitimate chance at winning this weekend?
I took a look at their roster, and we are basically playing a team of professionals. Their one drawback seems to be their lack of time together. I know York is good, but can he keep us in a game like this?
I am usually not this pessimistic about our chances, but these are not college kids we are playing against.
Any comments?

Most are still in college. FWIW, North Dakota only lost 4-2 to them last season and outshot them 34-26. I think that we have a chance.
