Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

OK, so we are all in agreement that the single D on the power play does not do us any good. Most of us have commented and I have yet to see any posts that think that the sigle D is a good system.
Now I have to ask, if all of us amateur coaches (and I include myself) think it should be changed, and we have three professional coaches behind the bench that continue that system, what are we missing?
I have to believe that they know better than we do, so what are we missing???

Bingo - right back to where this all started with Turk's message and referencing me....stop overcoaching this !! These kids know how to play. LET THEM PLAY. I mentioned somewhere that when shorthanded the D needs to be on that box and fluid, and that we needed to be fluid too....I dont care if we end up with 1 D from time to time IF the weak side D is dropping into the open space if the puck is in the opposite corner down low. Its a smart, heads up, play. These guys all know how to do that stuff. One of the things that we have always heard was that we were going to be a fast, aggressive, up-tempo team. If thats the case, then why do we basically stand around in cement shoes on the power play and never move ? How is it then that the other team gets so many breakaways against us ? We have a great skating team - let them skate and move. It pressures the box and creates openings. There should be no blocked shots and constant cross ice passes thru the seams.

Just so we are clear - I'm not telling at you EHF. I'm frustrated that we recruit skill, touch, and speed and just dont seem to use it.

Read and agree with each and every post you made today. I have been trying to say these things for the past couple years but you said it all eloquently and succinctly. I say this so often but I have to repeat it-in college, you live and die with the special teams. Many games we spend 20-30 minutes up or down a man or two. The teams that succeed with their special teams win and the others lose.

I was reading the Hockey's Future boards and the picture in the first post on this thread about John Gaudreau crossed my field of vision http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=934867. The guy on the left looks familiar. ;)

Actually the picture may have been posted here before.

He was pumping his tires on Twitter this morning - if you don't follow the BRO on Twitter you're missing out, it's pretty funny stuff usually.

I have links to many of the current players and recruits who have public Twitter accounts including Curadi which I look roughly once a day. It might be easier if I had my own account. :)

SA has a tweet that the team had a combined 3.5 GPA including two with 4.0 last semester.

Looking at the PDF, Kyle Baun, who was named Player of the Month, was one of the also-rans for Rookie of the Month. It sounds like Bubela could have been PotM had he been nominated. (OTOH they may just have wanted to split the awards.)

I'm too lazy to type it. The non-travel-partner portion of next year's ECAC schedule is attached to the first post of this thread on eLynah.

Will be at the BU game tonight. I was at both the 7-0 BU game in Boston and the 4-3 OT win in Troy over Cornell. Great memories. Watson did get hurt and came back for OT. The Cornell game was very loud from start to finish. The BU game in Boston was quiet for much of the game. Hope the BU fans are quiet tonight. Go Red. Go ECAC

Cornell for Black Friday!

And, it looks like we got the poor draw of having to face the Princeton / Qpac pair in the middle of January. At least the Engineers don't have any home games during the semester break, though.

Closing up at Brown / Yale could prove to be a huge boost. We seem to have done extremely well against that pair recently.

Cornell for Black Friday!

Unless Union. That would be awfully early for Black Friday though. I imagine Coach may want to stay away from Union Black Fridays given our recent performance in "big"/rivalry games. It's also bad from a money standpoint; why mix our (arguably) biggest rivalry with free attendance? So yeah, probably Cornell.

It also looks like Brown or Clarkson for Freakout! Clarkson would also have to be senior night, so I think we would lean toward Brown, but who knows.

RPI has to face Princeton/Qpac sometime or other. Why do you see having that matchup in the middle of January as being a particularly poor draw?
