That's a bit harsh. First of all, many of us are transplants (I'm a Michigander) and we're not going to give up our sport just because we moved where there's an economy. Secondly, this kind of attitude is, in my opinion, part of why hockey has such a hard time expanding. Besides, we're not exactly a flash in the pan, this school has had a hockey team for more than 3 decades, and even though they're division II, we still have a pair of national championships. A lot of folks up north would be really surprised to see how much hockey is really played in the south. I suggest picking up a copy of "Hockey Night in Dixie".
To address the initial complaints, yes our rink suffers from the warmth, but given this weekend is also going to see Pittsburgh suffering? Cut us some slack. We had ice last week (and 3+ inches of snow on the ground) and not this week. If one of our two schools can create a weather control device to solve this problem, let me know. As to the actual problems on the ice, that wasn't bad ice, not by a long shot. Was it good ice? No, we seldom get that, but it certainly wasn't bad. It is SLOW ice, and that doesn't change.
The scoreboard is old, it's not the first time and not the last time that problem will happen until it's updated. But it certainly isn't a problem limited to UAH. I've seen the boards go out at top notch schools from various events, in just about every sport. It happens. The door and the glass were the aberrations. We occasionally have a support knocked loose on a good hit, but two panes in one evening is rare, and I've never seen that door fly open like that. That elicited as *Wiskey Tango Foxtrot* response from most of those in my box.
Halpern suffered from a game injury. Like every team, you're going to see your fair share of these kind of injuries, has nothing to do with it having been in Alabama. We've lost players for several games to various problems. The skate cut was a tragedy, but again has nothing to do with being here specifically, it's just a fluke. It happens, at all levels. It sucks, seriously, but it's not the venue's fault.
We do wish your players a speedy recovery, and we don't wish you ill (except on the scoreboard). We much prefer it when the visitors enjoy coming to our community, and I don't like the fact that this trip may leave sour feelings.
