I am looking forward to this season, as I do every year! I am sure we will improve! The sky is the limit. You never know what will happen. I am very hopeful. I can’t wait to watch the newcomers, as well as some of my favorite players I like to watch. I am excited to see an improvement with some new players. I am also looking forward to hearing the Pep-band. I hope they get more players to join, because they are fun to listen too, and they can get the crowd going. Bonus this year- I can drink a beer if I want it. So cheers RPI fans- Go Red! Give this team a chance, before you start trashing it!

I am also. Optimistic before every game since 1963. Not optimistic at the end of the last 2 seasons. Maybe Adam Oates can give a face off clinic when he comes for RPI Hall of Fame on September 27.

Face offs, special teams, and team commitment to defense - 3 doses, taken and stirred and we could really have something.

Need Ralph for a good translation but from what German I remember, the last post is spam.

They want people to pay them in order that their Instagram posts yield more money. Sure sounds like spam. So far they posted this 9 times on USCHO in various languages.

Thanks RB. My German is rusty but I could make out a good percentage of that post. i believe Jenny's familiarity with foreign languages tends to be more limited to words like Cartier, Boucheron, Bvlgari or Faberge!

Any news yet about a replacement for the canceled exhibition game? I hope soon we have some hockey to talk about on the thread as it has been awful quiet here!

I heard only 35 people attended the RPI Hockey Golf tourney...wow. Anybody on the thread go?
I’m not surprised. Interest in the program has been on the decline. Past 10 years have been arguably the worst in program history with one losing season after another. Dave smith does nothing to inspire fans things will get better. Dude is the worst coach RPI has ever had. I don’t think anyone cares up on the hill. I didn’t renew my season tickets this year for obvious reasons. Not one person has reached out to me from the ticket office.
Considering the fieldhouse is a morgue 90% of the games one would think they would do everything to keep the few season ticket holders?

Glad to see your interest hasn’t waned :-D

While Smith's won-lost record is the worst of any modern-era (since 1940) RPI coach, I could make a case that the guy who did the least for the program was, ironically, the one with the best won-lost record.

Rube Bjorkman in 1963-64 took what Ned Harkness had left behind and led them to an 18-8 record and a third-place finish in the NCAA tournament.

But that was Bjorkman's only season in Troy. Having decided that he would be moving on, he did virtually no recruiting for RPI, knowing that whoever he might recruit for the Engineers in those pre-transfer-portal days would never play for him. I think the next year's freshman class included John Rancourt, who practically grew up on Field House ice, and a guy from Averill Park (Bill Daniel?), but otherwise, Bjorkman did not put a whole lot into the cupboard for his successor, Garry Kearns.

After two successive years of almost no recruiting (Harkness didn't knock himself out recruiting for RPI his final year, either), Kearns recruited some very good talent in 1964-65, but those guys couldn't play varsity their freshman year. The stage was set for the infamous 3-19 season in 1965-66.

Bill Daniel was a transfer, I think from SLU. There were others with some talent who arrived in 1964 including goalie Dick Greenlaw, Butch Cavalier and Ted Bowser as well+ as a couple who flunked out.

I received a call from HFH Box Office today asking for credit card info. I asked them about the 10/5 exhibition game and they said there will be no game that day.
So, Ralph you can keep the start of the season as 10/6.

If that's true, then it's a sad state of affairs. I am not on social media, but would think there would be something posted/ photos on Twitter or FB about the outing, no? If there isn't anything, then that is telling.
