Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

Remember that I'm well aware of the officiating in both the ECAC and the WCHA - and by comparison, people in the WCHA have no idea how good they have it, believe me.

Removing any clouding in my head for potential bias, they certainly weren't too bad. I'd take it over Feola and Murphy any day.

With our guys getting ready to play the # 5 ranked team in the country, I'm surprised how dead this thread has been this week.

Suggested thread title: RPI 2012-2013 Part III - Now That the Non-League Games Are out of the Way...

With the way we handled ourselves against the #9 and #4 ranked teams in the country, I'm not.

I'd rather see the experience for the boys, though. Let's take it, learn from it, and build up to the next years.

A lot of very good suggestions this time. I still think that Jericho's "RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part III: There Will Be Math Involved" is the best so far.

Part III. Don't copy and paste what you have above. Otherwise, we get to laugh at you.

Wait a minute, I thought that calling it "Part II [sic]: there will be math involved" was done deliberately as a subtle joke! :)

(which meant I was laughing with him, not at him....;))

along the lines of "There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those that understand binary, and those that don't."

It crossed my mind to say that, but I couldn't type it with a straight face. :D

From Ken Schott --RPI Injury update -- wish it was better news ....

RPI injury update: Kasdorf works out; Schroeder's season could be over (updates with video)

Injured RPI freshman goalie Jason Kasdorf got a little work in prior to the team's practice Wednesday at Houston Field House. Meanwhile, the Engineers are considering a medical redshirt for sophomore forward Zach Schroeder. ....
Also: Neal (neck) coming along , Hampton (back) out, Marty O (unspecified?) is a coin flip. UGGH

EDIT: Having played 9 games, I'm not sure Schroeder qualifies for a med. redshirt. I always understood the cutoff to be 6 games??? But it seems as if Appert was indicating there might be wiggle room with this and the NCAA... dunno.

New season, same story: feels like we just went through this... What kills me is apparently Schroeder broke his wrist in the Black Friday game and then played the next day at Union. I suppose they may not have known the extent of the injury and thought it was a strain? I hope he is able to redshirt if that's the direction they decide to take.

RED: There are 10 major bones that could be broken in the wrist-2 in the lower forearm (Ulnar and Radius) and 8 smaller carpal bones. Even a hairline crack of one of the smaller bones can be problematic. In the old days when we had to rely on simple X-Rays and physical diagnosis-you could miss a non displaced hairline crack. But you would figure it out in a acouple weeks when the injury did not imporve or even got worse. In today's world-with CT Scans and MRIs you just have so much information that it is something you cannot miss the diagnosis. This tells me that the diagnosis was probably known rather quickly-but for some reason did not respond or was not totally treated. The good news-99+% of these kinds of injuries heal perfectly well and you aqre as good as new eventually (at most a couple months). With some of these you can play virtually at 100% with a simple cast or brace. The bad news-with some of these you can lose 2-4 months if the initial injury is severe enough and in this case that could be most if not all of the season. It sounds like the latter is the case here-he might be back playing by March and who knows in what kind of condition? SA if not anything else-is extremely careful with his players health. I absolutely applaud him for erring on the side of caution. in my medical experience i have just seen too many careers (sports and otherwise) ruined or altered by rushing back from injury.

If I was to guess, based on a twitter pic Zach posted, @zschroeder07: Add it to the list of scars. http://t.co/mtvFpDp, it looks like he had surgery just before Xmas on it.

If the puns thread ever gets to 999 posts, I've been saving that for # 1,000 so that I could name the second thread Really Terrible Puns Vol 10. ;)

it would also be the first post in that new thread.....:)
