Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

I am surprised that the Union comparison can be switched with those three losses to them, unless perhaps we beat them twice in the playoffs..
It can because we beat them in common opponents and record against teams under consideration. If we get ahead of them in RatingsPI then it is 3-3 and the tie breaker is the latter. We can beat them twice in the playoffs and it still won't matter in head to head.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Taking a quick look, the two easiest to flip are Dartmouth and Union. Works out well to root against them anyway to solidify our 2nd place standing in the ECAC. Continuing to win is key, obviously, but if we can string together a few more wins, and D & U lose, the RatingsPI will flip on both and thus the comparisons.

Wins against Colgate (assuming they stay above the cut line) and SLU will help us with our TUC record. Having Brown win can't hurt either, they are just a tad below the TUC cut line.

If we want Colgate to stay a TUC, it is IMPERATIVE that they beat Union next week. If we beat them on Saturday, that's 2 TUC wins, and a real asset to have above the line.

The tiebreak is RatingsPI, not H2H. We have them in COp and %vTUC.

...and jmhusker beat me.

I see the Times Union has 'discovered us' over the last two weekends. Even Rodger Wyland, now that UAlbany basketball is fizzling a bit, is paying attention. I think the arrival of 'front running media types' is just a distraction. They will come and go like the wind. ;) Focus on our process, play our game.

Our rise to 2nd in the ECAC reminds me of Secretariat's race in the Preakness. :)

Love it Ralph, but this local guy is nowhere near ready to think about the Saratoga Race Course opening. Im just enjoying this ride right now. :)

Winning brings more attention to you. Always been that way and always will be. I think Coach and his staff have a good handle on what to tell the team to keep them focused. One game at a time from this point on. The heck with pairwise and rankings and whatnot we just need to win and take care of this ourselves.

Each of the head-to-head losses counts separately, as you indicated, so if we sweep them in the playoffs, we only have to win one of common-opponents and TUC. That's all I meant.

One thing I saw in the box score: the attendance last night was 4113. Either Yale has started to travel well, or people are starting to come out of the woodwork. Given Union sold out, I'm tempted to say the former, but that's pretty good for the 'Tute.

Perhaps it being White Out helped? If it does then lets make every home game some theme night

Never was another horse like that. Years back there were 2 horses famous for running from behind with incredible stretch drives-One was Silky Sullivan and the other the great John Henry. In most races they stayed back so far they were off the screen on TV broadcasts-but they kicked into overdrive at the head of the stretch and had the fastest top end speed. If we are to be compared to any of these then we truly are coming on strong.

I wonder if Mr. Schott is going to put RPI in his top 20. I'm watching Ken. Cue, the FDude polls don' matter post.

Yale had a decent turnout but as with most teams it was confined to sec 18/19. The place was very full, to the point they had the corner curtains open for the sections on the east end. Nice to see for a game other than Freakout.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

The USCHO poll tomorrow should be interesting-we deserve more than the 1 vote we got last week. No team in the country has a longer winning streak going. One nice thing is that we are not only winning the games that we have dominated (Clarkson, Brown) but we have found a way to win the games that we are not in control of(SLU, Yale). We may not have many players listed in the top 50 in the nation in any offensive category, but we do not seem to have anyone on this team taking a night off. And of course it helps to have one of the top 3 goaltenders in the nation just calmly setting the tone by making just about everything look so easy out there and at times making the sensational save to stop the opponent cold. The most stressful stretch yesterday was that almost 2 minutes that Yale had us hemmed in totally with e forecheck-at any othe time in th epast many years that would have surely led to a goal against. Somehow we seemed to be using a rope-a-dope defense for that stretch of time until we could finally get the puck out of there.

I believe the last time we had a sellout for a game other than Freakout was 2006-07 when BU was in town and it was Parent's Weekend. We had just come off a split with Denver, and RPI was about to get its first good look at the collective AspyDad's great coach (aside from the scrimmage and exhibition game).

I'd rather not have us have any top 50 skaters. That way, our opponents have to defend against everyone.
