RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

And Clarkson makes an appearance at #20:eek:

I think that it's deserved. Despite my dislike for their team over the years, it's good for the ECAC if they are there. It's also nice that three of the Liberty League (or whatever the league name is this year) members are there.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Looking over the remaining 18 games of the schedule this year I notice RPI plays only 6 of those 18 games against teams with winning records to date. (Clarkson x2, Princeton x2, Dartmouth and Yale) With only 2 of those games away from HFH. Of course we still have to play at Starr were the last time RPI won a game was November 2001, current AC Nolan Graham scored the game winner in that one, 0-9-1 since  and although playing on the road in Ithaca and Canton are never easy feats either, I think this team is full of heart and is more than capable of topping the 20 win mark this year. :D

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

BU went down 5 for losing to us?! I didn't think we were THAT terrible... unless they're using a ladder system of sorts.

They were outplayed by Northeastern too - although they did manage to win. I think the pollsters are taking a 2nd look at BU and realizing they just aren't that good just yet.

Good for them but I wonder whether they will have staying power. Other than the win at St, Cloud, they really haven't done much against good teams. I know they've beaten PU and QU but I don't think either of those squads are very strong regardless of what their records are.

What we really need this week is for Colgate to find their game against RMU. A win or two against them would be yet more help for the ECAC in the computer based rankings.

This is the part where I argue with myself...

Just checked the records and realized that SCSU isn't really doing very well this year. So my initial point, though poorly made, is even more valid.

Other than Yale, I think we can realistically consider ourselves the favorites for the balance of our schedule. At Clarkson and at Cornell might be challenges but this team is too good on the defensive end to not be in every contest. I'll set the over/under at 22 wins before playoffs.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

We're talking about polls, no?

And by standards that are as objective as you can be, e.g. PWR, KRACH, we are NOT ahead of them.

KNS, we would be ahead of Union if Hicks doesn't screw up the call. Plus we have wins against UCONN (Union ties), more quality wins (BU, etc.)

It's time to get over the call. We lost that game and there is nothing we can do about it. If we continue to play the way we have been, we will pass Union. At this point, we need to stay focused on each game as it comes.
I don't want to start looking to far ahead in the schedule. That always seems to come back and bite me.
RPI is a very good team. So is Union and Yale. Any games we have with those two schools will be battles. I like the idea that Yale is the Freakout game. At least we will have a full house.
Take it one game at a time.

Earlier in the season I had us pegged for 20 wins total for the year-after the first 16 games I had posted that I moved that figure up to 21-22. I may be underestimating by several wins. This is a good team that is learning to be a very good team. The confidence is growing and showing. I agree with others who feel we should be the favorites now in most of the remaining games. RPI hockey is back! and I suspect we will stay up in the standings for some time to come if SA has anything to say about it. He has done a marvelous job of recruiting and now the program is starting to get the attention it deserves.

Can someone explain to me(in simple language) why our strength of schedule ratings are so vastly different when I click on RPI rating on the USCHO poll and when I click on Krach on the USCHO poll? In one case our SOS is about 8 or 9 and under Krach it is 19. That is quite a difference. Just trying to understand the discrepancies.

I don't put much emphasis on where we are ranked but I do try to understand how the SOS is computed.

I almost spit out my Yoo-Hoo when the 6:00PM sportcast noted that the Albany Devils - Wilkes Barre - Scranton game - scheduled to be played in ATLANTIC CITY today - was cancelled due to...wait for it ........."POOR ICE CONDITIONS." Sadly, I'm not making this up. They can't make ice in December, and yet the ECAC is entrusting them to host a two-day event in late March??

The ice problem they had in Atlantic City was that there was a huge hole in the ice. Not joking. It was located in the neutral zone near one of the on-ice advertisements. Think of it like a pothole on the ice. That they even brought the teams out to warm up with the ice in that shape is beyond me, a bucket of snow wouldn't have fixed the problem. Not exactly the best start to things down there.

Yep what a joke.

“We had a figure skating event here last night,” Boardwalk Hall general manager Greg Tesone. “We had to paint the ice white to paint over the top of the hockey lines so the lines weren’t visible.

“Our crew worked all night to cut the paint back out. You shave off ice until you to get back to the hockey ice. We shaved too much; the ice got too thin. Those were the areas that you saw broke off during warm-ups.

“At this point it’s going to take a while to get back to the thickness we need to play safely, and we just weren’t able to get there fast enough.”

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Everyone knows you can't have figure skating with lines on the ice. It's just not possible. You have to be a hardcore skater like the Houstonettes to skate on ice with HOCKEY LINES on it.

Idiots.

Thinking this crew won't be working on the Winter Classic at Heinz Field.

Polls are out, we only go to 14th, and we learn there's some Hockey East bias in the ballots.

Anyone have an explanation for me? As usual I am a bit confused.
