Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way
Bingo - right back to where this all started with Turk's message and referencing me....stop overcoaching this !! These kids know how to play. LET THEM PLAY. I mentioned somewhere that when shorthanded the D needs to be on that box and fluid, and that we needed to be fluid too....I dont care if we end up with 1 D from time to time IF the weak side D is dropping into the open space if the puck is in the opposite corner down low. Its a smart, heads up, play. These guys all know how to do that stuff. One of the things that we have always heard was that we were going to be a fast, aggressive, up-tempo team. If thats the case, then why do we basically stand around in cement shoes on the power play and never move ? How is it then that the other team gets so many breakaways against us ? We have a great skating team - let them skate and move. It pressures the box and creates openings. There should be no blocked shots and constant cross ice passes thru the seams.
Just so we are clear - I'm not telling at you EHF. I'm frustrated that we recruit skill, touch, and speed and just dont seem to use it.
OK, so we are all in agreement that the single D on the power play does not do us any good. Most of us have commented and I have yet to see any posts that think that the sigle D is a good system.
Now I have to ask, if all of us amateur coaches (and I include myself) think it should be changed, and we have three professional coaches behind the bench that continue that system, what are we missing?
I have to believe that they know better than we do, so what are we missing???
