Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

...good things are happening one inch at a time. Progress is taking place. GO RED! Build towards March one inch at a time.

Wasn't last year more like a foot and a half? :D

One day at a time, one step at a time, one period at a time.

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Since the heated discussion with Union posters seems to be over now, I will ask my questions about the BRF again, and hopefully someone will answer :)
What are the noise maker/give-away will they have this year, and what do people think was the best noise maker/ give-away ever?

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

The UHMs and SlyFoxes of the <strike>world</strike> area seem to think RPI fans are upset that Union is strong. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Absolutely the right call by Seth. He knows these games could all have gone either way (including the RPI win, which I forgot to mention earlier was also a game won on a lucky bounce).

No problem with RPI Hockey Coach Seth Appert's refusal to say Union is better than his Engineers. Would Jim, never give up, never EVER give up, Valvano admit that a team that had beaten his squad three times in four extremely competitive games admit defeat? Hardly.

Appert rightly believes in his guys. This team, like a good Merlot, is getting better all the time and needs just a little more aging before it is ready for the table. Unlike the past couple of seasons, when the team was unable to recover from a tough loss or a couple of bad games, this group has bounced back every time they've been dealt a setback. If they can regroup and get three or four points at home against Dartmouth and Harvard, they will be right back in the thick of it in a very tough and very balanced ECAC.

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

No.

And another thing: I hope you have some proof that Union was intentionally trying to injure D'Amigo. Otherwise, that's a bush league comment.

First time it happened (Thanksgiving), things like that happen, no dispute. Second time, it seemed like they were definitely going after his line. Obviously since I was using a video feed to base my evidence rather than attending the game in person, I'm not sure if it was just his line drawing the checking coverage, or if they were going for him because he was tender and wanted to make playing us a little easier (which I certainly hope the former was the case). Sure, call me over-protective because I wanted him to have the best chance in repesenting our country (I think most of us were after that first game). I don't ever see Union doing such a thing, though.

Well, if you check the history of RPI, you will notice an ECAC Championship 1995, several trips to Lake Placid (which is where the ECAC Final Four used to be)in case you wernt aware, 2 NCAA Reigonal appearances in the 90's as well.

You can also check the back of old Section 1 if you ever decide to go to HFH with the other 30 Union fans that are usually there and note the players that RPI has put in the NHL, including a border line hall of famer now an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Oh yeah, that National Championship thing too.

"border line hall of famer"? I agree with whoever said future hall of famer. Sixth all time in NHL assists. The following players have more assists per game than Adam Oates in their NHL careers: Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr. Sure, he wasn't a big goal scorer, but he still scored 341, and played good defense from a forward position. Also, to address another recent topic, I am happy that Union is playing well because we suffered for many years because Union was perennially so terrible that everybody would rest their starting goalies against them and generally sleep on them because we were the only team that other teams really had to prepare for that weekend.

ph33r the Capital District!! (was going to do the whole thing in leetspeak, but decided against it since there's probably a rule about it)

You're absolutely right that being very high in assists should get you to the hall of fame. Sure many people just focus on the goals, however you usually need an assist to get the goal, unless you're one of those coast-to-coast showoffs. A point is a point is a point is a point. However, the Hall of Fame isn't necessarily a lock until he's in. Look at Jim Abbott on the baseball side, but I digress.

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

So far the only thing that's kept Oatesy out of the Hall so far has been a backlog of other guys who have waited their turn and a glut of superstars recently retired. Not to mention, the Hall's stupid limit on inductees in a given year.

Regardless, I refuse to recognize the Hockey Hall's legitimacy until Boris Mikhailov is inducted. It's an absolute crime that he's not in there. Kharlamov is in, but not Mikhailov and Petrov? Please.

Mikhailov, Petrov, Oates, Ciccarelli, Gilmour.

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

WOW. Anyone who takes a shot at Jerry D'Amigo has no class at all and seriously needs some help. He deserves respect as well as his teammates. Low Blow even from you.

Ok I'm back bored at work so we can continue if you'd like. Why can't anyone take a shot at Jerry D'Amigo? He won a gold medal so he must be worshiped?

You need to stop while you are only way behind.

Jim Abbott? 87 career wins??? Are you kidding?

I'd throw some facepalms your way but I don't want to encroach on RC's turf.

Yeah, dude's been on a losing streak for two or three weeks now. Needs to chikity-check himself before he riggity-wrecks himself.

Darn new year..... :o Ah well, probably better me than something more important, like the team.

Ah, forget it, the hole's already deep enough...

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Mikhailov, Petrov, Oates, Ciccarelli, Gilmour.
Unfortunately a certain Cornell Alum is going to reduce the available spots for 2010 to 4. I agree with Oates, Ciccarelli and Gilmour as 3 of the 4. I think Bure might get the 5th.

Mikhailov would be in already if it weren't for the choke job in Lake Placid :D .

So the dogs are all fed and their cages are clean? I didn't say worship I said respect. Find some.

Hockey Hall of Fame has a max of 4 inductees in any given year for players. Broadcasters, officials and builders are exempt from that.

And there's no way that Nieuwendyk should be in before Oates or Ciccarelli, never mind the Russians who are obviously getting dicked over by Canadian media. It was shocking when Igor Larionov got in as fast as he did.

Oops. You are correct sir. Maybe Joe N waits a year and then joins the 3 Russians in a Red themed class of 2011.
