Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

While we're at it can we throw in if Pirri and JDA were still with us and where we would/would not be then? Or doesn't the system allow for that under the "what if"?
The system allows you to change the results of games and see what the PWR would be. It doesn't care if you assume Santa is on your team. My point was that the alternate outcomes I suggested were not only reasonable but justifiable based on how the games were actually played. My second point is that this team is not only pretty darn good but a lot better than many think.

I agree we are better than many people think I just find it funny that people are worried about things that have happened in the past that they cannot control, then or now, and waste time dwelling on it. At least I don't have that kind of time on my hands or space in my head to allow it to take up worrying about it. What has happened has happened nothing we can do about it now. As long as the men on the ice learned from those things, which they appear to have, is all that we can hope. They are the ones on the ice who can make things happen for us and we need them to keep playing the way they have been and y to stay healthy while doing it.

Also as much as I love Kazzy in net one should not think for a minute he is not due to have an off night like Borelli did last night for Brown. All the great players have those days. Lets just hope that night is not tonight.

You really do have a one track mind. Pointing out how a past event can affect our position in the standings is a waste of time? Next time you have some sort of severe medical probelem-let's totally ignore your past history and just jump right in with today's symptoms. In fact, maybe we should not even ask you a question-just go by what the blood test says-even if it is in error. Maybe you should have some more time on your hands or some space in your head. The rest of this statement does however, make sense. It is all just a mental exercise-an attempt to show how 1 or 2 single small events can change the result of an entire season-but i guess you just cannot see that.

What happened in the past is true in many areas, such as debugging a computer error, since although you see the error pop up, something earlier could have provoked it. Where S@HD has a point, though, is what is there to gain in this case from looking back upon it? Obviously we can use it as a learning experience in future years when going into a close game with points at stake, or even this year should we be coming down to the wire against a team, but there's nothing that we can really do about the past. What's done is done. We need to focus on how to play the cards we have now.

Of course-but was just showing how 2 episodes which took perhaps 30 seconds of our season-may keep us from being in the NCAA field (unless of course we win out in the ECAC tournament) and how many positions in the Pairwise can change based on one ref call or one sh goal against late in a game. Obviously we have to do now what we have to do-no one would ever think otherwise. As i have said before though-those who ignore the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them.:)

We've both said that. However, it's only relevant when a similar situation presents itself.

As JMHusker pointed out in an earlier post-there were just a bunch of similar events this year early in the season. Each one alone may end up being costly. And there is nothing wrong with carefully looking at those situations-in part to do exactly what you said-to try to not allow them to happen again.

This new "fad" may be worse than the game resets, although probably not.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

The way this team is playing-cannot wait for the next game. Did not play our best for 40 minutes-in fact we were very fortuante not to be down by a coule. But came out in the third with guns blazing and took the game to them. Having a rock in goal certainly helps but having 4 lines that just keep puching the puck up into the corners and cycling until a pass can be made out front is just great. JL made the perfect play to bailen and this one changed in an instant. 8 League wins in a row. WOW! What a streak-now let's stay healthy and perhaps get a body or two back into the line up as depth may be the key to the remainder of this season and the playoffs.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

993, WE WANT MORE!!! a

FD, I wondered what that number was when you posted 992 yesterday. It suddenly dawned on me, and it actually looks achievable this year now. Please continue to keep track. :D

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Our rise to 2nd in the ECAC reminds me of Secretariat's race in the Preakness. :)

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

:)

We can't stop there of course since some lower ranked team will probably win a league tourney, but we certainly got to that point fast from being off the chart.

Taking a quick look, the two easiest to flip are Dartmouth and Union. Works out well to root against them anyway to solidify our 2nd place standing in the ECAC. Continuing to win is key, obviously, but if we can string together a few more wins, and D & U lose, the RatingsPI will flip on both and thus the comparisons.

Wins against Colgate (assuming they stay above the cut line) and SLU will help us with our TUC record. Having Brown win can't hurt either, they are just a tad below the TUC cut line.

Worry not, friends. Engineer Bracketology returns this week at WaP.

I am surprised that the Union comparison can be switched with those three losses to them, unless perhaps we beat them twice in the playoffs..
