Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

DrD's memory may be better than my mine on this, but I vaguely recall them being more of a natural wood color when I was a student.

My very earliest memories of the seats include the following-natural wood color, getting an occassional splinter from them, sitting behind innumerable posts and having no angle to see the goal, but enjoying every minute of it all. I also remember before the glass having the chicken wire and getting clocked in the head with a puck behind the net during warm up.(One of the few pucks tht Bill Sack did not stop) **** those were the good old days.:D

I thought that re-signed with us last weekend. ;)

Seriously-do you think there is any regrets on his part for leaving just when the team was starting to become a force in the NCAA ?

Aren't they still the same wooden seats besides for the painting.

I certainly remember the posts.

He must have some regret, but that might end when he sees the paychecks.

You do realize that, if we happen to make the NCAA tournament this year, some thoughts might be, "We lost the right guys." Similar akin to when Herb Brooks was cut from the 1960 Olympic team. Obviously I don't think this is true at all, but those that currently wear the cherry and white have come together well as a team.

Jerry even joked a little about it during the pre-game interview, how he hoped his leaving isn't what caused the team to start doing so well.

As I recall, if you sat in the sections down by the stage, the seats were natural concrete color. :D

I'm certainly old enough to remember the innumerable posts and the chicken wire, as well as Bill Sack. Fortunately, I never got clocked in the head during warmups.

Jerry made the right move for himself. He might never have had the spectcular tourney and season he had last year. JDA cashed in when the getting was good. I wish him well and it was good to see him at HFH but I'm sure he has no regrets at this point. if he never makes the show he might be sorry he didn't get his degree but those are the chances you take. JDA and Pirri coming will be seen as the beginning of the resurrgence in Troy because now we have a national rep.

Clearly they needed to include at least one player from each team. That means that the QU defenseman that graduated a couple years back will make it too.

And then moments later the last guy cut from the '80 team gets named to the top 50 ECAC players of all time. Nice timing.

When I read that article, I immediately thought of that. How ironic...

That was the first thing that crossed my mind.

....Well, we did advance past the 1st round of playoffs without JD'A & BP (Dart.) & lost in the 1st rd. with them. ;)

I have absolutely no knowledge of this, but I did mention that I thought that Helfrich's declined in play had something to do with Pirri and D'Amigo making him take a back seat.
He certainly has played back to his freshman year plus.
Some of the other guys have also picked up their game. And this years freshmen + Bailen have added a lot to the team.
All in all, I will give credit to Seth Appert for the teams resurgence this year. If nothing else, he has these guys believing in themselves.

I disagree with the first remark based upon the fact he had a difficult sophomore season as well. I think probably the player this really applies to, though, is Pat Cullen. Amazing frosh season, then it almost seemed like he had to take the back seat because of BP and JDA. However, back to Helfrich, I think one of the big things is that now that he's a senior, he likely feels an obligation to lead by example, and I'm also attributing that to Coach's words of how his seniors will be leading the team.

Perhaps true enough-but I go back to when we clearly had a national reputation in the 60's and again in the 80's. I don't think it would have hurt either JDA or BP to have hung on one more year each-and as far as rebuilding the RPI reputation-look no further than the coach-he is doing a remarkable job (and i hope nobody notices so we do not have to worry about losing him).

Reed Cashman....(certainly worthy)

I don't disagee with this sentiment. I think both should have stayed if not for purely selfish reasons but I think they both will see big paydays. JDA's value was the highest it would ever be IMO. My time watching the team goes back to the late seventies and I think the 80s guys cashed out at the right time too after the National Championship (Oates I believe ran out of eligiblity). BTW- I was watching the US team practice with Red Cloud, Turk 181 and troyboy and tb told us the story about when he was in Catholic Grammar School in Troy how Rich Scammell and Colin Ingham were his gym teachers. I'm sure these names will bring back fond memories for you and the Ralphster. Actually tb and I are older then most of you may think because we don't act our age just our shoe size:D (leave that one alone FDude) As an aside, my best to you and Jenny for a lovely Holiday season. I always enjoy your takes and appreciate your kindness to me.
