RPI Engineers 2018-2019

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

RPI with another win 2-1 over Syracuse.

I watched part of the game on RPITV. RPI was outplayed by Syracuse. The difference was Selander.

It was also good to see the goals not being scored by the first line although this team does not have enough scoring.

Hey, you've written the post-game story for the last four years of RPI hockey! @TitleIXHockey actually just wrote an article about how important Selander has been to the team. I had no idea she was pushing the NCAA record for most saves in a career.

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

Where is the video?

On your other post, we do need a second goalie still unless we are going with just two for a year in order to split up the years.

Oops :o. Here's the video on the Washington Pride and interview with Blitz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVsFCdTgHLg.

You are right about the goalie situation Ralph. Although it is late in the process to find a top notch goalie they should be trying to secure a strong back-up.

There is a chance that we already have another goalie. Women's recruits don't always show up immediately by searching.

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

That article on Selander was informative. Yes, I do think she breaks the record. I also did not realize she was the Captain. She definitely is a difference maker. Emma Hicks had a goal the other night and has the ability to produce more points.

After the Clarkson game she has 3,522 saves. With the NCAA record being 3,809 and with 13 games left on RPI's schedule, she would need to average a little over 22 saves per game, assuming that she plays in all of the games. It is certainly possible. Fewer per game of course, if RPI makes the playoffs.

Can anyone imagine her NOT starting/playing every remaining game?! Any coach worth her/his salt is aware of the stats and record book and tries to help players reach milestones and break records in their Senior years especially on teams that won't be making any sort of NCAA tournament run. Can you think of how this team would have been without her for 4 years?!?! She even has one career point (an assist) which is sadly the same number of career points as several other non-goalies on the team! Hey coach, maybe encourage those players to transfer to D3 programs (where they should probably have been in the first place) and replace them with legitimate D1 talent.

The problem is to attract enough better players to come to RPI.

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

The problem is to attract enough better players to come to RPI.

That has been the problem. We have had a few who have gone on to success on pro teams but even those did not begin their college careers as top prospects (e.g. were not members of US or Cda U-18 teams). And when it comes to recruiting it is easier to attract successful players to successful teams. Some have turned their programs around in a very short time period with a couple of years of great recruiting. Cornell went from perpetual doormat to a strong contender very quickly. Ric Seeley built a strong Clarkson right out of the gate mostly with a concentrated effort to bring in top talent from across the river (Ontario), and they have just built on that initial success ever since. Seeley then went on to turn around Quinnipiac with strong recruiting. (Not that I recommend Seeley's coaching style 'though ). But turning around your recruiting success is easier said than done.

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

Huge upset over SLU today. Quinnipiac looks like they'll go 0-fer this weekend, and if Brown pulls the split with Yale, we should be in pretty good shape.

OT power play goal from North Country native Blake Orosz.

30 saves for Selander. She now needs 257 in 12 games which requires an average of fewer than 22.

3-2 OT win over SLU today, moving both teams to 5-5. Selander great again and what can you say about the late game heroics of Blake Orosz? Earlier this year she beat Yale with a goal with 28 seconds left, then dispatched QU with one second left, and now SLU 11 seconds into overtime. At the end of the season we may look back at all three of those games and all three of those goals as huge.

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

That's a big win since it was not a 1-0 win. Three goals for RPI. Parity in women's hockey!

Re: RPI Engineers 2018-2019

So that actually went decently. Unfortunately we can't rest on our laurels. The table below doesn't look too dire, but if we want to show that we actually deserve to be in the playoffs, we need to sweep Union. Let's go.

RPI KRACH (RRWP): 59.90 (0.3964)

MCTs (Mean/Median/Mode/Range):
Points - 21.70 / 22 / 22 / 11 - 34
Rank - 6.52 / 6 / 6 / 2 - 11
Playoffs - 92.1% (Home - 2.3%)
Most likely opponent - at Cornell (24.3%)

Conference Rankings:
  1. Princeton
  2. Cornell
  3. Colgate
  4. Clarkson
    —————
  5. SLU
  6. RPI
  7. Quinnipiac
  8. Harvard
    —————
    —————
  9. Yale
  10. Brown
  11. Dartmouth
  12. Union

This Weekend's Playoff Implications:

_______| W | T | L |
| | W |96%|92%|87%|
|Un| T |92%|86%|79%|

Note: The table above should be symmetrical, as my sim does not include home-ice advantage as a factor.

We lost a recruit to #26.

I am proud to announce my commitment to further my education and play D1 hockey at Union College! She committed to RPI on 3/15/17, so she was not a Vines recruit.
