Sacred Heart??? Wow.
Sacred Heart??? Wow.
“It’s a win,” said RPI coach Seth Appert. “I wasn’t real pleased with our intensity or our physical play but it’s a win. It beats the alternative.” http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/...50e2519fd99c9390469650.txt?viewmode=fullstory
Brown and Minnesota State were the best two teams that UConn could draw to its tourney. Wow.Sacred Heart??? Wow.
Explain, I'm not following.
SA put this one is perspective pretty well. it's a win. Pure and simple. Even though we scored on the power play-I still hold my breath each time. That set up as an umbrella with only one man back by the blue line is filled with danger if a shot gets blocked-and it appears lots of them do. I never really understood that strategy. it would seem to me keeping 2 men out by the blue line not only can prevent odd man rushes, but draws two of the 4 defensive players out to you and keeps it 3 on 2 down near the goal. Love getting 6 but we will have to be a far better defensive unit next weekend and have to avoid any lulls during the game. BU and UNH don't seem to take too many shifts off and we cannot either.
a UCant fan trolling....Happy New Year! Blech.
Spot on Doc, this team is not nearly good enough for that PP set up. We'll see how this weekend goes...
First let me say that I don't like the system. The risks seem to out weigh the rewards.
However, I certainly think that our players are good enough to play the system, they just aren't patient enough. We get caught because a shot goes into a defender and bounces out to center ice for a breakout with no one back to defend.
We also tend to telegraph our passes. And that never works out well.
All that being said, I would love to go to a two men back at the points system.
I always thought part of the power play set up was to design a pattern of movement to get an odd man situation in close to the goal. The lower the number of defenders who can collapse back into the area near the crease-the less collateral protection a goalie has. I've always felt with a 5 on 4 or 5 on 3 power play the idea is to draw one or two defenders out away from the crease and set up an odd man situation in that area. Taking shots from the point is fine-but the goalie has much more reaction time to shots from 40 feet that he does from 15-20 feet. Other teams seem to get a far greater number of chances for good shots on the power play against us from closer in than we do. And you are 100% correct-we have more than enough talent. We just have to work on the system to produce more shots closer by utilizing the extra man. Just my 2¢ as usual.
Chase was remarkable with the 1 timer! IIRC, Haggs had a 1 timer from the dot (the goalies right) against Ferris. Jake had 2 oppurtunities yesterday on the PP but caught the puck first allowing the goalie to react. It's not an easy shot to master like Chase did but it's a dangerous weapon when one does. I'm baffled as to why we haven't seen it since Chase.....unless of course Haggs is the only one with the confidence with it. Note; it's a lot easier when someone like Pirri or Helfrich is putting it in your wheelhouse and Lali can. I would love to see the combo of him & Haggs master that play.......I know they can. Enough already with constant shots of Bailen being blocked out high. It was almost comical in the 2nd period when he had 3 straight blocked....BY THE SAME DEFENDER!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y63cHxYlMRw
A guy like Polacek was perfect for the right dot guy. Haggerty is perfect for the digger position. I think in the second half you might see Buebla in the RH spot also with Jake on the left.
