Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Someone open up the ceiling valve again? :D

Apparently, the transmitter apparently doesn't work real well when it's got ice collected on it. Had to step into the wetsuit and clear it off. :p

But in all seriousness, since I can't make it to listen to the show (I'm at work, they don't allow podcasts), I was wondering if you would be able to discuss the recent clearing of Brutlag, being there might be some concern especially after what recently happened with Hemsky in the NHL.

D'oh! Didn't see this until after the show. Touched on Brutlag's return briefly during the week recap.

Dude-Concussions may be among the toughest things in all of medicine to predict. As much as medicine has advanced in my 40+ years since graduating-It is my opinion that we are not very much further along in our understand of all aspects of them. Some things we do know-some individuals are more prone to getting them. Previous concussion make you more susceptible to getting future ones. The amount of time that one is either out or having memory difficulty is significant. I tend to be more conservative than most-I remember some of the worst ones like Brian Pothier, Brad Tapper and Eric Lindros. I tend to like to wait longer before allowing a player to resume activities and at the very least have him cleared by a board certified neurologist after being well tested. Your concern makes very good sense.

A couple of articles by Ed Weaver

An article about several things, Higgs' return, the earlier report that Halpern is back was wrong, and a discussion about possible overtime changes http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/...4d3925d0f0fdb416255758.txt?viewmode=fullstory.

An article about this weekend's opponents http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/...4d392569857c0220541823.txt?viewmode=fullstory.

Old fasioned or not-i strongly agree with his take on tie games. Extend overtime to 10 minutes as it was years ago-but do not tamper with the game. I am an old time hockey fan and think the game fine the way it is. If teams are tied after an esxtended OT then so be it. If they move to 4 on 4 for overtime the next step will be shootouts-just like in soccer and I would hate that. This is a team sport played 5 on 5 and that is how it should be decided. It is not a wide open game to be decided by who scores on the most breakaways. Just my 2¢

If they decide to do shootouts, don't do any special consideration for making it there. It's a win or a loss. No question. In fact, it might be fun to say forget shootouts, just keep playing until someone wins. Heck, that's what they do in that sport the southerners care about this time of year.

There's overtime in NASCAR?

No. They take them out to the real road and make them do a right hand-turn :D Whoever does the most, wins.

They only do that at Riverside and Watkins Glen. ;)
Repeat after me: 'David Pearson and Fred Lorenzen ran circles around Richard Petty. And Fireball Roberts was iconic.'

Hey, people in the Watkins Glen area take pride in their right turns! :D

Just to derail this further, Laguna Seca is unusual for a road course in that it's run counter-clockwise, and therefore left turn dominated :)

EDIT: I see you fixed your post!

RH just curious, will the video portion of the new scoreboard be up and running for the games this weekend?

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

We're getting pretty close to needing a new thread, does anyone have any bright ideas for titles?

You'd think I should know! But I don't. There's been an extreme lack of communication between those who are running the board and those who actually shoot video.

Where we stood two weeks ago was that our old analog signal can't interface with the digital video board. We don't have any spare hardware to do the conversion, and they have an extremely limited, low budget infrastructure. Beyond that, they didn't purchase any dedicated replay equipment for the video board, so they'd be relying on us for replays. Problem there is, we're doing replays for our broadcasts rather than for the board, and we don't have the equipment or crew to do a good job at both. The "official" replay is a separate closed system from the video board that I believe is yet to be installed.

If I can take a guess, it's that we'll be running the Video Board during Freakout since Time Warner will be doing the broadcast. Means there will be twice as many cameras in the Field House as there need to be, and we'll be fighting for space. Hopefully down the road we'll be able to properly interface with the video board, but we certainly don't have the budget for it!

When Ralph picks a winner, you go with it because you never know how long it might be before it happens again.

RPI IV: We Still Have Allen York. Sorry, Everyone.

I had a feeling, but was hedging my bets as to whether or not it was a joke. ;)
