RPI 2024 Off-Season: Was 2023 – 2024 Just a Bad Dream?

I had the game on while finishing up some work so I didn’t focus on it. Take my comments with a grain of salt.

It seemed RPI actually played pretty well (better than the score might indicate) against a team that seemed superior in virtually every way. I thought the line held up better than expected in pass blocking, but just couldn’t open enough holes for the running game. The QB had a few nice throws and there were a few drops, mostly when throwing into tighter coverage - seemingly because the receivers had less separation than they might have gotten against lesser competition.

The defense did fairly well with a bend but don’t break philosophy until they seemingly wore down in the second half. UW-L just seemed to have a few “better than D3”” athletes at skill positions. I thought the defensive front held up fairly well but speed and athleticism permitted the Eagles to take much greater advantage of their opportunities.

Not bad thoughts at all. I felt we stayed close enough for much longer than I expected. We were up against an over powering offense and very tight defense. Our boys never got more than a few inches without someone hanging on them while their offensive players eemed to be wide open more times than not. But overall - i think we will be giving most teams quite a bit of trouble.

Thanks. BTW, I was logged out during halftime and when I logged back in for the 2nd half YouTube indicated there were 1,400 connections. That's pretty impressive for an early season D3 game at dinner time on a Thursday night. I wouldn't be surprised if a fair number were in western Wisconsin, but it's still a fine number. RPI TV produces excellent broadcasts for a volunteer organization. Good job RPI TV.

Wisconsin LaC does not seem to broadcast a video feed of their games. Most of those tuning in probably were their fans. There was some other feed on YouTube listed for an NCAA Division III feed but I never clicked on it. I would never listen to anyone except Kurt do the RPI games unless forced to. He gives you all the information you need and keeps you up to the minute on what is going on while also throwing in some great trivia (or even minutia) about RPI sports history.
I mentioned this in another post - if we do not develop a better kicking game - both punting and field goals- it is going to cost us some wins. Not saying we need to bring back Andrew Franks (although how wonderful would that be?) but we need to have punting net us enough yards to gain some field position and we need to have that FG threat be consistent at least out to 40 yards.

In honor of Molly Hamilton and in belated honor of Arvils Bergmanis, today is 7 September 2024. There are 29 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October 2024 for the start of next season.

doc were you looking at the latest edition of Speletpuika?

No just thinking way back about my Latvian girlfriend in medical school. Cannot believe it has now been more than 55 years since graduation. My medical school class had a total of 63 students - 6 women. I was one of only 6 unmarried fellows in the class. With an entire hospital filled with many single secretaries and laboratory personnel along with an entire school of young single nursing students - life was good.

Pretty good but i think I prefer

RPI Hockey 2024-2025 -šī būs daudz labāka sezona

I hope this is correct - or perhaps I just gave the measurements of the Playmate of the Month

Not bad at all, but is the word for "sports season" or are referring only to the fall, and you are permitting us to fall apart when winter starts? :)

"Hockey Hype" gathering tonight at 6PM at HFH (formerly known as season ticket pickup party). Anyone planning to attend? I am interested to hear whether there is any news on the HFH study and recommendations..... time will tell.

For the football fans - RPI is current a 6.5 point favorite ovr Wilkes in their next game on Friday evening. After their first game, very difficult to know how they will perform. Personally I think they did as well as expected, showed a few good aspects (especially passing offense) but some glaring weaknesses (kicking, rushing offense, passing defense). Should give us a much better idea of what they bring to the table this week.

Our girls have an exhibition hockey game scheduled in about 10 days. Anyone know if there will be any sort of broadcast (video or audio stream) for this?
