RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

RPI has to face Princeton/Qpac sometime or other. Why do you see having that matchup in the middle of January as being a particularly poor draw?
I feel like it heavily back loads the schedule. It provides too many breaks in November, when the team's trying to get in a groove.

Also, I feel like it takes away the opportunity for a non-conference series like we're seeing this weekend. There will only be thirteen conference games played in all of college hockey this weekend. The more times conference games are schedule for non-traditional conference weekends (like the week or so after New Year's), the more times non-conference series need to be scheduled into traditional in-league weekends, requiring more finagling to get high-quality opponents.

Any ideas for a thread title for Part III? :D

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

Unless Union. That would be awfully early for Black Friday though. I imagine Coach may want to stay away from Union Black Fridays given our recent performance in "big"/rivalry games. It's also bad from a money standpoint; why mix our (arguably) biggest rivalry with free attendance? So yeah, probably Cornell.

It also looks like Brown or Clarkson for Freakout! Clarkson would also have to be senior night, so I think we would lean toward Brown, but who knows.

You KNOW Brown is going to look to swap that, just like last time.

11/1 - @Harvard
11/2 - @Dartmouth
11/8 - Cornell
11/9 - Colgate

12/6 - Quinnipiac
12/7 - Princeton

1/10 - @Princeton
1/11 - @Quinnipiac
1/24 - Dartmouth
1/25 - Harvard
1/31 - @Clarkson

2/1 - @St. Lawrence
2/7 - Yale
2/8 - Brown
2/14 - @Colgate
2/15 - @Cornell
2/21 - St. Lawrence
2/22 - Clarkson
2/28 - @Brown

3/1 - @Yale

I would predict the Union series to be around November 14th/15th. If it were a split series, I'd predict around there for the first game (at RPI), and January 17th or 18th for the second (at Union). Thanksgiving will be November 28th, which would put Union's final exams the week before, or the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd. I suspect we would use one of those two weeks (likely Thanksgiving, and take the week before as a NC week) as our bye week.

I think we'll have the answer to that question next week. ;)

RPI Part III: There will be math involved. (You wanted to put this on the backburner, and since I like it, and we are starting the drive to the playoffs, and RPI is a tech school, it makes total sense.)

I like it too. Thanks for reposting it since I forgot it. After messing up this thread by just cutting and pasting, would "RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part III: There Is Math Involved" be better?

Keep the suggestions coming. :)

"Will Be" is appropriate, because if you're looking through the list of thread titles, you haven't yet selected the thread. Not to mention, the USCHO quotation is, "I was told there would be no math". Therefore, you were told there will be math. ;)

I think jericho has won this time around, though.

I watched Q'pac dismantle UNO in Hamden last weekend...Hartzell was on fire....they are a legit top 5 team at the moment.

The last time we played at Agganis, we were without one of our top forwards (D'Amigo), Kerins I believe was suspended after the Union game so we were playing Beauregard (who tallied his first and I believe only collegiate point), and we were playing our backup goaltender (Merriam). We were just fine then; I have a feeling we'll be just fine this time around.

Save that for Part 4.

The past 2 years we had great seating at AC-and gave all the tickets away. This year we are delay8ingpurchasing seats-we have a wedding to go to and of course it has to be the same weekend. This one goes down to the wire.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

I think we'll have the answer to that question next week. ;)

FlagDUDE was responding to my initial inquiry, in which I asked burgie12 as to why he felt that having a matchup between RPI and Princeton/Qpac on the second weekend of January 2014 was a poor draw. I wasn't referring to next weekend's matchup against those same two schools, even though it will also take place on the second weekend of January.

I can understand why RPI fans could look at next weekend's schedule and be somewhat dismayed to see that when our team finally resumes ECAC play, their first game will be against the team that's been the best in the league thus far.

But as far as I'm concerned, because of the fact that Princeton is far closer to me than any other ECAC rink, the RPI at Princeton game is always the top draw of the year, regardless of what time of year it takes place.

Actually, to me, the time of day is more significant than the time of year. It's easier to make the round trip to Princeton for a Saturday afternoon game (as will be the case this year) than for a Friday night game (as will be the case next year), regardless of the month when the game is played.
